Mindset for season ahead
Mindset for season ahead
An idea. We all adopt a mindset as follows:
1. On paper expect no points from all 20 games with teams expected now to be top ten.
2. On paper expect average two points per game from the rest. 36 points gives us good chance of staying up.
3. Celebrate any points we get from 1 to boost the points we occasionally won’t get towards 2, understanding that on grass results will inevitably not = on paper points.
So if we lose today ( expecting Spurs to be top ten at end of season) please chill out!

Re: Mindset for season ahead
I broadly agree with this mentality. In my case I'm not expecting any points until the end of October by which time the squad will have gelled and we'll be through a very tough set of games. However the games from the end of October look to be winnable for a while. We're already showing signs in small periods in the game where we look good and it's improving with every game. Our first game we forced the best club team in the world to go long in the second half. In the second game at the start of the second half we dominated for twenty minutes. On Wednesday we dominated possession and there were some 'sweet' moves from our attack. Today against Spurs I'm not expecting a result but I think we'll be better again. However both of our main strikers have now broke their duck and some of the new boys are fitting in well so who knows!! Even the top ten are going to have off days.

Re: Mindset for season ahead
Completely agree with both posts. This was my position as soon as the fixtures came out. Forest away was my first point though.
I have seen all three fixtures so far and feel that you can clearly see the top ten clubs are physically stronger and faster in mind and body. Forest were our level.
I am extremely positive over the course of 38 games we will have enough.
Stay with the team, get behind them and be a SUPPORTER. It will all come good

Enjoy the football and see points earned as a bonus rather than a necessity. I just love going on the Turf and watching Burnley. I prefer it when we play attacking football which is what I’m hoping we’ll get with Kompany this year.

Expecting to get beat in more than half of our games seems like an exceptionally joyless way to experience football.

Respect your opinion. I just like to have what I believe to be realistic expectations which then lead to exceptional joy when experiencing wins and tempers the feelings following any losses against tough opposition.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 10:15 amExpecting to get beat in more than half of our games seems like an exceptionally joyless way to experience football.

I expect the mindset from the OP leads to a lot of cuckolding
Does it, op?

Unfortunately no team has ever survived by losing every match to teams in the top half of the table.

Re: Mindset for season ahead
Tbh you need to factor in historical results as well. City always smash us, Villa seem to play well at the turf....Spurs less so.
I think we have a chance today, the crowd need to be "at it" a bit more tbh as the home atmosphere has been dreadful so far.

Conceding very early on in both games no doubt had a large part to play in dictating the atmosphere.

Re: Mindset for season ahead
I think it has to be to not get too critical in these early stages and expect that we will be in a position of catch up after the initial round of games.
Be confident that we will get results against the lesser teams.
Enjoy the improvement in the team as it gels.
Celebrate another season in the Premier League at the end of the season.
