Everton docked 10 points
Deducted 10 points but still not bottom, that's how bad we've started
Really though 10 points this season is the only ruling after cheating for years, what an absolute farce the premier league is.
So basically the cheating worked they survived the other year then get points deducted when the bottom 3 start poorly so they'll still survive comfortably

Everton will stay up comfortably regardless.
Dyche has turned them into a fairly decent outfit.

Re: Everton docked 10 points
That's why I don't understand this 'punishment' if it was two seasons ago Everton get relegated and lose out on hundreds of millions of pounds yet now they'll survive comfortably and it'll have no impact on them whatsoever.
Really though we should be further up the table and thinking well that's one position almost nailed on for relegation

Tinfoil hat on but Imo they’ve handed this knowing that they’ll still stay up as the bottom of the league is that poor.

Seems to send exactly the wrong message.
Bet the ranch and prey you spend it wisely, and deal with it when you are far healthier down the road…
Is that not exactly why fair play was brought in… Leicester etc.

Couldn't agree more then they'll reduce it on appeal to 6 points just to make sure Everton have an helping hand.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 12:33 pmTinfoil hat on but Imo they’ve handed this knowing that they’ll still stay up as the bottom of the league is that poor.

Should be under a transfer embargo and made to sell players too to clear the financial debt but they'll carry on as before

My thoughts exactly. Even with the deduction they only need 1 win to take them out of the relegation places. They will be fine with Sean Dyche in chargeCoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 12:33 pmTinfoil hat on but Imo they’ve handed this knowing that they’ll still stay up as the bottom of the league is that poor.

An absolute non-punishment. If clubs cheat, relegate them. Dead simple. Expect City to be awarded some points if their day of reckoning ever comes, that's how toothless the people in charge are.

Re: Everton docked 10 points
If the Premier League relegate them as a direct punishment, without parachute payments, then the EFL can refuse to have them, Not saying this will happen, but they could end up in League 2 or the National League and like Rangers be forced to build again this time with more stringent financial protocols in place.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 12:41 pmIf the 10 point deduction actually happens then Chelsea and Manchester City would have to be sent down several Divisions to make it fair
Such a punishment would effectively be closer to a truer one, though realistically that would only apply when they get back to the top flight - these clubs could still benefit from their well established academies which fall outside the financial protocols

If anything it will galvanise them this season and they’ll stay up with points to spare.
It’s going to be interesting what Alan Pace does now, as they’ve been found to be in breach of the rules, it then supports our argument for compensation when they should have gone down instead of us.

The delay in punishments is a joke. Why do they get to keep last season's PL money which would have been ours if they weren't cheating. PL money which they also used to sign McNeil and pay Tarky's wages to rub salt in our wounds.

If it stands and Manchester City, Chelsea and other top Premiership Clubs are also deducted points then I would imagine the top 10 or 12 clubs would break away and form their own League ( either European of English) and get TV companies to pay big fees for viewing
Clubs like ourselves would get very poor TV coverage and money and it could be the death of lots of clubs

Couldn't have come at a better time for Everton, I've no doubt they'll recover from this.
Only point in launching an appeal would be to stave off claims for compensation from the likes of us.
Other than that, they're better off accepting it and move on.

The points deduction for Everton is an absolute precedent - unheard of for non-sporting reasons (think Middlesbrough failing to field a team)

In the end, I think this will be appealed against with some likelihood of change. It is unprecedented and in the end it came down to a relatively small sum of £20 million or so.
The problem for the independent panel is what to do with the likes of City and Chelsea who look to be much bigger cases than Everton.

Re: Everton docked 10 points
If someone had told us pre this season started that Everton would be imposed a 10 point ban, we would have done the proverbial and bit their hand off. But now that our club has made one of the very worst starts in the PL since it was formed-that's not enough according to many.
Everton are on the ascendancy-quite hard to beat with a good shape, Calvert Lewin seems to be fit (well done SD for managing his comeback), they have two very good wingers in McNeil & Harrison, who both score and assist, and a midfield that chip in goals. They are now a comfy mid table side and contrast us in so many ways.

Re: Everton docked 10 points
I expect BFC, primarily, in that the 3 years ended in 2021/22, to sue them, and I would expect it to settle out of court for far, far more than what Sheffield United got after the Tevez issue (£20m).
Everton won’t enter administration because of the further points deduction and the impact it has on the stadium etc. How can they continue building the stadium for next season if in administration?
If we get, for example, £50m (though I am guessing more) that would be huge in terms of our transfer kitty either in January or next summer.
Also worth factoring in that if we get relegated again due to Everton having a multi-year Premier League squad and us having a brand new one, our loss could be argued to be based on two relegations, not one. That’s why I would expect a quick out of court settlement but not until the appeal has concluded.

Everton were only 4 points ahead of us with a worse goal difference so even a 4 point deduction that season and they would have gone down. All adds to our argument which seems a strong one.

Re: Everton docked 10 points
The points deduction feels irrelevant as we won’t get within ten points of a Sean Dyche managed Everton this season with or without this - they’re organised, experienced and sadly have too much in the tank.
The major plus here though is surely that it means our sueing of them alongside Leeds and Leicester has now got real momentum after they have officially been found guilty. What effect that will have on Everton long term (and their stadium) is anybodies guess.
