Leighton James Headed Goal

Post by Hipper » Mon Oct 16, 2023 10:19 am

Did our Mr James ever head a goal for Burnley?

I ask because looking a this weekends Big Match re-run he did exactly that for QPR against Ipswich. A young Paul MacGee also scored two for QPR and was interviewed and came across well.

Meanwhile they also showed Bolton vs Blackpool. Willie Morgan and future Claret Neil Whatmore were playing for Bolton.

To the best of my knowledge, only two of Leighton James' 81 goals for Burnley were headers, and both were away from Turf Moor.

I remember the goal at Wolves - James was superb that day and I think he scored a penalty as well. Unfortunately Steve Kindon had a great game for Wolves and also scored a couple.

Just watching it now, future loanee Martin Busby also playing for QPR.

Looking forward to next week’s episode which has highlights of our 2-1 win over Spurs. Think Spurs were top of the 2nd Division at the time but we were on a great run of form that had seen us drag our way towards mid table having spent a lot of the first half of the season bottom.
