Bob Lord boarded up

Post by MancunianClaret » Thu May 18, 2023 11:55 am

The stand, that is. Anyone know what's being done?

Heard rumours it's new plumbing for dispensing hot bovril.

I saw it yesterday when I walked past - not the most impressive of ground improvements is it?

Pavement now closed from ticket office to club shop - the shop access is via the side door. That's all down to Town2Turf with the pavement on the other side now largely open.

The big hole that was outside the Park View recently on Harry Potts Way is now on the other side. I think it's for the anti-terrorism barriers to go in.

That’s one of the exit gates isn’t it? New measures to stop people leaving early?

My guess, and it is a guess, is that we are having new self serve turnstiles fitted so no handing card to a steward to swipe. New cards are being issued as well which may back up this idea.

Just realised it the exit door not the turnstiles. Oh well.

Maybe something to do with Town to Turf works, probably due to start on the side of the road.

I presume they are just inputting a new exit gate. The one there previously was looking very tired. I think they put a new one in further down the stand when they completed the building work above so it’s possible that they are doing the same here.

Never mind new exit gates, they could do with new entry gates so that we no longer need to have somebody sat at each turnstile to step on the release pedal

The whole look of the ground on York St/Harry Potts way really needs updating/changing. Its an eye sore from the outside.

I'm sure Pace & co thinks the same

I still can't understand why they didn't rebuild the turnstiles and extend the upper floor at the other end of the Bob Lord Stand to match where the club shop is now.

They put new turnstiles in under the new build but the safety officer at the time insisted on not having automated turnstiles.

Regards extending the upper floor? For what purpose were you thinking? Couldn’t add any further hospitality because no seats available in the stand.

At the very least, a roof above the turnstiles provides far better catering facilities, like those in place at the other end of the Bob Lord stand, especially in poor weather.

That RHS now under cover is a fabulous piece of work.

Wasn't it a Cafe planned above the LHS

Where's the smiley, MikeS ?

Bob Lord will never be "boarded up".......Turf Moor has been the venue of some great moments, treasured in the memory of thousands of fans, including me.

In it's present form the ground is proud testament to those who have administered our Club down the years and Bob Lord is at the very front of that queue.

Does anyone know how much use is made of the business hub in the Bob Lord stand, during the week?

It usually seems to be empty on a match day (people not working weekends, fair enough) but could potentially be used as a bit of a members bar - a bit nicer than than concourse and would help ease some of the queues / make a bit of extra brass.

Don't think it's the business hub any more but somebody might correct me. I was a member before it closed, but didn't renew.

Probably used as a staff canteen or something. Youth players and office staff were sometimes in there.

I drove past the other day before it was boarded. There was an industrial doors signed up van there and bloke working on the old doors. Suspect it’s just a replacement

I can confirm that the hoardings are no longer and the door is back - whether it's a new one or not I don't know.

Harry Potts Way is closing from a week on Monday for around six weeks although whoever put up the signs needs some education on Burnley FC - the signs refer to Harry Pots Way.

I did. I was walking down on the other side but it was easy to spot - will see how it all fits in with the new pavement once it's in place.
