Snowflakes are wrong - Again!
The snowflakes in the windows of the club shop are wrong -AGAIN!- for the second year running.
Who's responsible for this mess?
Snowflakes have six fold symmetry. The club shop snowflakes have eight fold symmetry.
This is pretty simple and elementary physics and geometry.
Needs sorting out immediately. One more year of this kind of error and we'll be the laughing stock of the snowflake community.

They were going to have flags in the window I was told.
Sales might improve after today.

Haha I'm of the opinion that only the dullest of folk don't have a deep interest in how things are and how things work.
Six sided snowflakes are gorgeous.
Eight sided "snowflakes" are like cheap doileys.

Excellent display from Burnley today.
Re: Snowflakes are wrong - Again!
It's not about the snowflake stickers in the window or whatever the f.uck, it's about a Steve Coogan character starting a thread where there's a word in the title which is used by overly-political people in a kind of incendiary way, but this character is trying to play it off as some kind of goofy ironic British wit, the kind that Oxbridge w@nkers love - you know, your Stephen Frys cadence and such, and your David Mitchells.
Totally self-aware of others' perception of himself, he has tried to incite a response to the trigger word "snowflake", but of course everything is about maintaining plausible deniability, so it's actually about the mathematics of crystal formation *taps nose twice*. He'll deny this agenda and turn it around, because that's how it has been set up. The whole point is to get people to think about snowflake as a political word, then turn around and say (French accent) moi? nonononono. At every step of the way the point is to place Rowls at the centre of attention and demonstrate to everyone that he's against the snowflakes (left wing people) while maintaining enough space to parry any accusation of doing just that and making the 'opponent' (because a partisan only sees opponents) look like the hysterical one, and by implication, him the reasonable one. So in a sense, this is a means of saying "behold my reasonableness". It's a really camp and flowery way of shouting into the internet "I am a conservative". He can't go "I just wish the blacks would say ask instead of aks" without sounding like a bellend, so he gets his fix with this, a more timid charade.
His response, naturally, is to say I'm reading politics where a politics does not exist, but of course I'm not - anyone with their wits about them will see that this is a psychological commentary, not a political one.

Oh spiral you small minded fellow.
Did it not cross your mind that I really like snowflakes and dislike incorrect snowflakes?
Granted, the double - meaning makes it a better thread title but is it beyond your imagination that somebody actually likes maths, symmetry, natural beauty and making snowflakes? Somebody who knows, for example, vihart's video on snowflakes off by heart?
I point out wrong snowflakes all the time. My dwellings are always decorated with 6 sided snowflakes.
Just enjoy the thread and don't be such a delicate octagon.

Re: Snowflakes are wrong - Again!
Snow would make a person more aggressive; this is a more acid than snow (but I'm not on that, either). Your $hit pun wouldn't work if you were going for accuracy though. And you shouldn't have put inverted commas around snow. Everyone can see your meaning, you just explain the joke by putting inverter commas around it and that makes it flop.

Hello,we're in the 21st century now... So no restrictions on snowflakes identifying as being eight fold symmetrical if they wish to be; I've seen and heard snowflakes assuming far more ludicrous identities than that.

Re: Snowflakes are wrong - Again!
Here's a story about snowflakes:
Every year I tend to make loads of snowflakes (see video in the 2nd post for how to make your own).
It's something I enjoy. They're not tricky, they keep me occupied and they look pretty neat.
I found out a couple of months ago that the dentist surgery where I used to work have kept my snowflakes from the final year I made them and carefully unfold them away each year before putting them back up. I was gobsmacked when I found out. Apparently they're up again for the 7th year in a row.
Anyway, here's another video about making snowflakes or "Christmas stars" as they are termed here.

The wikipedia definition of a snowflake is "a derogatory slang term for a person, implying that they have an inflated sense of uniqueness, an unwarranted sense of entitlement, or are overly emotional, easily offended, and unable to deal with opposing opinions'.
No idea why Spiral is so upset...

Re: Snowflakes are wrong - Again!
It really was about the snowflakes being wrong in the window lads & lasses.
Granted, there's the double-meaning but it really is about the snowflakes in the window being wrong. It's not much of a joke is it? It was designed as a jumping off point for the snowflakes thing.
Go and look at them for yourselves. They've got eight sides and are WRONG. It annoys me.
If you can't imagine that somebody just likes snowflakes and geometry then you need to work harder on your imagination. You might be missing out on a whole host of things hiding in plain sight in your life through a lack of vision.
There's beauty all around us if you're willing to open your eyes.

Back to the snowflakes:
Did you know that scientists can grow custom snowflakes to your own specific design by altering the conditions under which they form?

No offence Rowls but scientists can replicate DNA, send people to the moon and grow neurons so it comes as no surprise that they can eff around with snowflakes.Rowls wrote: βSun Dec 03, 2023 8:10 pmBack to the snowflakes:

What scientists can't very easily do is change people. My prediction is that people are heading for extinction anyway because machines are easier to program and as Karl Marx once noted the primary site of human conflict is based around the value of human labour.
Karl Marx had a lot of insight into economics verging on genius. Sadly, he wrote a rather rubbish pamphlet with Engels full of fallacious ideas and tendentious ideology.
And the bad news is - it won't be long before human labour is worthless ergo the ruling elite will kill us all off and replace us with technology.
And there it goes from snowflakes to Snowflakes - to science to Marx and finally to the end of all personkind.
Surely, no more noble an ending to a thread has ever been written by Person.... nor beast come to think of it.

I for one welcome our new robot overlords. Just as long as they appreciate the beauty of a six sided snowflake somehow in their programming.

Well that will depend upon those doing the programming and in my experience those who do the programming do struggle with a nature tending towards the pedantic: as do I.
So, I appreciate that the symmetry of snowflakes can be vexing, even if snowflakes are unique and therefore the asymmetry is subjective and closer to art than science - I feel better for getting that out.
So, you see a gentle mocking of oneself can be entertaining to those of us afflicted but sadly a bit over the head of those not.....
