VK explains why we have lots of wingers

and it's a load of bull.
How can he say that when we are so short of full backs, defensive cm and up top? I wish reporters would ask the right questions and follow ups.

Better question is why haven’t you strengthened centre midfield I would have thought. The article is buttering up Pace for another big bid for a winger

He’s not wrong with what he says
We already know that he tried to sign players like Maatsen last summer, but some people are acting like it’s their first transfer window and they didn’t know that not all deals get done

Re: VK explains why we have lots of wingers
I'm beginning to think that the 4 who played last season just aren't up to the rigours of PL football as outright wingers; JBG has certain qualities that keep him in the squad, more as a right sided midfielder than an orthodox winger.
Re: VK explains why we have lots of wingers
The only possible answer I can think of is he thought Koleosho and Odobert were going to be development players until he saw them train and like he said he thought he'd use JBG more central like he did last season.
So would have been left with Zaroury, Redmond and Tresor for the left, JBL, Benson and JBG for the right with the 2 youngsters as backup with the potential to be loaned out.

You've completely missed the point. There's no excuse for the inbalance in the last transfer window. It's the main reason why we are in such a mess. Is there really a Claret that can't see that?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 7:11 pmHe’s not wrong with what he says

Re: VK explains why we have lots of wingers
I think you're right re koleosho, but odobert cost decent money so would probably have been a starter if it hadn't been for koleoshos form... I haven't seen anything from the others to justify starting ahead of these twoGoliath wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 7:13 pmThe only possible answer I can think of is he thought Koleosho and Odobert were going to be development players until he saw them train and like he said he thought he'd use JBG more central like he did last season.

He tried to sign players like Maatsen to balance out the squad
It didn’t happen and some people are behaving like they’re new to transfer windows

Re: VK explains why we have lots of wingers
I agree although we haven’t seen enough of Benson, due to injuries. Yet why are Zaroury and Benson contracted to ‘27 & ‘28?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 7:12 pmI'm beginning to think that the 4 who played last season just aren't up to the rigours of PL football as outright wingers; JBG has certain qualities that keep him in the squad, more as a right sided midfielder than an orthodox winger.

The fact that we tried but didn't sign a left back or striker does not give an excuse for the number of wide men we now have within the squad - nine vying for two places, with a fair few of those contracted for the next four years or so
Can you imagine any of these guys being able to play at left back or leading the line up front ?
