I’m not an Emmerdale fan but I know of Zak. He’s passed away today.

It was PNE fans who gave us that nickname. I don’t think the bloke who played Zak had any interest in football.

Bottom end of Burnley Wood

Was a mate of my dad's before who I saw all the time before he moved over to Yorkshire.

My dad tells the story of him coming over to let him know he'd been offered a role on "some TV thing" after he'd been in the background there a couple of times - never thought he'd go in to be one of the lost iconic soap stars in the country.

RIP Steve

Without doubt one of the iconic soap stars. I think he was still appearing occasionally in Emmerdale too.

Steve was a Bury supporter - that was his home town. Bizarrely I once attended Harrogate Town's final home game of a season on a Friday night when they had won one of the Northern Premier League titles & Steve presented the Player of the Year awards on the pitch after the game.

He used to sup in the Talbot back in the 1990s.

Didn't he once do the half time draw in a game against Preston, or was that a lookalike?

RIP Steve Halliwell.

Thought the Burnley team pic with his head superimposed on each player was very amusing.

He was good in Emmerdale Farm back in the day when it was watchable.

I recall it being Preston and perhaps not coincidence with the dingle thing.

He was great in the programme going back several years, although he wasn’t the Zak we all knew and loved the last time he featured in Emmerdale. RIP. Zak Dingle.

Bit of a summary from commentsin the postings:-
Steve was born in Bury.
Lived on Clarence Street off Tod Rd up to moving to Yorkshire after he got the Zak part.
Supped more or less every night in The Woodman. Not certain but pretty sure he was in their Pub Quiz team for a while.

Did he used to drive the actors about for Emmerdale before getting the part?

Pretty sure my old man mentioned this... Used to travel over for filming and was an extra a few times then got offered the job and had to move over as the commute was too much

A mate of mine was on his stag do in Zanzibars on Keirby Walk and SH was stood at the bar. My mate said “ you’re Zak Dingle aren’t you?”. He replied yes and asked what the occasion was and then promptly paid for a full round of drinks for the lads on the stag do. Top man. RIP Zak Dingle.

Never heard about the driving bfcc.
He didn't move to Yarksha straight away, but if I remember correctly, he lost his driving licence and basically had to move over there.

burnley wood to esholt isn't such a big commute. i suppose it depends on the shifts.

i think the over-acting pillock who plays marlon was in it as a copper before being a dingle.
