Dug Outs at The Turf
Dug Outs at The Turf
They just commented on Sky that there are 3 grounds in the PL where Managers etc have to cross the pitch to get to the dug outs. They are Fulham Luton and of course Burnley. This made me wonder why ours are still in front of Bob Lord Stand. Surely there is more room in front of JH stand which would make sense as long as the CF stand is being used for to house the dressing rooms. If you sit in the JH would you prefer that change or leave it as it is ?

View would be blocked at front of Longside. Bob Lord stand is much higher at its front edge.

Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Check out the height of the first row on the Bob Lord then imagine having dug outs infront of the JHL.

I’d much prefer the TV cameras to be on the Bob Lord side so it shows the James Hargreaves’s on the TV. Would make the ground look a lot better and modern. Unsure if the Bob Lord is too small for this to get a good angle ?

No reason for them to be on the other side. I like the little quirks of Turf Moor…

Can’t see how it makes any difference whatsoever.

Sixteen seconds - before his manager had even got to his seat!
Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Why should they have to conform ? Turf Moor is different. That’s why it’s good.

Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Only for a very short time were they on the Longside - have been trying to think when they moved and when they moved back but it was only a short time. They were in front of the Bob Lord in 1983/84 when Bond was manager and in 1986/87 when Miller came back but moved between those two seasons so at the most for two seasons.pureclaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 9:20 pmthats where they used to be and it was always a race to get round to lie on top of the home concreate dug outs sometime allowed to stay other times forced off
As has been pointed out, moving them in front of the Longside now would cost us a lot of seats given how low it is at the front of the Longside.

Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
There was a short time when they were but it wasn't often there was any televising of our games then. They were placed right behind the directors box. If they were moved now, we'd have to build a platform I imagine on the top of the Bob Lord.ClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 9:21 pmI’d much prefer the TV cameras to be on the Bob Lord side so it shows the James Hargreaves’s on the TV. Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Cameras were on Bob Lord side upto at least the 1991/92 season as all the footage on the Champions video/DVD was from that side
Always thought it was odd though that the commentators gantry was on the Longside

Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Match of the day back in the 70s was from that side..... certainly the Orient game was that side
Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
The roof on the BL is low and there are the stanchions. The cameras, if situated at the back of the stand would not always show a clear unobstructed view. Those sat near the back of the BL are unable to see the screen between the JH and the JM stands.ClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 9:21 pmI’d much prefer the TV cameras to be on the Bob Lord side so it shows the James Hargreaves’s on the TV. Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
That being the case how did t'Rovers manage to do the same thing with their cameras? And their old stand has more stanchions than the BL.

Bob Lord and TV cameras are not friends.

The view from the current position is one of the best in the country. Pitch, Bob Lord, and the surrounding countryside.ClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 9:21 pmI’d much prefer the TV cameras to be on the Bob Lord side so it shows the James Hargreaves’s on the TV. The opposite view of a cheaply built, 30 year old bog standard stand isn't exactly what I'd call modern.

Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Hi Tony not often you get dates wrong but i think they moved in 1969 until 1974 as that was when the Brunshaw road stand was knocked down the Beehole stand extended 69/70 Bob Lord opened 1974 I think that from memorey the empty space and new build had a huge wooden fence along side the pitch, not sure if any dugout there but do feel was longside for 3 or 4 seasons. When the cricketfield stand opened was when the players started to come out from there and only moved to the side of the stand later on, From about 1974 we had season tickets in the cricket field just behind and above the players entrance I do rember being there for the wimbledon fa cup lossClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 8:46 amOnly for a very short time were they on the Longside - have been trying to think when they moved and when they moved back but it was only a short time. Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Obviously a lot will depend on what happens in the longer term with the BL and CFS. And where the dressing rooms are situated. I guess in a perfect world we would have 2 new stands but I can’t see that happening any time soon

Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Sorry, I was referring to the period in the 1980s when, for some reason, we just switched from the front of the Bob Lord to the Longside which was possibly just the 1985/86 season. The dug outs were actually there ready and that was during the time between the old stand being knocked down and the Bob Lord opening.pureclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 1:56 pmHi Tony not often you get dates wrong but i think they moved in 1969 until 1974 as that was when the Brunshaw road stand was knocked down the Beehole stand extended 69/70 Bob Lord opened 1974 I think that from memorey the empty space and new build had a huge wooden fence along side the pitch, not sure if any dugout there but do feel was longside for 3 or 4 seasons. Re: Dug Outs at The Turf
Tommy Cavanagh always wanted them in front of the Longside because it reminded him of Old Trafford
