I wonder how many other clubs do the same?

Im not long back from a trip to Bulgaria and the quality of the football gear out there is brilliant plus they have a lot of the new stuff. Guy in our hotel bought around 50 Newcastle tops at £15 a pop to take back for all his mates rather then them having to spend a fortunate back in the UK

People in glass houses…. Peter Noble had to close his market stall when Burnley banned all sales except from club approved retailers, who paid for the privilege and had to sell at a set price… and take a load of other official memorabilia.

To be fair we were in the forth division and in desperate need of the money, but the principle was the same. In fact if memory serves JB Sports were threatening to prosecute us as they prided themselves on being the only store that sold every league shirt, and advertised themselves on the fact. Our shirts were only on sale from the club for many years due to restrictive practice.

I think it was only last season when our shirt started to be sold from our retailers - CFS for obvious reasons, JD and Sports Direct.

Not quite right - Peter Noble was stopped from selling them. They became available only in the club shop.

Me and my mates used to spend ages chatting to Peter on his stall on a Saturday. To be fair he got plenty of sales out of us - my favourite boots remain a pair of red Mizuno I got when I left primary school!

That was the tale, fully agree…. But a shop in Accrington became agents, opposite the town hall in the centre of town suddenly became a Claret and Blue wonderland and it fitted in with what Peter had told me the week before he closed… that shirts were 2/3 of his business and he just couldn’t afford the fee to be recognised as a partner.

While buying my eldest son’s first pair of boots on his stall I mentioned that my first boots were a pair of “hand me down” Georgie Best side lace ups - he said he wore them in the league cup semi for Swindon and did so well that despite having the mickey taken he had to wear them in the final (and won)

Funny, not really been on the market much since he closed but, every time it flicks across my mind - it’s not what it used to be.

Last time I was in there it was a right mess, hardly anything open.

We got a 6x3 snooker table from Peter Noble when I was a kid. He sold all sorts!! Remember taking along a copy of the 1977 Topical Times football annual for him to sign! He was on the front cover playing against Norwich!
