Andros Townsend
Apparently a free agent and training with Burnley! Not sure about him could be a squad payer I guess.

I've had a quick look and can't see this on her but if it is then Mods can delete

Re: Andros Townsend
Already posted it on another thread but he was here two weeks ago. Not sure whether he still is but speculation would suggest so. Probably find it on the summer transfers thread.aclaretinstevenage wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 3:48 pmApparently a free agent and training with Burnley! Personally I find the thread on its own to be very useful because most of us don't have time to trawl through the Summer Transfer rumours thread which seems to be less about potential transfers and more about the usual posters continually posting to try and prove some minor point or other to demonstrate how in the know they are about VKs current thinking.

Bit harsh. You don't maintain a career at that level without being any good at all!

He’s not a bad player, but he’s overhyped with a meh end product
Re: Andros Townsend
He's here to get advice from Benson on how to cut inside and launch rockets into the top corner.

Or maybe another Bardsley, Pieters or Barton who were all really good.

Re: Andros Townsend
Would shock me , just doesn't seem a VK signing in the new direction the club is going.
Not to say I wouldn't mind an experienced pro but preferably not one with a long injury history wanting to break into a media role

Decent squad players for sure. Barton certainly added something, the other 2 were professional but little more reallyNottsClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 6:20 pmOr maybe another Bardsley, Pieters or Barton who were all really good.

Had Pieters not got a season ending injury in the draw at Palace when we were in the midst of a good run I think we would have possibly stayed up
He was automatic first choice at LB and playing very well

Andros Andros Townsend is an excellent player with a good football brain, nowadays. I wish him well wherever that may be. Claret or otherwise.

Re: Andros Townsend
If he's training with us and VK decides to take it further.... I'd be happy.
To me, if there's one thing about Kompany that seems strikingly obvious... he doesn't pay much attention to past history or any kind of sentiment. I'm pretty convinced by his decision making so far. Under the calm and measured persona I'm absolutely sure he's got that ruthless streak that is a key ingredient of successful high level Managers.

Apparently he hasn't played a single game for two seasons
I know he's been injured but that sounds pretty bad for a player towards the end of his career

Played 21 PL games in 21/22. But yeah, nothing last season. You'd have to have a serious think about his fitness I'd say before considering offering him a contractLancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 9:49 pmApparently he hasn't played a single game for two seasons

Just think he's not good enough to take that sort of risk on, especially as we have experience in the squad already

That Bournemouth game though (sigh)GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 10:00 pmNo he wasn't.
He had that purple patch in the last season under Dyche but overall he wasn't worth signing, I said as much when he arrived and nothing changed my mind during his two spells with us.

Re: Andros Townsend
People complained when we signed relegated Tom Heaton, people moaned when we signed 2 guys for peanuts from Charlton and people moaned when we got a free transfer from Huddersfield. I'll let the managers decide, in the last 12 years or so they've made pretty good decisions for us.

They've also signed Danny Drinkwater, Peter Crouch, Jon Walters and Dale Stephens. I don't think it's unreasonable to be skeptical about signing a player over 30 who hasn't played for a year because of injury.
Let's see if we sign him and how he plays if we do.

Won’t do the lads any harm in training playing with someone who’s been in the prem for as long as he has
