Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
It's more luck and poor finishing from Newcastle that have kept this at 2-0
A few good saved from Trafford but they've generally been ones he shouldn't have to be making.

This is of course spot on.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:46 pmI can’t say we have defended well. It should be at least 4-0 but for two excellent saves from Trafford. We have created a couple of decent openings but our profligacy in front of goal is one of our biggest issues.
Newcastle are a good side and losing is no disgrace. It’s the manner of it. We have been so naive, so careless and haphazard in midfield and defence. It’s easy to say ‘Saudi billionaires, Champions League etc etc’ but we have bloodied loads of noses of teams far better than this over the years at this level. I had hope today, I certainly thought if we played like we did against United we’d give them a good game. We simply haven’t been in the game after the first ten minutes.

We aren't at Newcastle's level yet, true. No one us suggesting we've been unlucky today. But let's not pretend some fans are rather enjoying the negativity and are exaggerating our predicament given our opponents.
Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
The Top Clarets have spoken
I don’t think anyone expects a win or expects us to dominate or make them adapt to our playing style rather than vice versa.
What I don’t think is unreasonable to expect:
Someone playing it safe and choosing one of at least two safe backwards passes instead of trying to turn his man 40 yards from goal, especially not when the ball is loose as a result of a turnover and the defence being out of shape, away from home at 0-0 against an inform side.
Not continually launching highballs to our 5’8 slip of a winger and expecting results against massive meaty Dan Burn
A center back with enough in his locker to start in the Premier League to just stand his man up after a mistake.
To get in amongst the Newcastle players a little bit between the minutes 25-70 whilst they were bullying us.
It’s a bad performance, it’s ok to call it as such and all that that can be attributable to us, not the strength of the opposition.

So how have Luton won a game then?Turftalker wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:47 pmAm I wrong though? The critics seem to be ignoring the opposition we face, the age of our team etc. I don't see why some people watch us, if they are always so negative.

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
If you take the extremely small sample size and make literal statements such as lots of goals conceded and not many scored you are correct, but to say we aren’t good enough to play premier league football would be out of context and unfair without a bigger sample size, particularly as to decide if we are at Premier league level you need to compare us to all 19 other teams not just 5 of the top 6-8 and 1 mid to bottom half team.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:48 pmYou can find excuses for anything if you look hard enough.
It’s not inaccurate to say we have struggled in the league so far. We don’t score goals and we concede a lot. Right now it’s not wrong to say we don’t look PL quality.
That doesn’t mean we won’t. But right now we look miles off it. Let’s be honest if it wasn’t for Trafford making some top quality saves this should have been another 4-5 Nil loss

But we can't afford to lose against any of the bottom sides. They are now must win games, starting on Tuesday.Foshiznik wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:51 pmIf you take the extremely small sample size and make literal statements such as lots of goals conceded and not many scored you are correct, but to say we aren’t good enough to play premier league football would be out of context and unfair without a bigger sample size, particularly as to decide if we are at Premier league level you need to compare us to all 19 other teams not just 5 of the top 6-8 and 1 mid to bottom half team.

I get it mate, and I’m not saying this squad hasn’t a hope or anything like that - this game has been a real tough one though.
My biggest concern is how Kompany keeps their heads up going into games against teams we have to beat. Luton looks a huge game and I have concerns the make up of this new team may lack a bit of character and bottle needed for such a fight, and indeed the wider relegation battle itself.
Foster will make a difference but that midfield and defence gives me kittens at the moment.

A bit of realism
If you went through the fixtures before season kicked off I have us 1 point behind where I thought the results would go ,which was a draw at home v Villa but having seen them this season I probably wouldn’t have gone with a draw against them lol
We are IMO unfortunate not to be in front with the disallowed goal at Forest

Just because we are playing good teams doesn’t mean fans aren’t allowed to call our basic mistakes, you can lose to the big teams like we did against united playing well then there’s this today, we have been given the absolute runaround

Re: Clarets Vs Newcastle
To be fair, I would genuinely be interested to hear what the more negative feeling fans had/do expect from us so far this season? It’s not a dig, but in terms of points I’m not surprised given the opposition played. The only thing I expected better was our defence being split open nearly every attack against spurs and villa

Well that's pretty obvious. Still doesn't detract from the usual pathetic whinging.
And in any case, who would you expect us get points against...
Man city, A villa, spurs, Man Utd and Newcastle ??
We've had an unbelievably difficult start.
6 games in and most on here are throwing the towel in

In what sense is it nonsense? Last season we had a group of posters who went OTT with negativity early ob. Same happening again now. Fair critique is fine, but my, some overly negative comments today.

A couple of people will have your head for saying it but he was finished at this level 3 years ago.
Brun Larsen's played central in his career, he's no striker but I'd play him there over Jay and make a backup striker a priority even if it means recalling the black sheep Weghorst. Amdouni is a good player but not a striker either and we desperately need a second one in.

Honestly, the opposition we’ve played is the only thing keeping me positive. If we perform like we have against the likes of Luton and others around us then I too will be concerned. It’s the hope that kills us eh?jedi_master wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:53 pmI get it mate, and I’m not saying this squad hasn’t a hope or anything like that - this game has been a real tough one though.

Ok I get your point, but from the teams we have played and our performances to date. Can you honestly say we look premier league quality?Foshiznik wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:51 pmIf you take the extremely small sample size and make literal statements such as lots of goals conceded and not many scored you are correct, but to say we aren’t good enough to play premier league football would be out of context and unfair without a bigger sample size, particularly as to decide if we are at Premier league level you need to compare us to all 19 other teams not just 5 of the top 6-8 and 1 mid to bottom half team.
This all may look better if we get a good win Tuesday night. But I am actually going to start worrying about VKs future if we lose against Luton.

There are still positives, but let's be honest we create so many of our own problems.

The facts remain we have played one team who will finish outside the top 7 this season.
There’s not been a tougher start by any other team.

There are, I am convinced, PL teams out there that dont have our talent, but very strong rear guard units. Characterised by Wolves,Luton and Palace winning today and both grinding out results.Tough learning curve for us
