Positives.
Trying to be positive, it’s hard but it’s all we have.
- Berge looked genuinely good in that holding midfield role (kudos to ClaretSpice)
- Delcroix looks good and should start at LCB
- Muric can play those progressive passes against better opposition
- This was a cup game - still plenty to play for in the league

I thought Berge looked really handy.
I actually thought Vitinho was our best attacking outlet
Tresor clearly has ability, but tactically something isn’t right with him

Muric, tonight proved he is our number one by some distance. I'm trying hard to be patient with VK but if Trafford starts at the weekend I'll be questioning him like others already are.

Agree berge is a must,
I'm happy with muric int pegs.
Though redmond looked OK, needs game time though.
Same with larrsson
No new injuries.
No red cards
I didnt get a ticket.

Would you bring Chaz into LCB and Delcroix LB ?
Can't play AAD again, it's like a car crash at the moment for him

Re: Positives.
Though toothless up top and crap at defending (both pretty crucial I realise!), we at least, generally, looked more like ourselves in terms of on the ball - Berge looked v good and I think if you can get Beyer, Foster and maybe Cork into this team, it has a bit more about it.
Muric has to remain number one, due to the above. Both are conceding, but we're in a rough patch and I think Traff needs taking out of it.

Re: Positives.
I can’t see how you see Muric as number one , no presence in the six yard box , he’s a huge unit but doesn’t use it , also he flapped a couple of times.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:31 pmMuric, tonight proved he is our number one by some distance. I don’t think Tresor is suited out wide. He’d be in rotation with Amdouni for me.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:29 pmI thought Berge looked really handy.

Vitinho as the best attacking outlet? In the sense he had the full right hand side to go at with Tresor coming inside?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:29 pmI thought Berge looked really handy.

Shame that 9/10 he either turned back or lost the ball.

I just don’t see an argument for one which can’t be applied to the other.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:31 pmMuric, tonight proved he is our number one by some distance. Trafford concedes lots against the cream of the PL - The argument is to change him because ‘we can’t get any worse’ than Muric concedes three, despite doing little wrong.
Muric is better passing - We stick him in and have one shot on goal. I also appreciated his kick straight to Pickford at one point, although I did have a chuckle thinking I’m not sure Trafford can kick it that far.
Tonight has offered little conclusion in the Muric v Trafford debate but has certainly shown that changing the GK is merely rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Re: Positives.
I think vitinho when fit plays alright though he has trouble linking up with the players ahead of him. He does do his job and when Roberts came in he looked even worse.
A good left and right back. A good defensive midfielder and a dangerous striker would give this team a makeover.

Re: Positives.
- VK has surely seen enough tonight in Redmond, JBL, Muric and Delcroix for them to be given a go at the weekend.
- Berge was really good.
- Tresor had his best game for us so far.
- Minds beginning to get focussed I think on the prospects of Cullen, O’Shea and Vitinho at this level ahead of January. I don’t include Al-Dakhil as frankly I think he’s just done for confidence - he’s still a player I have a lot of faith in.

Re: Positives.
Berge played well, Del Croix looked decent, and Muric’s far quicker, crisper passing set up a couple of promising attacks. That might give us something to build on if VK will put him in the team, but overall we still look miles away from being competitive.

Redmond? Tresor? I thought both were gash tonight. We didn’t have a shot, they created nothing between them.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:45 pm- VK has surely seen enough tonight in Redmond, JBL, Muric and Delcroix for them to be given a go at the weekend.

Re: Positives.
Against Man City that was the worst we will play this season once we gel.
Our expected goals were 0.03.
Add another winger or 2 and we should start creating more chances.

Re: Positives.
Very happy with Tresor, Delcroix, Muric, Redmond and Berge tonight. I say that because all have had their right to start questioned in recent weeks.
Burnley fans moaning about how hard it is to score against Dyche once he gets his nose in front would be the peak of hypocrisy, so I won’t go there. I’ll just say their defending was exceptional and from 2-0 the match was over, prior to that we were good.

Vitinho was dreadful again.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:29 pmI actually thought Vitinho was our best attacking outlet
He saw plenty of the ball in good areas but the move generally broke down because of his lack of quality/pace/ability. Our ball retention was let down by his play - he often gave the ball away with poor passing.
A terribly overrated footballer and a huge weak link whenever he plays.

Re: Positives.
Vitinho cost us the second goal, AGAIN. We may as well just boot it into our own net at the start and give them the free Vitinho goal.
Re: Positives.
If Berge can carry on in that vein, we might have sorted a part of the defensive midfield issues.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:27 pmTrying to be positive, it’s hard but it’s all we have.

If so, I’ll be the first to admit that I was wrong with not seeing him as a holder. As you say, kudos to ClaretSpice.
Plenty other problems to resolve but that’s a step in the right direction.

Re: Positives.
I thought he was poor, he’s nowhere near good enough at this level, has no idea where to go with the ball.
I felt the same last season though, he’s an ok utility player but I don’t see any real strength he has.

Muric’s passing was so much better and a Redmond showed glimpses of being able to look after the ball but didn’t threaten. JBL, though, did nothing. I’m not sure where you get your opinion of him from? Did I miss something?
And Tresor…..what did he do well tonight? Beat his man? Put a good corner in? Play some incisive passes? Create some openings? Close down his opponent with great energy? Look remotely interested?
Or none of the above?

Heard at the game he was out for a while with mental health issues again, hope it's not true

Re: Positives.
A lot of what Tresor tried did not come off, granted. I personally felt he was involved in the game for the entirety of it though and did not hide. One of my biggest criticisms of him in his performances before today were simply that he looked uninterested and faded fast. At the very least I saw effort today.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 11:05 pmMuric’s passing was so much better and a Redmond showed glimpses of being able to look after the ball but didn’t threaten. JBL in the first half I felt did very well down the left and created some good opportunities at the byline with his link ups with Redmond.
I may well be clutching at straws, but what else can we do!

Re: Positives.
We all see different things. I thought Redmond was awful, and Tresor was all fancy tricks before inevitably giving the ball away. I’m sure a lot of our tricky little wingers looked great in the Belgium league, but if Tresor was its player of the year, it’s clearly a pretty poor standard. Too many of our players are not fast enough, strong enough or streetwise enough to cut it in this league.
