I think that dashcams will be standard on most new cars in the near future (just like reversing cams).

Can’t recommend a cam but a tip. If you need to download, for evidence, don’t take the microcard out of the cam. Take the cam to the pc. I corrupted the card when I took it out and re-inserted it. Thankfully I got the footage I wanted.

If I put my iPhone near the dash cam it lets me view and save on the phone,I had a guy from Bolton fit mine at home I think it was around £220 and all the wiring is completely hidden apart from about 3” and that’s behind the rear view mirror.

I got a Nextbase 625 and rear view camera fitted by nextbase at home before a road trip to Spain.
So glad I did.
Sat in a restaurant having a meal before dropping my daughter back to Alicante airport.
Saw a car do a reverse 180 right in to the rear of my car. Causing a couple of grands worth of damage to my car.

It took 10 months to get my excess paid back. Even with dashcam proof.
Without the footage I honestly think I would have been out of pocket.
If the system was not hardwired I would not have got the footage from the parking mode.
Stays connected 24/7 now.

I have Blackvue front and rear without the annoying screen thing. Any incident is recorded to the card and simply viewed on laptop.

do you have any issues with draining the car battery at all with the 24/7 active camera?

Cams that have a permanently active parking mode come with a "battery discharge prevention" feature as part of the hardwire circuitry.

Once the battery voltage falls below a certain(usually configurable) level then the camera will be turned off

In that sense the camera will never be permanently on unless you have the car also hooked up to a trickle charger

Funny you should ask that, my camera was connected via the power outlet
(previously referred to as the cigarette lighter) which to my knowledge was
always only "live" when the ignition was switched on". Not so these days so
my camera was on permanently which was fine in the summer, but one very cold
winter's morning my battery was as flat as a pancake.

Luckily it was still under guarantee.
