Re: Wout is back
Let the past be the past, he could play a key role for us this season im sure of it. There’s defiantly a player in there just needs to start scoring. You don’t play as many games as he did for Man Utd and be a bad player.
He’s the best striker we have and the one I’d be starting against Man City.
Welcome back WW.

absolute rock star this lad.
Re: Wout is back
Shame, a real kick in the teeth for the lads who did stay with us for last season.

If Brownhill struggles to hold down a place in the team I can see Wout becoming team captain before the season is out

Everyone deserves a second chance, get the ball to his feet and he will thrive, technically great on the ball, yes he should be better with his head than he is but him playing in a positive team I think we will see a different Wout

The club wouldn’t make a point of putting that tweet out if they didn’t think he intended to stay, it’s a very intentional tweet

Re: Wout is back
Its going to be fun either way
What I like best about discussions on him is the desire to make up stuff about him based on him having a verbal agreement to leave if we got relegated and a ten second altercation in a Wales v Holland match
Come on lads, don't keep us all waiting

Welcome back Weggie.
Re: Wout is back
I just wonder how excited I’d be to see him rock up if he’d never played for Burnley before and all I knew about him was his World Cup cameo and his half season at United. I’m not sure I’d see it as a great signing.

You mean scoring TWO goals in a WORLD CUP semi final against the eventual winner ?

Re: Wout is back
Its not a fair comparison though
Its not a new signing, its a player returning from a year on loan in which he played half a season for a team that finished third in the premier league

Best wait and see, before commenting .
There are similarities between WW and a guy called Bob Peteers a Belgian who played for Millwall. Although limited skill set he became a cult hero at the New Den.

Re: Wout is back
I’m trying to take the emotion and history out of it. He had a great 30 minutes at the World Cup then a decidedly underwhelming few months at United (essentially because of those 30 minutes). Personally I’m hoping he’s only back to get himself fit in lieu of a move.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 11:25 amIts not a fair comparison though

Re: Wout is back
I'm not sure if he'll be a great fit for us with the way we play, but I'm confident Kompany will know after working with him on the training ground. If he thinks he can do a job then that's good enough for me.

Doesn’t look any more pleased to back than we are to see him, but presumably if the club is releasing a video we’re intending to keep him so let’s hope he discovers some form.

Wouldn't be suprised if he ends up at Everton.
Re: Wout is back
I wouldn’t read anything into that video. He looks as pleased as anyone would to have a camera and mic shoved in your face before you’ve even entered the building on your first day back.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 11:33 amDoesn’t look any more pleased to back than we are to see him, but presumably if the club is releasing a video we’re intending to keep him so let’s hope he discovers some form.

Re: Wout is back
He played a lot more times for United than someone who was underwhelming would have done (I'm not saying he was great btw, because he wasn't, but he played a role) and he was signed because of what he'd previously and the United management team recognised thatmartin_p wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 11:29 amI’m trying to take the emotion and history out of it. He might well be only here because he has to be, and we are trying to sell him, but if he isn't, then he's going to play a role for us because our manager thinks he can

Re: Wout is back
Whatever transpires in the end, Wout's a good player and he could add something to our first 11 in certain situations.
It's a situation where the best thing we can do for now is trust the judgment of those in charge.

Re: Wout is back
Genuinely never not backed any of our players.
I am however really struggling with Wout though.
Got to trust the club has a plan for him and VK will decide best how to integrate him into the squad etc.
Think the club will need to do some positive media with him though if they don't intend to flog him and see him as an integral part of the season ahead.

Be interesting to see how this pans out.
Has there been another player in the last 20 years that has split the fan base and caused as much of a stir as Wout?

Re: Wout is back
Can’t lie - I really like Wout
He’s a typical Dutchman - blunt and just tells it as it is.
He ran his socks off for us when playing which is a pretty good barometer to measure how much someone cares… if he’s up for it and VK wants him then I’d hope we all would get behind him playing for Burnley this season

Re: Wout is back
And if that’s the case then fine. He’ll get my full support if he pulls on the shirt again, I’ve never wanted to see any of our players fail and never will. But personally, at this moment in time, I don’t see what he offers us. There’s also some bridge building to be done in the dressing room, although that works both ways (accepting of course that footballers are perfectly capable of having spats on the pitch then going for a pint afterwards and I may be worrying over nothing).Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 11:37 amHe played a lot more times for United than someone who was underwhelming would have done (I'm not saying he was great btw, because he wasn't, but he played a role) and he was signed because of what he'd previously and the United management team recognised that

I'm not to sure about this but we will see how it pans out and trust Vincent.
Re: Wout is back
VK won’t play him if he is crap and he will potentially be a big improvement on our current strikers.

Not sure he fits the system or is what we need at all. If he does stay ( which I doubt) I’ll get behind him.
Re: Wout is back
I think that's a strange view imo. I'd argue that the majority of our fan base would be creaming themselves if we were linked with a striker that had just played half a season for United and was a Dutch international who had scored a couple at the World Cup. I appreciate you said you are taking the emotions out of it but it doesn't seem like you are.

Re: Wout is back
I’m convinced he will suit the way VK wants us to play. All this “centre forward” talk is sooooo last century stuff. I’m assuming people watched us last season??? We have NO need for an out and out centre forward. I can almost hear it now.. “he should get 20+ a season and if he doesn’t he’s crap”, the Twatter driven “he’s a bad apple and Connor fell out with him” and of course “he can’t score with his head” when he misses one of the three headed chances he’s likely to get all season - this lad isn't Chris Wood ya know, we don’t play like that anymore.
We have need of a technically good forward player who can bring others into the game effectively. He matches that requirement.
VK says he’s the man, then he’s the man.
And it’s ok to have your doubts and even have a chunter on here, but please don’t let it spill over to the stadium. Get behind him ffs, he currently plays for Burnley.

Re: Wout is back
Maybe 10-15 years ago, but just having ‘played for United’ is not the draw to us it once would have been. For a start United are not the team they once were, where to get a first team place you had to be one of the best in Europe. Plus we’re not as far behind them as we once were (although I accept we’re still a long way behind them). Just look at it from the opposite direction, could you ever have conceived Man United would want a player on loan from Burnley?boyyanno wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 12:08 pmI think that's a strange view imo.
