Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Cullen is actually quite powerful. He has a relatively low centre of gravity which makes it more difficult to dispossess him - especially for tall players,

I'm not sure anyone would expect that. Trippier was their player of the season.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:34 amLivramento off to Newcastle, £32m rising to £40m. What will or could it mean for trippier, would we want him back, you'd expect Livramento to jump ahead of him as 1st choice.

That will include all the conditional paymentsjedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:03 amIf we trust the figures stated then it's Zeki Amdouni for £15.5m after Euro conversion I think.
To date the one we have probably paid the most for is Chris Wood
Full fee, probably all the add ons as we played Premier League football for 5 seasons with him and £1m sell (10% on the profit) so £16m in total.
Amdouni and others have the potential to beat it but that is the most we have actually paid for a player to date
The next bunch all reasonably close are likely to be Collins, Gray, Brady and Cornet - possibly in that order (we paid a hefty sell on fee for Gray

£40m on the back of one good game, against us. Wow.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:34 amLivramento off to Newcastle, £32m rising to £40m. What will or could it mean for trippier, would we want him back, you'd expect Livramento to jump ahead of him as 1st choice.

Agreed. No idea where people get these theories from.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 10:02 amI have difficulty understanding our transfer tactics regarding so called smoke screens.
I can understand we have say several acceptable priorities for each position and therefore can have several negotiations going on at the same time , but why waste time on so called smoke screens we have no interest in signing. Surely that just wastes everybody’s time. Although I agree it does look like we have wasted a lot of time on players we don’t really want to sign at times, excluding the agent led non stories.

I think there’s a difference between actually negotiating with players/clubs/agents and feeding journalists stories to keep clubs off the scent of our true targets or to feign that we’ve got other options when negotiations over fees are stalling.
I think we do the latter quite a lot, although that’s me reading between the lines. I could be totally wrong of course.

Agreed. I've been told my someone within the club we feed stories to journos to push other deals along. Including this summer. Hence my post on the last page re smokescreens.agreenwood wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 12:24 pmI think there’s a difference between actually negotiating with players/clubs/agents and feeding journalists stories to keep clubs off the scent of our true targets or to feign that we’ve got other options when negotiations over fees are stalling.

It was Sacha Tavoloeri's appearance on From The Bee Hole End that suggested we contact multiple targets and leave deals on the table, before moving on one of them.
Two different things but both apparently part of our process this summer.

From what I've read the club probably does have several negotiations going on at once
They'll have a preferred player but they'll have alternatives so we aren't wasting the summer chasing the one player like we've done before
That people don't like this way of operating is interesting, because they probably didn't like the other way either

Still find it hard to believe that we could be signing Daramy, Ramsey, Lokonga and a LB. There has to be a few outgoings if we bring in 4 more.

I don't dispute that the Coaching may have improved, but a significant difference between the EPL and the Championship, is the amount of time the players are allowed to make that first touch/movement or just think thus improving their vision/decision making.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 10:57 pmah, so their first touch, movement and vision only looked improved because we weren't playing Man City, gotcha

Daramy and Ramsey wouldn’t need to be registered in our squad 25 so it’s not as if signing them affects squad size but you’d imagine there will still be out goings due to game time.
Personally I can only see Franchi, bastien, Costelloe and churlinov as 100% outgoings. Weghorst I think we would happily keep him but if an offer comes in that fits then he will probably go. There’s also questions as to whether obafemi will be fit enough to make the first 25 man squad

Lokonga is the one I am really keen we get.
He’s played a lot of prem games for arsenal so 100% proven, he’s a complete all round midfielder who’d fit in perfectly here, and he’s also young.
If we get him with a loan and option to buy I’d be over the moon.

It's a really minor thing but Lokonga has the number 23 at Arsenal. Amdouni has worn it for Switzerland too but he's worn 30 for Burnley in preseason.
I've a hunch it's being put to one side for Tella, having worn it for us last season and also at Southampton*. So will be sort of interesting if Lokonga takes it. Could possibly, tenuously, signify whether or not the Tella return is on.
*Although he's number 11 at Southampton this season.

Do players overly care what their number is? I see theories about numbers a lot and I’ve always wondered if players care about this stuff as much as fans.

Rashford has a tattoo with all his favourite shirt numbers.
Arfield - 37 in tribute to his teammate who passed away.
Zamorano wanted number 9 so much while at Inter, he wore 18 with a little + between the 1 and 8.
There're loads more examples.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
so, having watched the summer unfold with the incoming rumours and actual signed players, wondering lately where s all the funds coming from, I'm now putting 2 & 2 together and probably getting 5! However, given what I think many of us believe, regarding the owners philosophy with Moneyball and buying young, developing and selling, are we starting to go down a mini Chelsea route combined with using stats for high potential players? Boost the 1st team squad, few to the next level down, with several more going on loan for a season to showcase their talents, a bit like McNally.
Saw we are in for a young, 17yr old from Hibs this morning, along with a few other clubs, an One:

I don't think anyone is doubting that players have their favourite numbers, just that it wouldn't be a factor in whether they sign for a particular club. Except for the rare examples of the very top players such as Beckham and Ronaldo who have brands associated with said numbers.

Technically gifted player, quick with an easy dribble, good end product. Nowhere near as productive as Mike Trésor though who managed to produce 24 assists last season, still a reliable good winger. Target price between 10-15 million euros.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Bring him in. I feel like he's been treated unfairly at Arsenal and is keen on proving himself. Under his favourite coach he can regain his confidence and prove arsenal wrong. Lovely player to watch who already had his first PL experiences. He'll thrive in Burnley without a doubt. He would become one of the leaders here instead of being treated like a loser at Arsenal. Sure the Belgian connection lads already look up to him at he's already been established in the national team.Neil wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 3:41 pmBeen a breakthrough apparently

Would be awesome to see him link up with his old friend Tresor from Racing Genk, they got knocked out of the CL and EL this week so they could use some fresh budget. If you lay down money for Trafford and Amdouni then you have to do so for him.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
You need Cullen to bring balance in the team. He's a very unselfish guy that does his job well. He's also a good match up with Lokonga who needs a fella like him by his side, maybe in the future he could play the Guardiola role as a pivot when he gets used to the PL and bulks up a bit. At Anderlecht Kompany played Sambi as a 6, but Belgian league is a totally different level.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Yes same position as Tresor mainly on the right wing, but could play the left as well.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He played there one game against Aarhus. Maybe Kompany sees a right back in him. Could also be a possibility. He got Gomez who played central midfield and right wing positions before and turned him into an awesome LB, so it wouldn't be the first time he pulled something like that.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 6:31 pmI notice he has started every game at RB this season?
To be clear Buchanan mostly played as an attacking winger on the right.
