I don’t disagree with most of the comments made by posters re playing Beyer at right back or that he has played in that position previously for other clubs and his country. But I still don’t see why Kompany would start to play him at right back when he has shown zero inclination to do so up until now.

For the same reason that once upon a time, Dyche started playing Ben Mee at centre back having shown zero inclination do so previously?Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 12:33 pmI don’t disagree with most of the comments made by posters re playing Beyer at right back or that he has played in that position previously for other clubs and his country. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Honestly cannot understand the Beyer blamers, for me he's only been off his game due to a weak partner beside him this season. We've conceded far more goals down our right hand side than our left this season afaik. He's still our best defender.

so was Dan AgyeiNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 7:51 amHe’s listed as 6ft on Chelsea’s own website.
It’s more about his build. He’s a big strong unit.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I’m not in the camp of people who say that he’s been poor, but I think it’s fair to say that he’s taking time to adapt to the increased pace, physicality and nouse that he faces in the Premier League.
As you say, he perhaps hasn’t been helped by his partner on occasions and we’ve suffered from too many periods with different centre halves. We were also ridiculously open, defensively, at the start of the season.
Playing him at right back might not be a bad solution all around, particularly considering our obvious shortcomings in that position.
It will give him some time to develop his understanding of the league and give us some additional height at the back. Whether or not he’s good enough at right back remains to be seen, but worth a try I’d suggest, particularly as it’s a position he is used to playing.
As with most of our players, he has plenty of time on his side to iron out any faults in his game.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Beyer at right back would definitely improve us defensively, but I'm not sure he's got the mobility and stamina to play that role in this set up.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I'm not opposed to playing Beyer at right back, it's an area we need to strengthen - however, as he's our best CB I fail to see moving him being a good option at all. We'd be better putting O'Shea or AAD (Who both play right side) at right-back and keeping our best CB in his best position. If we sign someone who plays left-side CB to fill in for Beyer, then personally I'd still rather push Beyer to RCB and use someone else at RB. Just my opinion.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 1:13 pmI’m not in the camp of people who say that he’s been poor, but I think it’s fair to say that he’s taking time to adapt to the increased pace, physicality and nouse that he faces in the Premier League.

Hate to be that guy, but Fofana is an absolute beast on Football Manager
Re: Fofana
Tbf it is better posting separately as it takes far too long to find any rumours on that thread. I find with any thread that goes over 1 page that it’s pretty pointless following it.TonbridgeClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 7:58 amSorry, should have posted on January transfers thread. Interesting that it is made clear that there is no option to buy. Looks like we could be bitten by the same issue as Maatsen, Tella, THB...

Re: Fofana
I'd suggest that any player due to land here is more important than a 'transfer rumours' thread.
I'd prefer a separate one, I haven't got time to trawl multi page rumour threads.

I dunno, a few pages on Charlie Taylor and whether we ever really replaced John Deary really complements the transfer gossip.dougcollins wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:11 pmI'd suggest that any player due to land here is more important than a 'transfer rumours' thread.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
anything that helps us progress is good, we can't afford to go and spend silly money given our position. It makes perfect sense to have relationships with the bigger clubs, we could be back to 5 loan players again next season.....burnley007 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:09 pmInteresting that it is made clear that there is no option to buy. Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think given our position that doesn’t really matter if he scores ten goals between now and the end of the season to keep us up. We will thank Chelsea and get a big summer to invest in another strikerburnley007 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:09 pmInteresting that it is made clear that there is no option to buy. Wonder what made him choose us, (obviously VK would be the main reason, but I wonder who he spoke to?)

True, but could end up again with the awkward situation of haggling with Chelsea over a price AGAIN!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:27 pmI think given our position that doesn’t really matter if he scores ten goals between now and the end of the season to keep us up. Personally I’m not a fan of loanees over developing our own players even if it means going down. I’d rather we give them the experience, but appreciate that the board definitely won’t feel the same.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:27 pmI think given our position that doesn’t really matter if he scores ten goals between now and the end of the season to keep us up. That said, I’ve seen nothing to suggest in his numbers that he gets 10 goals for us between now & the end of the season.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Sevilla wanted Fofana on loan but needed to wait for Chelsea to cancel another loan move or sell one of the seven players they have filling their limited loan spots.burnley007 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:34 pmWonder what made him choose us, (obviously VK would be the main reason, but I wonder who he spoke to?)
Either way, let's hope the young lad hits the ground running and can make a difference for us

Obviously the club don’t see much in the reserves/youth teams who they think are at this level at the moment.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:40 pmPersonally I’m not a fan of loanees over developing our own players even if it means going down. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Tella scored just 2 goals in 36 games for Southampton, and only 1 goal in 6 games in the Bundesliga this year.
Different surroundings can change a player - that's how I'd see it. I think he stands a good chance.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Im still curious about what happened there. I dont believe that he wasnt good enough but it somehow seemed to stay under wraps annoyingly.Hipper wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:44 pmhttps://www.teamtalk.com/chelsea/blues- ... -its-place

Re: January transfer window rumours.
******** stats. Tella has spent the season coming on for the last 10mins, when he got on. That doesn’t mean he’s been poor they have better players ahead of him as their league position shows.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Thats my point - stats don't tell a full story.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 3:15 pm******** stats. Tella has spent the season coming on for the last 10mins, when he got on. That doesn’t mean he’s been poor they have better players ahead of him as their league position shows.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Calum Chambers been told he can leave Villa. Worth a shout at RB?
Re: January transfer window rumours.
If we are not close to a CB
Villa have told Calum Chambers he can leave this month
Steady but not spectacular, and has also played as a holding midfielder in the past

Our summer transfer window was based on stats

Maatsen only joined them this week, publicly at least.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 2:53 pmThe agent probably had a lot to do with, given what we’ve done for Maatsens career.
Other notable Epic Sports clients, Soumaïla Coulibaly, Tomás Araújo & Sardar Azmoun. All been linked with BFC in the media in the last handful of transfer windows.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Chambers is an upgrade in every centre back we have imo.
Fofana - lots of promise but he has had a pretty disappointing half season at Union who themselves have had a shocker, will offer some pace and physicality but he isn’t (for me) going to score 6-8 goals and keep us up.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
In January, no one that represents any value, the Werner signing for spurs is very much an outlier in that sense given he doesn’t fit what RBL wish to do at this moment.
The reality is this player should have been signed in the summer, we went into the season with a then unproven Foster, a well past it Rodriguez and an injured Obafemi, at this stage you take a gamble on someone hoping a change of environment yields a change in form (as we are with Fofana) or pay top top dollar for proven talent.

Would not be surprised to see Calum Chambers at Luton replacing their Capt

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Spoke with a couple of Chelsea fans at walking football session this afternoon. They describe Fofana as "erratic." However, 21 year old, aiming to prove his worth in a Premier League team, I'm sure he will add to BFC squad.
