Re: Toon v Leicester
It's a red card all day long. If the ref had given it as a red then VAR wouldn't have said 'hang on, it's only a yellow'. Both can't be right.

Nervous times for Leeds and Everton fans. Newcastle don’t want to score and has the hallmarks of a one shot one goal win for Leicester

If Leicester get a point Everton will have to win on Sun to be sure of staying up. A Leicester loss means Everton can draw.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 9:40 pmAm I missing something here? Leicester really need to win this, yet they seem to have made absolutely no attempt to…

Leicester are 2 pts behind Everton
Both Leeds and Leicester HAVE to win their final games now
A draw tonight does help a little

Sorry, I know it helps Leicester a bit but you can't make absolutely no effort to win a game till the 85 minute in a game that you really have to win

Re: Toon v Leicester
I agree....Given that Everton must be massive favourites to beat an on-the-beach Bournemouth at Goodison I cant believe Leicester were playing as if a point was a good result.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 9:40 pmAm I missing something here? Much more expansive and they'd have shipped 2-3 though.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 10:00 pmSorry, I know it helps Leicester a bit but you can't make absolutely no effort to win a game till the 85 minute in a game that you really have to win
Re: Toon v Leicester
Trippier, and Pope ( you’ll always be a Claret) they’ll be kissing the badge next, don’t blame the ,but Ashley Barnes was much more, and always be ,always a Claret.
Re: Toon v Leicester
Leicester have done themselves a favour tonight. No way could they expect to win against Newcastle. A point is useful. They look to have the easiest of Sundays matches imo, a very tense day for Everton and Leeds.

Re: Toon v Leicester
Final day permutations:
Leicester need to win, and hope Everton don't
Leeds need to win big, beat Leicester's result, and hope Everton draw; or win, beat Leicester's result, and hope Everton lose
Everton would go down if they draw and Leicester win/Leeds win big; or if they lose and both Leeds and Leicester win

Re: Toon v Leicester
It is a good result as if Leicester win, which I think they will go all out to do, it means Everton have to now win. If Leicester had gone for it and lost Everton could have played out a draw on Sun. It puts more pressure on Everton. According to the Bournemouth fans their manager has been experimenting since they were safe. I doubt he will on Sun due to the importance of it

Re: Toon v Leicester
So;
Everton win - Leicester and Leeds down regardless
Everton draw, Leicester win - Everton and Leeds down
Everton lose, leicester and leeds win - everton and leeds down
If either Leicester or Leeds fail to win, they are down regardless.
Yes?

Re: Toon v Leicester
It sounds as though the Everton squad could be down to the bare bones.
If they go a goal behind, I can see them failing under the pressure. Biggest issue is that I can’t see Leicester beating West Ham.
Wish one, is that Leeds don’t win.
Wish two is that Everton don’t win.
Wish three is that Leicester find something from somewhere to get a win. Not sure if there’s a genie out there that could deliver on that third wish!

Re: Toon v Leicester
Just turned on the analysis and was waiting to see this majestic save……doing Pope a disservice there, he practically dropped his cap on it. They want to look back on some of the saves they overlooked at the turf.
Another example of Pope suddenly becoming a good keeper now he plays for Newcastle.
Even the EG stat has just come up as 0.07

Toon back in big boys European competition for the first time in 20 years.
There's a BBC quiz on the Newcastle team back then, I was embarrassingly short on these names, a couple I couldn't recall even having got the answers given. . https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65678609

Re: Toon v Leicester
I think the reason it wasn't a red card early on is because Guimares barely touched the man. He only touched him hard enough to send him rolling on the floor - a bit harder and he would have been screaming in agony and thumping the grass. (Of course, if he'd actually have been hurt, he'd have been lying still.)
The point of red cards is that they are for being reckless, out of control, and likely to cause injury. Presumably the ref and VAR felt that because he barely touched the man, he wasn't likely to cause injury.
Cork got away with one on the same technicality. He made a sliding tackle and got booked, but many (almost all Blackburn fans and some on here too) thought he should have been sent off; he got away with it on the basis that he hadn't actually touched the man at all, which (in the ref's eyes at least) made it unlikely to cause injury.
