**** me. Enough of the hot takes. We’re 6 games in and he was unavailable for half of them. He may be injured.

If we lose tonight questions will be asked about Zaroury and his lack of playing time .. He was an outstanding performer for us last season and he isn’t getting anywhere near the first 11 ..: if we win nothing will be said

Re: Zaroury
it's bizarre to me too. I can't understand putting Jay on the bench for any reason other than everyone else is injured he offers nothing anymore and never looks likely to score. Amdouni isn't a striker but I'd put him there over Jay. Same with Brun Larsen, hell, Zaroury or mr utility Gudmundsson. Would much rather see Zaroury on the bench even if he ends up playing out of position.

Bagged twice away at Bournemouth, ran the show West Brom at home & Norwich away - tons more good performances, bit of a myth that he turned to pot in all honesty.

Re: Zaroury
I really rate Zaroury, thought he was one of our best players last season. Playing devils advocate, for such a dominant force last season his output was actually quite poor, 7 goals and 5 assists. Perhaps VK thinks he needs starting players to have a better output (possibly why he’s at least started Benson)CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:19 amPlenty tbh

Surely he was just injured/ill last night.
VK couldn’t speak highly enough of him after Salford.

12 attacking returns from the wing in 34 apps isn’t bad at all.
Grealish similar numbers in his last Championship season.

I get your point, but he ranked 44th in goals scored and 36th in assists in the championship last year.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:49 amMate he was literally hugging the touchline all game stretching the field.

For our main winger in such an attacking outfit I don’t think that’s a particularly great output.
I suspect that could be the reason VK hasn’t started him

The point was he was a vital cog for the best team in the division on the wing. That’s it.

Re: Zaroury
Maddison didn’t get an assist for their first goal at the weekend but it would be difficult to argue the goal wasn’t down to him.
Statistics are all well and good but your eyes work even better. Zaroury was brilliant for us last season. There’s no need to play “devil’s adbocate”….we only have room for one of these on this board !!

Re: Zaroury
Goals and assists are a great way to get an overview of a player you don't know much about but if you need to see them to form an opinion of someone who you've seen play about 40 times it's indicative of a problem tbh.
Assume he was injured because otherwise there's no way he shouldn't be on the bench. Difficult to see his path into the team atm but it'll be a real shame if we don't find a way to give him a decent amount of football. Not just because he's good but because we need to turn a profit on players like him and one good Championship season followed by nothing isn't the way to do it.

I honestly believe it’s got to be because of his output in the final third. I can’t think of any other reason

I doubt he was available last night.

Came on in the 1st game, sent off and missed 3 games. Then came on as a sub 1st game back from suspension, an unused sub against Man Utd and played the full game against Salford.
Last night was the 1st time this season he as been available and wasn't in the squad, he may have been unwell, he may have a knock or he may have been left out. To claim he isn't close to the 1st team just isn't true.

Time will tell why he is not getting more time (he actually only missed two games this season due to suspension). I am surprised he hasn’t started a game this season though, as I said earlier I thought he was arguably one of our best last season.

But Koleosho has only 1 assist and 0 goals in 7 gamesNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 9:14 amI know what you’re saying but there has got to be a reason he’s not getting close to the team.

In 7 league games last season, Zaroury would have had 1 assist and 1 goal by now
Although Koleosho has, in fairness, contributed to 20% of our goals this season
Zaroury only contributed to 18% of the league goals last season
But he didn't start quite a few games
But with Zaroury last season we were scoring about 2/game
But it was in the Championship
Just looking at the numbers is meaningless without context
For what it's worth, I think Zaroury is special, and we need to get him in the team. He doesn't have Koleosho's pace. But I think he out-does him in all other departments

Last season definitely but I didn't know a great deal about most the signings so I do what I always do in these situations and trust the manager who works with all the players each day.

Re: Zaroury
How can ‘near to the first team” mean starting ?
Unless I’m missing something when you start you are in the first team !
Re: Zaroury
He might be getting 5 minutes towards the end of games we’ve already lost but that’s hardly a real opportunity in his natural favoured position. He came on against Forest on the right hand side initially and was playing central for five minutes against Newcastle.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 9:22 amCame on in the 1st game, sent off and missed 3 games. Re: Zaroury
I thought our main business model was to now sell players for a decent profit?
Regardless of the rights and wrongs of whether a player should be picked or not, we certainly aren't going to be making decent profits on players who spend more times on the sidelines than on the pitch, especially with the number of wingers on our books.

Don't disagree but my comments are in reply to a claim he was nowhere near the team.

Re: Zaroury
This concerns me a little. Especially after the praise he got after Salford
Re: Zaroury
Not surprised really - we were playing Luton. Given their style of play, I suspect VK decided to "protect" him and save him for less "robust" opposition while playing a more "defensive" line up.
It's a squad game.
