Can you name and recognise the present burnley squad?
I have gone on the turf nearly 60 yr and had a s/t for about 35 year . I have to admit I hadn't a clue who was who for a lot of the team v spurs but I am surrounded by good fans who have been round me since the new stands were built and most of them were lost on a lot of our squad!

I’m not sure what you’re asking? Are you asking whether I can see and remember names? If so, yes!
What I can’t do is remember squad numbers. Not interested in them in the slightest.

It took me long enough last season to remember all the new names and who they belonged to.
It's like groundhog day again this season.

I agree this is the first time in my lifetime I probably couldn’t name you the full squad, or remember their names.
Some of the players I’d didn’t even know we signed.

Give it 3 games and it’ll sink in who’s who.
4 games and you’ll have an opinion on whose rubbish and whose our first 100 million pound player.

Recognise a quite a few by sight but if they didn’t have shirt numbers and names I’d be struggling if the full squad lined up .Maybe get about 12/14 of em at best .

Lol. I'll hand my season ticket back then. No chance I'm naming everyone in a squad picture. I've simply got better things to do with my brain cells. Maybe I should care more.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 2:02 pmDon’t understand how any fan of any club can not know their players

It would help if they put the team up on the scoreboard from time to time. Was constantly done in previous seasons but seems to have stopped this season for some unknown reason.

It’s simple we’re used to Taylor, Gray, Reid & Jones123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 2:02 pmDon’t understand how any fan of any club can not know their players
Not Zaroury, Amdouni, Koleosho & Al Dakhil.

Before many of the new lads have even kicked a ball for us some people will have already decided on who's rubbish and who it is VITAL to be playing and how Vinnie just doesn't understand football when he picks the team or makes changes.Winstonswhite wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 1:14 pmGive it 3 games and it’ll sink in who’s who.

Recognised Brownhill and the new lad we bought in January, Foster; also Gudmundsson, Cullen. The left back looked familiar. When Beyer was subbed I recognised him but seemed to be a slower version
Re: Be honest.
Difficult at start of game, but checking team list and seeing them play it becomes easier.

I’ll never understand why they feel the need to show the game on the screen of a game we are watching live, especially as it has a delay on itClaretmisterg wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 3:51 pmIt would help if they put the team up on the scoreboard from time to time. Which half wouldn't you recognise and would it make a difference if you saw them walking down a street in Burnley?steve1264b wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 4:07 pmIm pretty confident i wouldnt recognise half of them if they were walking down a street in manchester!

Re: Be honest.
It’s not the most surprising observation. How many new players have joined over the last 2 seasons? ( whether they’re still here or not)
Re: Be honest.
Probably more chance seeing half our squad in Manchester away from game day, than burnley.....and it's the young single half, most of who live there.

Re: Be honest.
So far in could they have a point, of course plenty of time for things to change, reminding people now how wrong they are probably isn't the best time wait & see UTC.
Re: Be honest.
You can choose to believe whatever you like, but I find it hard to believe that anyone thinks that 15,000 people can all go down a list of 30+ names and not get any wrong. Maybe we should have an UpTheClarets quiz! (I know I wouldn't win.)123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 9:09 pmAgain I don’t believe a season ticket holder can’t name every player in the squad

I struggle to remember the name of our left back
Re: Be honest.
Because I can't think of any club that has had such an influx of players like we have had over the last year.In addition to that ,they are overseas players with names we are unfamiliar with. Most of the supporters have never seen or heard of these players. At this moment I could not name or recognise the full squad123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 2:02 pmDon’t understand how any fan of any club can not know their players

Re: Be honest.
I love the club with a passion like everyone here,ST holders or not and when I was young I could have told you names, positions, heights, weights etc but now I've no chance. There is just too much other important stuff to cram into my overloaded brain instead. Or maybe I'm just getting old...
Re: Be honest.
There was probably only 14 in the squad then, not 30 odd, far easier to rememberBigAlClaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 8:54 amI love the club with a passion like everyone here,ST holders or not and when I was young I could have told you names, positions, heights, weights etc but now I've no chance. There is just too much other important stuff to cram into my overloaded brain instead. Re: Be honest.
I get what the OP is saying, tbh I could probably walk past a few of our newer players in the street these days and not have a clue.

Could def do with putting the teams on the big screen,i struggle to read the names of the newbies,i didnt have a clue who our defender was at number 44 v Villa until i asked someone at ht,even the people around me didnt know who he was either
Re: Be honest.
Takes time to get acquainted. I had no idea who half the team were that started against Huddersfield either, but soon got to know them.
But times have definitely changed. Not only could I still give you the team line up of Burnley from the 70s I could also name you the typical starting 11 of many of the top teams back then.

Same here Tufty but I doubt we brought so many new players in back then, there are players I had high hopes from last season that I still haven't seen, c j egan- Riley for instance!
Re: Be honest.
Just type in Burnley FC squad on the internet and it's all there quite simple.

“Splellings”
Re: Be honest.
What about someone like Brun Larsen who signed over the summer and barely played? Not everyone spends their lives on social media or watching highlights clips. I honestly don't think I'd realise if I walked past him in the street.

That’s one player. OP took the time to talk about “half the squad”. That’s about 15 players he says he couldn’t name or recognise.

Re: Be honest.
This is a very strange thread.
If anyone is keen enough they will have watched the introductory videos and from that would be able to recognise the new players.
Some don't choose to do this: it's a matter of choice.
No need for antipathy.

Re: Be honest.
I'm the same you wouldn't recognise him from Adam, I think there's a massive assumption that people spend substantial amounts of time watching social media & highlight clips when some people are just clearly turning up on a match day & watching a player from afar & even then you aren't taking into account that people shave & grow beards & the same applies to the hair, you can facially change the appearance just by doing that & if you aren't really familiar with any said player from the start it's even more difficult.

No. I've decided for ANOTHER season to just take a few weeks before I can watch a game and get into it properly.
This nonsense international break after less than a handful of games really ***** up the start of the season - abandon it! It's been making the start of football seasons (particularly the PL) something I don't watch until after it's gone.

When posters put ‘we are used to names like cork, Reid, brownhill and Taylor’ it’s just strange it’s not like the likes of
Foster, Beyer, berge, benson or any others are hard to remember. You don’t have to be a die hard fan to name players in the squad
