Cesc Fabregas retires

Post by jdrobbo » Sat Jul 01, 2023 6:09 pm

Outstanding footballer. Worth a thread I felt. On his day, he was unplayable and for many, we were able to produce some fabulous performances.

Several good performances at the Emirates against us; a great first half for Chelsea against us (including THAT pass for Schurle’s goal) and then his performance for Arsenal against us in the 1-1 draw in 2009…I would say that’s one of, if not THE best individual performances I have seen at Turf Moor, Ever!

Notable mention for his red card at Stamford Bridge when we won 2-3…it was a key moment, (cheers Cesc!).

Great career, wonderful footballer.

I've said before and will continue to say it. The best player I have ever seen live. This k it was the 1-1 draw where he dominated the game and Arsenal looked like easy winners until he got injured and it just changed the whole complexion of the game.

Great player but a disappointing footballer. Too many dives, feigning injury, whining to refs and general gamesmanship. As mentioned, his red card in our 2-3 win at SB, but through that game his petulance overshadowed his footballing skill. He had De Bruyne’s skill but played with Luis Suarez’s attitude (that might be a bit harsh 😂).

A fabulously gifted player who was nurtured brilliantly by Arsene Wenger. A shame he had to leave Arsenal to win things, but what a collection he finished with.

A fantastic footballer. Haven't given it much thought but possibly the best I've seen play against Burnley. Although I always think Alexis Sanchez was outstanding against us in one fixture at the Turf. Anyway, Fabregas. Great career. Shame he's ended it in such a dive of a place though. Como. Staying on as coach. Someone's got to live there I suppose.

When he was on form, he was unplayable.

Some seasons he only appeared up for it for half the season, but he's still rightly regarded as a great player.

Fabregas remains the best player / best performance I’ve personally seen on the Turf. His performance for Arsenal in the cup when we beat them under Coyle was ridiculous and his injury changed the match. That first time half volley weighted assist for Schurlle (spelling) for Chelsea was a joke.

The Schürlle goal for Chelsea at the turf is one of the best goals I’ve seen the opposition score - ridiculous assist from Fabregas

Wonderful player

It was in the league.
Unplayable for 30 minutes and then got injured.
We drew 1-1 and we actually had a good goal disallowed from Fletcher I think which would have given us a 2-1 victory.

The cup game was the year before. We won 2-0 I think - Kev Mac scored both ?

Great player Fabregas. One of the best midfielders to grace the PL and still find it pretty amazing that as a club Burnley are regularly playing against world class players like Fabregas

Arsenal were tearing us apart with Fabregas & Arshavin in 2009 until Fabregas was forced off with an injury.

One of the best performances I’ve seen from a player before that injury for Arsenal.

We played so well that night as well and should have won it.

He appears to have a massive erection in that third photo.

He was close to Dean Marney.

Completely agree, this is the performance that I always mention as my favourite one to have seen out of all the stars in the premier league despite it only being 30 minutes. Closely followed by Gerrard, in my opinion

Very good player. One of the best in the Premier league.

Maybe he didn't do it for long enough to be crowned the best. A bit like Peter Smeichal.

Really good player, and did it consistently against much better sides than that performance in 2009 (v a midfield which would play about 90% of its career in the championship or below).

Would Fletcher's disallowed goal have stood if we'd have had VAR? Remember it being a close one at the time. Unlucky not to win that game in the end

That ball to Schurrle is the best pass I've ever seen live, I had the perfect angle too. Loved Fabregas almost as much as Bergkamp, shame they both played for arsenal.

No that’s just his ball. 😉
