Club Mascots

Post by MoorTurf » Sun Jul 02, 2023 6:29 pm

Hi folks, does anybody have any information about the process of becoming a mascot please?
My 10yr old is desperate to get out on the pitch with the players.
From what I can tell, I’m going to have to pay £25 for him to become a ‘junior member’ before I’ve even got ‘the chance’ of the experience.
I’ve had an email today to say the mascot ‘packages’ go on sale tomorrow morning but doesn’t say anything about costs!

It seems the club are going to be making money from the kids either way.
Anyone know how much it’s likely to be?
It seems I’m going to have to pay the £25 just the get the chance to find out !

I think last season was £150 for the one where you can pick the player and includes a shirt, and £50 for the most basic one. No idea this year as they've not put the info out, we'll find out tomorrow I suppose.

It’s fairly expensive from what I remember and all clubs seem to charge for the privilege now.

I think it should be free. A prize draw or something.

Should be free, great for kids whose parents have the spare income to pay for this, but as is clear in this day and age with so many families struggling it will just alienate potential future Clarets.

So you think football fans only support teams that give them freebies and enticements then? Cannot begin to understand how such as United, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc have any fans at all then.

Personally, I reckon kids generally support the team they get taken to watch regularly by family, which their friends support, or that they can go and watch on their own. Most kids will also have their 'SKY' team they support as well, which is just as likely to be a European team as an English one nowadays.

My 2 year old grandson knows the words of quite a few Burnley songs, has a Burnley kit and says he is a Burnley fan despite never living closer to Burnley than Northamptonshire. He may have a dad, brother, sister and uncles who have all been indoctrinated into supporting the club by me over the years. His QPR supporting grandad never got a look in as I had him in newborn size Burnley apparel before he even left hospital :o

My lad was one of the player escorts (the new name for mascots) last year, for the opening home match against Luton.
We paid around £50 for the package, but had to pay the £25 Junior/Young Clarets membership, which wasn't used for anything other than this.
We turned up around an hour before kick-off, went pitchside as the players were warming up, and then the kids went to meet the players as they were coming out of the tunnel.
Our package was the "second tier" - there were some folk who had paid over £100, and got a little longer on the pitch, plus first choice of players. (My lad wanted Barnsey, but ended up with THB which was pretty cool.)

I can see why Burnley fans would like this to be free, but it was very good value for money.
Of course, you need a full, current kit as well.

(FYI - actually booking the package on the website, with the peculiar combination of Young Clarets membership and needing to apply to my son's account was one painful, complex and infuriating. Hopefully, for your sake, they fix that this time around.)

Was that probably in the days when the Junior Clarets was run independently of the club? I remember taking my nephew for the first home game of the season against Swansea in 1992.

As has been mentioned above, the have different categories now from mascot to player escort.

Late 60s early 70s had the junior clarets in gym behind Longside, think it was twice a week, then every home game somebody got picked to be mascot, only had 1 them days, nobody walked out with each player.

If anyone is expecting the prices to be similar to last season you’re in for a surprise - my son was a mascot a few seasons ago against Chelsea (when we lost 4-2) and it cost me about £350 from memory. That was under the old regime so I rather suspect it’ll be nearer the £500 mark this season!

What a shame any junior claret wanting this experience, won’t be able to get a Burnley shirt that looks the same has his favourite player is wearing. :(

I think that was when the club were running it and it was all free. Then it was run independently but they still picked a mascot for free. But when the club brought it back in house a few years ago they started charging. It's a shame in that some kids don't get a chance because of finances.

I didn't get a chance because I am too old. :D They just had one mascot when I was young, and he did every game.

You're not wrong - they used pensioners as mascots when we played Lincoln in the FA Cup back in 2017. Lincoln strode out while we had to wait for Jim Thompson at the front with Tom Heaton. I can understand why they haven't done that again.

All the packages sold out last season when I tried for an nasccit package even with. Junior Clarets membership. The Junior Clarets membership wasn’t worth it.

There is an upper age limit which is 12, I think. Once you are a teenager you can no longer be a mascot.

Yes, I understood that the £25 would only give me a chance to purchase a mascot package, but why has it been advertised that this would be on sale online at 10am and not even direct you to where you can purchase. Shambolic.

I had to Google “Burnley mascot” then it’s down at the bottom of a page saying “mascot experiences are back”
… I’ve been sat in a queue since 10am though and the wait time hasn’t changed from 3 minutes in the last 15.
Shambles.

They are staggering the dates they're available so the next batch of matches are released in September. However this batch includes city, United Chelsea and spurs so will probably be most in demand, yet we can't even access the page to buy them.

Ok guys. The link is at the bottom of this page helpfully as posted by MoorTurf.

https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/con ... edium=link

However the page is from last season so the pricing details are incorrect and have gone up to £75 or £250 depending on the package selected.

Managed to get my lad a player experience for the Chelsea game which is close to his birthday. This process was shambolic though as I’ve come to expect. Surely all Junior Members should have received an email of how/when to order this? I only found this thread by chance yesterday.

Thanks Riley. £250 up from £150 last year. £75 is steep just to walk out with a random player! Can't believe it. I'll be asking for a refund I think. How could they not give out the cost info before signing people up for £25.

Expect a very poor experience in using the website and you won't be disappointed.

For where we are in the football pyramid, it's a disgrace.

I was contemplating enrolling my 2 grandsons in the expectation of applying for them
to be mascots. It isn't going to happen now, I'm sad to say.

Yeah to be honest £75 is a little high, when you add on the £25 to become a member. However in fairness you do get two match day tickets included with that - which is a little bit useless when you have season tickets, but perhaps mum and grandma can attend.

Looks like we’ve missed out unfortunately.
All the VIP ones are gone.
Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea sold out.
It shows there are some player experience packages left for spurs but won’t let you purchase as ‘not enough tickets left’.

What a waste of time. Glad I didn’t tell him I was trying now!

Ha! Nah, glad you got sorted.
I think I was more a victim of the crap website.
I’m still sat in the ‘3 minute’ queue I joined at 10am in one of the windows.

Confirmed they have all sold out now.

Maybe if you contact the club and let them know the technical issues you encountered on their website they will be able to assist you when the next batch goes on sale. Thanks again for pointing me in the right place (which was last season’s mascot page!!!) as I would have given up otherwise.

On the subject of Junior Clarets can anyone confirm if free shirt printing is still included? I can't see it listed in the benefits. I have emailed the club but no response as yet.

Not looking for my lad to be a mascot this season as he is a bit too young and I don't fancy paying the £25 membership just for him to get a birthday card from Bertie!

Don’t think get free printing, just the points from the purchase of it

We looked at getting signing nephew as a junior claret but as he’s already a STH, other than the slim opportunity to be a mascot and receiving a birthday card there’s no other benefit that he doesn’t already have from his ST

Morning All,
Did anyone on here enter the ‘ballot’ for a chance to buy one of the mascot packages?

Apparently the club are going to email the ‘lucky’ few today who get the opportunity to purchase the packages?

Bearing in mind the shoddy comms from the club about this - I don’t suppose we’ll get an email to say we were unsuccessful so was hoping to hear from someone on here how they got on, so I can manage my son’s disappointment like after the fiasco of the first round of games !

Cheers
