This is very sad. He could be out for a very long time - who knows? but the key thing is his mental health and not football. Here's to Lyle's recovery and best wishes to him and his family.

I think the biggest step is admitting that you are struggling.
Hopefully he will make a full and healthy recovery and we'll see that lush smile on the Turf sooner rather than later. x

Some things are more important than football, and this is certainly one. Hope he gets back on an even keel and honestly, if he decides that means hanging up his boots if that is what he needs to do, we need to support that.

I hope it wasn't linked to feeling pressure from a new healthy contract, or from feeling like fans are relying on him too much.
Let's just hope he's ok.

It must be difficult for the lad. Settling into a new team, new country, new climate, new culture and fans with high expectations. No wonder he's having one or two issues mentally. Good luck to him.

Re: Lyle Foster illness
Very best wishes and my advice to anyone is that sometimes success can be as big a mental pressure as failure. We don’t know if his illness relates to his football, nor do we have a right to, but we do know he was in the form of his life and that brings its own pressures.
He is a diamond and a credit to himself and his family.

Wishing Lyle and his family the very best and I hope his treatment can help him recover. He has so much to offer and to watch him banging in a few goals in the future would be brilliant.
Re: Lyle Foster illness
An opportunity for me to shamelessly promote Andy’s Man Club. A mental health group which meets on Mondays 7-9 at various centres all across the country. New ones are springing up all over and indeed I will be at a brand new one starting at Old Trafford Cricket Stadium this Monday. If you want someone to listen and empathise without judgement then it is worth checking them out.

Totally agree, it's mainly a very young squad and too many get hammered by fans much more so on twitter be also occurs on here.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 3:43 pmJust to add, I hope that people might just lay off the rest of the team a little bit reading this. We’re all behind you Lyle!
The positives are that he will have all the help in the world.
Stark reminder (something I’ve been a bit guilty of) with stuff about our players. Never abused them outright but it’s something that needs to stop - especially on matchday.

Re: Lyle Foster illness
We love you Lyle, you'll get through this.
Look how much better he came back last time, if that's anything to go by he'll be Messi this time.
Dealt with depression for way too much of my life and it really is a constant battle, sometimes hits you at the weirdest times, sometimes the good times inexplicably get you worst of all, and sometimes the things that normally kick you in the teeth can instead galvanise you (but by no means always). Horrible ******* condition, but it's great that the club are rallying round him and providing support to him, hopefully it's what he needs to get through this patch ASAP and 100% healthy.

Re: Lyle Foster illness
Such a shame for anyone who goes through this. Hope he makes a recovery .
I for one was ignorant to mental health and almost refused to admit that it was a thing . Just disregarding it almost. As I opened my eyes and matured I’ve seen many people of whom I care about deteriorate/struggle with this and in some cases it consumed them in to extremely scary circumstances. Only last year my partner opened up to me and it terrified me. I knew of her struggles but had no idea of the extent it had reached. On the outside she seemed perfectly fine, on the inside it was a completely different story .
Please do not hesitate to talk.
People care, even the ones you don’t know.
This place can be a safe haven if we allow it to be.
The smallest things can help.
We can help each other.
To Lyle and anyone else suffering , you’re not alone . We do this together . UTC

Re: Lyle Foster illness
His absence leaves a massive hole in the squad and one that we will struggle to fill - his performances this season have been one of few real positives.
Ultimately though, this about more than football and Lyle’s wellbeing has to take priority.
Some may find it strange that a footballer, with all the trappings that it brings, has much to feel down or depressed about. Forgetting that mental illness can hit anyone.
Moving to a new country, being away from your family, the weight of expectation; it could be any number of things that are causing him to feel the way he does.
Credit to him for allowing a statement to be released. Steps like this might not only help Lyle but give others the courage to come forward, if they are going through difficult times.
It’s great to hear that he has taken the hard step of asking for help. Hopefully he is now in the best of hands and has all of the support that he needs to come through this and get back to where he belongs - on the field scoring goals and winning matches.
A massive loss for Burnley but his recovery is the most important thing right now.
Best wishes, Lyle.

It’s such sad news.
It does make the decision to announce his new contract the day before Bournemouth game for him to then he out with his illness a little strange. They maybe could of left the new contract details for a while

I'll admit my initial split-second reaction was 'oh s**t, we're screwed', but you're absolutely right in that his recovery as Lyle the human-being is the most important thing, Lyle the footballer can wait.DCWat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 4:04 pmHis absence leaves a massive hole in the squad and one that we will struggle to fill - his performances this season have been one of few real positives.

Re: Lyle Foster illness
That is sad news for him and family but a big big blow to the club at a time when the lad is needed desperately
I am sure we all wish him a speedy recovery and pleased he is getting good care and one assumes opened up
Brave man and we need more like him
This kind of news always brings a tear as I reflect how things may have turned out had my son opened up
Still very painful seven years on
Far too many sufferers bottle it away and the first inkling of a problem is the last one
Get well soon Lyle and you will get well

From experience mental heath issues pose a very lonely place with that feeling you are never going to recover.I sincerely hope he has got the best possible mental health support and counselling. If you believe in the counsellor then you can start believing you will recover. This combined to the obvious love our fans have for him provide two of the best remedies for a successful return.I hope the hunt for an additional striker now intensifies

Echo most of the above statements and all the best to Lyle.
Put’s football into perspective, and hopefully a sign for some to be very careful in venting their frustration at our boys when things aren’t going well.
Only those directly involved with the real and the players know what’s going on in their personal lives.
Let’s respect this and get behind the lads no matter what.
Courage to you Lyle and all others in the same predicament
