I've read it twice, and still don't know why they sent him back
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I used to think that if any player who'd appeared in the first team for a top side must be quite good.
Then we signed Lee Roche and Richard Eckersley from Man U.....

Re: January transfer window rumours.
If the Roberts rumours are true, then we must have someone lined up.
If he goes, we have 1 RB, 1 LB, 3 fit CBs (1 of which is out of favour, and one who had barely played a game)
We'd need a RB and LB as a minimum I'd say

Some Leeds fans were saying Spence was laziest player they've had.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Delcroix hasn't played enough at centre half to be judged but the games he's played centre half he's done better than Beyer. Al Dakhil is on a par with Beyer.
O'Shea has been head and shoulders above Beyer defensively

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Agreed, well bar AAD who really struggled in his appearances bar United. Though was left hung out to dry a bit by VK.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Delcroix has alot more experience than Al Dakhil though. It's normal for young players to have ups and downs. No doubt Al Dakhil will become a great player. He's one of the fastest we have and has a good mentality. Delcroix has to reach his normal level and shake the stage fright off of him soon. Otherwise AD will pass him by again.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 5:55 pmAgreed, well bar AAD who really struggled in his appearances bar United. Though was left hung out to dry a bit by VK.
His second half against villa he started coaching more. Opening his mouth. Fighting for the ball. That's the Delcroix we need to see. He can actually become a good pair up with O'Shea and Taylor. Hard working humble guys that want to do their job. On the ball he should do more. Playing out from the back was always his strength, he has a good technique, so far I haven't seen much of it though.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
You're right he looked absolutely shell shocked to even be on the pitch initially when he came on against Villa.Anthonini wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 6:35 pmDelcroix has alot more experience than Al Dakhil though. Should players at this level really be getting stage fright?
Hes playing for Burnley not Man Utd, it doesnt say a lot for his mentality if hes struggling to come in to a run of the mill game.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I like Al Dakhil, a lot. Not bashing him at all I think he’s got all the tools required - just need to see more physicality and more of a ‘defend first’ approach to it. Sticking his head in there, not letting the ball bounce etc.Anthonini wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 6:35 pmDelcroix has alot more experience than Al Dakhil though. Agreed on Delcroix another that seems to have been scapegoated somewhat. Think he has some tools to be successful but needs minutes - probably why I want to see him and O’Shea continue their partnership tonight.

I said I’d play Dara right back when he was having a poor time in the middle.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
When Spence was at Middlesbrough he was loaned to Forest. Warnock was his manager (at Boro) and said that he (Spence) could either play in the Premier League or non league. Depending on Spences attitude.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Utd (and other big clubs) have been doing that for years with players they know aren’t good enough. Their teams are so strong they can live with giving a leg iron a few games in the first team just to get some money in for them. They are basically stealing money from smaller clubs who can ill afford it….

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Jaime Holland used to throw up on the pitch before every game with nerves. He’s gone from playing at a level he’s developed into to being bought and placed in a league of mega stars… give the lad a bit of time it’s like a shop assistant moving from Argos to Harrods, it was very unlikely it will come overnight for several of our team. That is the reason so many resisted handwringing early season. I for one don’t expect to see many lambs to the slaughter performances from here; they are growing as a team.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 6:40 pmYou're right he looked absolutely shell shocked to even be on the pitch initially when he came on against Villa.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Young players from established teams is always tricky, Mee and Trips as good examples of players who shone albeit it took time (I remember Mee's best position being heavily debated in his early tenure with us).
I think we had Whittingham early on who didn't do well but he went on to be a fantastic Championship player. Some younger players need a couple of seasons before they come good which is why the big teams are happy for them to get that experience elsewhere with none of the downside. They can either sell at a profit or have a much better player. Finding the young player who is able to thrive when young (at a high level) is the jackpot.

Whittingham

Ramsey tbc

O Kane was a United youngster too but he went to Everton initially (for around £800k from memory) and then we signed him from Everton I think. He was one oF THE worst players I have ever seen pull on a burnley shirt !!
On the plus side we signed Dwight from there.
Tbh it’s quite a hard subject to think of as we don’t seem to have signed many youngsters up until recently. And even when we were signing them i find it hard to remember now in a lot of the cases who we signed them from. If they come from a big club like United, Chelsea etc you tend to remember them more as the expectation they will be decent will be higher (or if used to be)

Yes, the Whittaker one interests me having seen him score a good number of goals playing for a poor Championship side.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 7:53 pmPlayers in form. Szmodics ( hattrick today) and at a club with no money and Morgan Whittaker another goal today.
Doubt he would be able to step up to the prem yet, but he could be just what we need next season back in the Championship.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I would also avoid Clarke for that money (may be good in time at this level, so there is a certain price that is value but not £15m+).CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:08 pmWatched a bit of Sunderland against Newcastle today -

It shows how our signings some ridicule would look at the level below - personally I beleve Tresor, Amdouni, Odobert, Koleosho are all better players than Clarke at this point in time. Some established PL players don’t score for months (Maupay etc) so we have to bear that in mind when our players miss a chance. Left wing we’re sorted for, and arguably number 10 unless we can find a brilliant loan for someone who is proven in this league.
So if there is a real need up front I would say it is right wing in the Townsend style (!!) or a new Wood / Vokes style player to have as a plan B because we lack that with Jay ageing. Right back remains my top priority though.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I find the Alan Lee inclusion a little disingenuous, he had a decent career after he left us with Rotherham, Ipswich and Crystal Palace, and Peter Whittingham was very unfortunate with a bad injury just as his star was on the rise. For me both these players needed more time than we could afford to give them.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 9:03 amIs there any club we have a worse record of signing promising youngsters from than Villa?

No I think the point is very much the same: it was not that they were bad players just never given the time they needed to come good, Alan Lee was improving and I remember thinking ‘too soon’ when we binned him. Whittingham was only a two month loan if memory serves.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
The point was about our record of signing players from villa. Neither of them worked out, whatever the reason, whilst they were with us. What they did after is irrelevant. Agreed though, I thought there was a decent player in both of them whilst they were here, Lee moreso than Whittingham. Neither was great for us though.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 11:03 amNo I think the point is very much the same: it was not that they were bad players just never given the time they needed to come good, Alan Lee was improving and I remember thinking ‘too soon’ when we binned him.
