Well done Ben!
There were a number of posters on here who didn’t think he was good enough for the Clarets…

Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
I’ve watched a few Brentford games this season and Ben has been excellent, thoroughly deserved to be player of the season.

He’s not good enough in the system we play. He’s a fantastic defender, but he can’t play the way VK wants from his CB’s.Suratclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 12:00 amWell done Ben!

Surely there can’t have been anyone that thought he was anything but brilliant in his time with us, I can count on one hand the amount of mistakes he made in about 10 yearsSuratclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 12:00 amWell done Ben!

Ben Mee is an absolute Burnley legend, and he gets in my all time Burnley XIBurnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 6:43 amSurely there can’t have been anyone that thought he was anything but brilliant in his time with us, I can count on one hand the amount of mistakes he made in about 10 years
But he used to pretty much make at least one mistake every game until about 2 or 3 years ago
Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
But doesn't Thomas Frank supposedly play football out from the back?

Slabhead Maguire could learn from Bens’ mantra, “I’m a defender, I win the ball and give it to a footballer”.
Congrats Ben.

Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
Huge numbers here said he'd struggle in Brentford's system, too limited, too slow, too old, not a good enough passer.
He also was nominated for Player's Player of the Season and Goal of the Season so as it goes he's had an alright year.

Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
There was one prominent poster who claimed Mee wasn't that good and only did well for us because we played with 10 men behind the ball and hoofed it clear making it easy for anyone to defend ok playing that way. Repeatedly claimed Mee would be found out if he ever was part of a defence that played an expansive game.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 6:43 amSurely there can’t have been anyone that thought he was anything but brilliant in his time with us, I can count on one hand the amount of mistakes he made in about 10 years

I agree - at centre back.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 6:43 amSurely there can’t have been anyone that thought he was anything but brilliant in his time with us, I can count on one hand the amount of mistakes he made in about 10 years
He was played out of position at full back, and we didn't get the best out of him there.

Pleased for him, I was one who thought he would struggle in a side who defended with a higher line.
Sounds like he's had a new lease of life in the bright lights of London.

Well done, Ben!
Have felt a bit like a proud parent this season with ex-players performing so well. Mee, Pope, Tripps, even McNeil in these last few weeks.

Genuinely love the guy, he was a brilliant captain and representative for us - that said I'm looking forward to Benson and Zaroury sitting him on his arse next season !

I'll hold my hands up I thought he'd be a squad man down there. Had a great season fair play to him.

Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
Not only is he an excellent defender, as he has repeatedly shown for two clubs now, but immensely popular amongst fans across the country. He is also very articulate and knowledgeable and as his playing days draw to an end, I can see him becoming a top TV football pundit for SKY

I wonder if he still considers himself a left back?

Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
I think he has gone on to proven what most of us knew. He is a top player and top defender.
Think he went to the right club - a team that is hard working and as he said on one of his videos when he signed - he liked the no ****head policy that the club has a Brentford.
Pleased to see him recognised for his efforts this season.

Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
That's not what we were told on the other board by a certain trouper, he told us that Ben himself said he now considered himself a left back when other posters, myself included, were calling for him to be played at centre half, yes I'm being facetious but that little exchange sticks in my memory.

I highly doubt huge numbers said that, some did I agree and clearly they were wrong. I think most people with an ounce of football knowledge realised he would be a success at Brentford.

Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
He actually did an interview and said in it I am a left back maybe he was misquoted but 100% he said it. I remember the convo on here why it bothered you that much that you still go on about it I have no idea but for what it is worth I agreed with you at the time until I read his interview.equinox wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 4:37 pmThat's not what we were told on the other board by a certain trouper, he told us that Ben himself said he now considered himself a left back when other posters, myself included, were calling for him to be played at centre half, yes I'm being facetious but that little exchange sticks in my memory.
Whatever he was or wasn’t he turned into a very fine CH up there with Steve Bruce etc I guess as 1 of the best to not play for his country certainly in my opinion.

Tarko performed well also. Wouldn't be surprised if Mc Neil gets a few Everton fan's player of the year award, particularly if he grabs a goal on Sunday.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 8:44 amWell done, Ben!

7 PL goals this season is nothing to sniff at and he was excellent against Brighton.....
But yes Ben Mee has had a brilliant season. I thought he'd lost a little at the end for us but I guess pastures new has made all the difference.
Re: Ben Mee Player of the Season
Everybody knew he wasn't a left back, particularly when we had Ward waiting in the wings.JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 4:57 pmHe actually did an interview and said in it I am a left back maybe he was misquoted but 100% he said it.
