Transfer deadline day

Post by Clive 1960 » Mon Aug 28, 2023 5:26 am

Right deadline day is this week, how many of the first team squad do you think will leave and what about any incoming transfers. What are your thoughts 🤔

Try to loan a goalscorer that can hold a ball. Zirkzee or Batshuayi or Onuachu or something. A guy like Jay Rod but that actually does score with his eyes closed. Amdouni and Foster are good but I don't really feel like they are dangerous enough. Foster does have the physicality but I'm missing something with him. Like a dribble and a shot at goal, which Amdouni does have but he lacks the physicality to win headers or hold a ball. A dangerous striker would allow us to play balls deep on the striker like Aston Villa did a few times. This causes confusion with the opponents who's putting pressure on the ball and near options to play towards. I don't see Foster or Amdouni receive the ball there and do something good with it.

If we are really going to play in this system without fullbacks we might need another central defender or a 6 that can play in both defense and midfield.

Bakayoko and or Tresor would be lovely. So we don't have to fall back on Koleosho and Larsen who are definitely decent, but not good enough to start in the premier league at the moment. Redmond also didn't look very promising. Gudmondsson is too slow and doesn't have the skills to go past a player. We need something better there, also Benson was exposed defensively playing with the breaks on. So all jokes aside it's not enough at the moment to face quality teams like most are in the PL.

After the last 2 games Taylor would be the last person I’d want to leave, even if we do get another LB in

But it’s obvious that even as the only natural LB in the squad, he’s not going to feature in VK plans

Left back
Centre midfielder
Striker
Winger

Important we bring in all four of those and if being greedy, an extra centre midfielder on top.

Tresor, a left back and a striker in.

Be surprised if it’s just Taylor and Bastien who leave. Think there will be a few surprises no way can we afford to carry this amount of squad players.

I suspect Taylor, Brownhill and Bastien to leave.

With a new CM, LB and striker coming in.

If he can get another left winger I’m sure he will try.

I think the signs are there for Taylor-not even in the squad with only one recognised full back in the starting 11. A new centre half who has played little football of late was preferred to him. Yes we know he has never let us down but is now less likely to play than Lowton was under VK. I hear Bastian is likely to go, and we should try to loan out Cork who would be a yellow card waiting to happen the PL. If Brownhill is stalling on a contract he should be sold as there is interest. I am unsure about Jay and would keep him, since as he showed yesterday he is better than anyone we have at finding space, and useful as a squad player. JBG can go too if we can get him off the wage bill.

Hopefully that allows a few loans to come in at this late stage with a Marney/Barton type CDM, a left back and a goal poacher

I'll heave a sigh of relief if Benson, Muric and Cullen are all still with us the day after. No inside knowledge, just a dread that's been with me for weeks.

Cullen and Benson have just signed new deals. Can't see them leaving. Hope Muric stays, he should be starting.

We lack physicality in the middle and up front. We need a striker who can hold the ball and has an eye for goal, we have plenty of skilful tricky players to provide the chances we need an alternative to Foster. We definitely need a tough midfielder who can win those 50/50 balls. I think that could be it as I'm not convinced he wants a LB wuth Delcroix coming in and playing 3 at the back.

Hoping to God we get some experience in who VK actually has confidence in and will play regularly. We need a LB and a CDM and they need to be leaders who can talk and stop heads going down. No more 18-20 year olds learning on the job. I'd go for Targett from Newcastle and someone like Freuler from Forest. Both ought to be available and both brings bags of experience.

As for outgoings, I expect Bastien and Taylor to leave, with a few others out on loan.

Whatever happens we have to get a left back in. A striker with physicality about them would be a bonus.

We had a cutting edge last season that tore defences apart … was that because we were in the championship or because we had a different team

I think Matsen harwood bellis and tella were all very good and we are worse without them...I think talk of top 10 finish was and is daft and saying we will be okay when looking at the first 11 even is optimistic...I think we will get better as we go along and we might just stay up...I would get left back, central midfielder and striker ...out may be Rodriguez and Brownhill...I would be picking Taylor with what we have but I would like to see some money back ...I would have preferred to have got some money for McNally and Wout

I think we could have played through Weghurst if he had been given a Chance bug agree that this was not possible

The first all those 'fast' players we had in the Championship are by EPL standards just 'reasonably quick'

I would like to see an experienced striker come in, a tough combatitive midfielder and left sided defender. Hopefully we will get some decent loans in as well.

Josh Brownhill may go which disappoints me if it happens.
Bastien, Churlinov and Taylor probably sold and 3 or 4 loans out.

Got to say, given the success that Andros Townsend had with us in pre season and his Prem experience we should be looking to reopen negotiations?
