Cole Palmer
Joins Chelsea for £42 million
What a strange move, 21 year old huge potential and a City fan.
Surprised City have let him go but Peps not stupid he must know he’s not as good as people say he’s going to be ?
Some people suggested we sign him aswell

Re: Cole Palmer
You'd think having seen countless English talent go to Chelsea to rot in their reserves, some of these guys would learn by now.

Re: Cole Palmer
Any other team and you would say at £42.5 million he would be a starter. Does that leave the door open for Maatsen? I think he has been playing left wing'ish this season.

Re: Cole Palmer
I honestly do not know why any emerging English talent would sign for Chelsea. They sit them on the bench, loan them out, control their lives and ultimately sign a foreign international for their position.*
Usual disclaimers for the odd few.

Re: Cole Palmer
If he has been promised 1st team playing time by Poch (known for developing youth) then that is probably something that can't be offered by Pep with Haaland and Alverez delivering as they are who are only 23 years of age themselves.
£42m probably has the British (and Chelsea) premium attached but I sense this move probably is because the player knows he needs to be somewhere he can get 1st team game time.
The £42m price tag is probably also the complete opposite of what you think Pep feels about him - thats how highly he rates him to let him go.

Re: Cole Palmer
If Pep’s prepared to let him go to Chelsea, they must be paying way over his valuation of him.
Re: Cole Palmer
Mentioned in the transfer thread but the Athletic reported today a deal with Palmer coming on loan to us was all set up and ready to go last month… until they sold Mahrez and wanted him to hold on.ClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:43 amJoins Chelsea for £42 million

Re: Cole Palmer
Amazing that we were linked with the loan of a player who has now gone for that sort of money.
It tells me that Pep has sussed out that he doesn't think he's ever going to be good enough to be a regular for Man City. Even so, it's beyond belief that they have got that much for him.

Their spending this summer must be knocking on half a billion quids worth.
Re: Cole Palmer
Played less than 500 minutes of Premier League football.
Insane money.

Re: Cole Palmer
Then feels like Palmer has had enough being on the sidelines at City and wanted to go. More likely to get game time at a club willing to buy you for big money than one you came through the ranks of and perhaps think it's still too soon to be first teamer. A boost up the pecking order.
The dynamic in the league between the top teams is really interesting at the moment. New owners at Chelsea, desperate to make their mark and sign their players (sign anyone for that matter). Means they are more open to selling players that traditionally they would never consider selling to a top rival.
Mount Chelsea to Utd
Kovacic Chelsea to City
Havertz Chelsea to Arsenal
Rumours of Spurs going in for Gallagher now.

Re: Cole Palmer
I think he's a superb player. But, by comparison, he isn't as good as Foden was at that age. Not even close. But i'm sure he will play for England, and be a regular starter for a top 6 club. So it's probably not too far off a fair price, just a couple of years too early
