I think CT has summed it up well. I trust not even the minority boo him, and he gets the reception he deserves followed by a pasting of his team

I won't be there, but if I was I would stand and applaud him all the way across the pitch. After what he's done for our club he deserves nothing less.

Deserves nothing but our respect. Worked miracles for us more than once.

I hope we can cheer him off home after we've won, too.

A great servant to the club and actually left when things had improved strangely. Some excellent eprformances in his lasr 3 months at the club, which all seemed to be overshadowed by a pretty poor Norwich performance. Ive seen much worse than that over the years.

I think he would have kept us personally but we will never know

I think Ben Mee’s comments since have suggested that that dressing room had been lost. What’s done is done. I think he left at the right time. Did amazing things for the club, deserves a good reception.

So we are in a relegation battle and our opposition are currently in the same battle (admittedly through off the field activities) and at a time when we really need a win you want to sing songs celebrating the opposition manager??
Yes. We are only playing them because of Sean Dyche.

Singing and applauding him before and after does not affect anything once the whistle goes. Then we give Everton hell and cheer on our own

We were heading for relegation under him.

The results only improved under Jackson briefly, but then we took one point from the last four games which did for us unfortunately.

I don't believe for a minute we'd have stayed up had Dyche stayed though.

The results improved under Dyche. Spurs, Brighton, Everton.
If wed beaten Norwich everyone would have thought we were on a roll. We then had the easier fixtures that made Jacksons life easier. For me he made an absolute mess of it with his team selection v Newcastle. Instead of going for it he put out a team with Collins at right back for the first time all season in fear of the opposition. That set the tone.

He’ll get a very good if brief reception and the past can be forgotten as we try and the scousers . Hopefully turn the tables and “ feed the scousers” ringing from the ground

Feed the scousers is an utterly repulsive thing to sing and will be confined to a small minority of really unpleasant people.

Fully agree but people will come along saying that Ben Mees postseason interview where he said there was a feeling from some of the team that things had gone stale means he'd totally lost the dressing room and Mike Jackson completely transformed them

Rumour is some fans are still clapping McNeil.

A very pleasant atmosphere for Everton today.

He got a round of applause as he went down to take a corner in the second half.

In other words, a brighter reception than any of our players before during or after the game.

This is what it's come to now. Embarrassing.

How dare people applaud the only player to come through our youth system (kind of) in the last 10 years.
Hes done a lot more for this club than a lot of our players out on the pitch did and probably cares a lot more about this club than some of them as well.
Also, Manuel Benson got a much louder reception for one.

Fill your boots before the game when his name is read out, but during the game it should be us and them, not applauding opposition players.

Why, who cares. Do you think our players or even their players give a toss about when we applaud him. Id be surprised if anyone on the pitch even noticed bar Mcneil

I clapped for Dyche before the match and, if they still announced the away team, would have also clapped the three ex Burnley lads too. Once the game commenced that all stopped.

I wonder if the same people applauding would have celebrated if he'd scored? 🤔

Fans around me started clapping McNeil to drown out some boos.

Why would anyone want to boo a former player who came through the youth ranks and made the club 20m profit?
It's exactly what we want from every player that comes to Burnley.

I think that the only embarrassed person in the stadium was you!
McNeil received some polite applause from Burnley fans when he went over to take a corner, why on earth is that embarrassing?

Were you at Bristol City last season when Josh Brownhill went to take a corner and the whole of that stand rose to applaud him?
The Bristol City fans were acknowledging their former player.

If indeed you were there, did you also find that embarrassing?

So, you don't fondly remember Leighton James, Frank Casper, Glen Little or Andy Payton.

I mean part and parcel of being a football fan is that it becomes part of the fabric of your life.

The names and memories of the former players and managers are a vivid as the friends and work colleagues you interacted with at the time: Big Stan, Jimmy Mullen or Sean Dyche.

What's the problem with showing respect for players who we watched week and week out for years.

What's cringey about former players remembering their time at the club fondly?

And that's your view; I'm not calling it 'cringey' just making the point that other may want to show some respect.

And that's pretty normal for a football fan - we become attached to legends of the club like Dyche and no doubt kids will remember Tarko like I remember Colin Waldron and Alan Stevenson....

I don't remember most of my teachers at the time but I can reel of the Burnley side in the 70s like it was yesterday even though many like Leighton James left the club for pastures new.

Fair point isn't it?

Not really. For a start you're overstating the word 'legend'... And there's nothing more cringey than calling Tarkowski "Tarko".

I think calling yourself after the Cuban communist leader is every bit as "cringey"!!
Who are you calling yourself after? Tony Philliskirk?

Not really. For a start you're overstating the word 'legend'... And there's nothing more cringey than calling Tarkowski "Tarko".
If it's overstating things to call Dyche a club legend then we haven't had a legend since 1960.

Yes, to be fair there's more of a case for describing Dyche as a legend than McNeil.
