Hope you're right Simon.forzagranata wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 3:57 pmI don't think he is reluctant to move. I think he wants to move.
It is more likely that personal terms have not yet been agreed between BFC and Maatsen. That can be sorted.
Interesting that Sky were quoting the DT when it said a deal had been done but it's a DT journo saying he doesn't want to move.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I actually don’t really want Mattsen
And I have a feeling that if he comes and a Premier League winger or ten sail past him, when he’s out of position, like he’s not really there, then
£31.5m if that’s true may seem just a little exorbitant.
There said it!

I think the key info is "including add-ons"
It could be £10m + add ons which would be great business. We know that we are no longer mugs in this game.

Firstly - £31.5m, add ons or not, is nobody baulking at this yet and/or questioning how we have seemingly become one of the richest clubs in the Premier League overnight?!
That said - IF we can afford it (and it’s not my/our job to know our financial strength) then what a signing. We are missing him big time.
Secondly - second thoughts on coming? Could be a last minute ploy to get another 10-15k a week out of us or some such. I think Maatsen has too much respect for Kompany to let this go on all summer and get cold feet at this last moment. A bit like Tresor who clearly had his agent agitating him to get a bit of extra brass out of us (nobody will convince me otherwise) I can see this randomly being a goer in about 3 hours.

I like Maatsen, but if we’re spending that kind of money, it’d be nice to think he didn’t need convincing.

i'm flabergasted some folk aren't fussed about maatsen signing even for 30+ million. IMO he's going to be world-class, and win a lot of winners medals.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
what if the breakdown is 5 million loan fee, 20 million over 4 years plus the rest in add ons based on PL appearances, avoiding relegation and qualifying for Europe with 4 years - that makes it much more affordable. Just need to persuade himjedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 4:05 pmFirstly - £31.5m, add ons or not, is nobody baulking at this yet and/or questioning how we have seemingly become one of the richest clubs in the Premier League overnight?!

Did seem like Chelsea might be pushing the move, they publicly announced it (even though it's been reported Maatsen wants to stay)
Funny how Chelsea are bothered about FFP when the new owners have spent over 1 Billion.

But if he has too much respect for VK would he be trying it on in terms of bigger wages at this late stage, when we could easily walk away from the deal?jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 4:05 pmFirstly - £31.5m, add ons or not, is nobody baulking at this yet and/or questioning how we have seemingly become one of the richest clubs in the Premier League overnight?!

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Apparently we have options A,B,C,D etc for every position. Why not for a left back?
Find this situation increasingly odd. We are potentially going into a premier season with only 1 fit recognised left back that doesn't fit into our system anyway

Good player is Maatsen but add ins or not, that fee is ridiculous.
I may be wrong with the view that he won’t progress to a level that makes the fee worthwhile, time will tell.
I’d love him back just not at that sort of money!

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We desperately need a LB but not that desperate. £31.5m for Maatsen is seriously bonkers beyond belief and where the hell would the money come from surely only from the sale of players next year. This transfer window is becoming delusional as clearly we could have bid higher sums for other players we were linked with but didn't pursue because we thought they were too expensive. I would rather have got 2 or 3 of those than paying out ludicrous sums for Maatsen who isn't that great defensively which is why Chelsea are starting to use him NOT in the LB position.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
World class full backs can defend. Maatsen can’t. I really don’t think he is worth the money being quoted. He was great in the Championship but think he will get ripped apart defensively in the Premwillsclarets wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 4:07 pmi'm flabergasted some folk aren't fussed about maatsen signing even for 30+ million. At least we got another excellent player in our squad. Tresor and Maatsen on loan... Still waiting for the big fish to bite and see who we manage to buy in the end.

There's always an awful lot of only partially true information flying around on deadline day. I daresay that that applies to Maatsen as much as anyone else.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I do feel a lot of the interest reported over the last few days such as Sinisterra, Clarke and the like were just us covering our bases in the event of Tresor not coming through.
I am now hoping that unknown to us, there is similar activity taking place with regards to the LB. What is worrying me a little is that I don’t think it’s true to say all our dealing is being done in the dark - we’re not hearing much. Some transfers have been surprises but with many and more, we’ve heard a lot about them before the deal gets over the line.
We may have also shagged ourselves into a corner. The likes of Feyenoord will see that bid, and if we were to come knocking with a bid for Hartmann then you know what they’re gonna say.
Makes for a very exciting and interesting last few hours. I’m not sure I’d be good at the diplomatic aspect of a head of transfers style role so fair play to whoever fulfils these types of duties for clubs all around the world. I’d currently be wondering round Towneley park looking for dogs eggs, before heading down Haffners asking for a pigs head to send on to Maatsens agent on a same day delivery.

If you read between the lines a bit…
1) Chelsea trying to convince Maatsen to leave = Finalising the pay up value of his contract
2) Maatsen not keen to join Burnley = Personal terms not met, and an understanding he has most leverage in the deal…. He and his agent hold all the aces…. Maximise the return.

Agree to disagree I guess! He's 21 years old, and he has the lot. You can learn to be a better defender, you can't teach the natural ability he has. If you think of the most celebrated fullbacks in recent history, a lot of them were formidable going forward as an attacking force. Maatsen will create far more goals than he's responsible for conceding.

Not looked at sky but bbc are reporting it includes add ons, which is accurate. People are talking like 31.5m is the guaranteed fee, when it's nowhere near that.
