Good this. With the Muslim players we have and the great content we put out during last Ramadan, the club is in a great position to be a leader on inclusivity for Muslims in football.

Strangely, they published that article earlier this morning and then removed it for over an hour before republishing.
Agree with Loyalclaret, it's welcome news. He's also right on the use of the & in the article.

Re: Clarets sign Muslim Athlete Charter
I'm a bit dubious about the tenth article that says "Muslim athletes will be given space to express their views on their faith without judgement. As with all comments and views, Muslim athletes must whenever possible discuss any public statements in advance with the organisation."
There are many aspects of Muslim views (just as with all other religions) that shouldn't be accepted without judgement. For example, Muslim views on homosexuality were well publicised during the World Cup and shouldn't be accepted without question.
Everything else seems more or less non-controversial - unless a lady footballer demands to play wearing a full hijab!

Excellent news. Really impressed by the club's stated ambition on diversity and inclusion.
Re: Clarets sign Muslim Athlete Charter
I don’t think i’m being pedantic at all, they’re two different things. You can not judge a person for following a religion and still disagree what they’re saying. At a very base level, being an atheist, I disagree with many things all religions say, the main one being the existence on a higher being. That doesn’t mean I judge any of them for being religious.

Besides, I’m not sure dsr’s interpretation of that statement is correct anyway (plus it has the additional backstop of having to be cleared by the player’s club anyway, so the scenario won’t arise).martin_p wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 2:38 pmI don’t think i’m being pedantic at all, they’re two different things. Agree with you almost 100%. Lady footballers do wear sports hijabs at international level. It’s not that different to wearing a protective head cover la Cech in terms of its actual impact on the game.dsr wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 11:40 amI'm a bit dubious about the tenth article that says "Muslim athletes will be given space to express their views on their faith without judgement. Life is a lot easier and less tiresome if you just acknowledge something for what it is, or for what it’s aiming to achieve, and then carry on with the rest of your day.

While it’s clearly a box ticking exercise, I should like to think the club are fully open to all faiths without needed to shout about it . I’ve certainly seen a few more Asian faces on the turf the last season or 2 ,and you’d hope they’d come on without a second thought .
It’s a pity more young Asian lads don’t take up football more seriously ,as I’ve only really known the Bolton grass roots leagues have anything even approaching a passing representation even from the “ all Asian areas “

Re: Clarets sign Muslim Athlete Charter
What some aims to achieve or purports to aim to achieve isn't always the same thing.
I really don't see the purpose of this charter given that religious beliefs are already protected in UK law.
This thread demonstrates the unintended consequences - it's dividing people and potentially sharpening sectarianism. This is the exact opposite of what it purports to achieve.
Then there's the question of whether initiatives like this create a victim mentality? What are the potential long term issues if a large section of society is constantly told they are victims and that the only way to prevent themselves from being directly discriminated against is via such charters? Is it healthy to nurture a victim status in a large ethnic or religious minority within a society? Will it help or hinder us from building a cohesive society?
There are many other questions around this and other similar schemes.
But mainly I don't see what useful purpose it serves. The UK has some of the most rigorous and fair equality legislation in the world and religious beliefs are already covered.

Manningham all stars as well but won't feature in the Pendle charity league more likely craven. Lot's of Asians just genuinely aren't interested in football more cricket, there are the barriers to breakthrough a lack of interest.

I would imagine that the club have signed up to this charter in order to obtain a finacial grant or similar.
Very much doubt they have done it out of the goodness of their hearts.

I think that the club should be getting as far away from this sort of stuff as possible in all honesty.
Religion should be a personal thing and definitely not something intertwined with a business.
Being ‘inclusive’ with anything that by its very nature is ‘exclusive’ is the definition of a contradiction.
Some real hypocrisy going on when one minute it’s rainbow laces and the next it’s a safe haven to ‘express their views on the faith without judgement’
Anyone remember this?

A simple mission statement about the clubs values and philosophy is more than sufficient, imo.

I’ll no doubt get flamed for this but I think to actively participate in a religion(any religion) that inherently excludes or discriminates against certain groups/individuals based on their identity or non-belief is problematic and warrants scrutiny.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 11:56 pmIt isn't hypocrisy if one Muslim is homophobic and other Muslims just exist
If someone isn't prejudiced against the LGBTQ+ or Atheist community, for instance, I find it challenging to reconcile how they can align with a belief system that, in doctrine, “condemns homosexuality/ non-believers to eternal punishment."
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but that’s essentially what people are endorsing - I don’t see why we should have to be tolerant to intolerance.

Re: Clarets sign Muslim Athlete Charter
Football is being loaded with more and more baggage, it is becoming the go to platform for gaining maximum publicity.
Going to Football is starting to feel like when going out on holiday and every restaurant and bar has someone on the street canvassing you for business, or the lines of people on the strip in Vegas trying to shove a flyer in your hand promoting prostitution each time you walk past.
I don't want there to be a time when we're having to wade through a field of pledges and gestures before we can get to the Football.
'Sport For All' used to be the mantra, what's difficult to understand about that?
Or is that now going to be robbed and turned into the next promotional campaign aimed at supporters: 'Sport For Allah'?
