Throw ins....
Does anyone remember a side as bad at throw ins as we currently are? We never seem to have any options when we have the ball. I think Berge's second yellow came from our throw in...Taylor had nothing on so threw it infield to Berge who was immediately under pressure. Hopefully we can improve on this between now and the end of the season!

Re: Throw ins....
We have never, ever been good at throw ins
Stemming back to at least the mid 90s when I started going on (though I was only a nipper then).
As soon as a player dons the famed Claret shirt all of a sudden at throw ins they turn to stone.
Baffling I know

Re: Throw ins....
They haven't done "throw in" classes yet.
That's next term.

Re: Throw ins....
So that’s what I tell my team. Long throws up the line as quickly as you can retrieve the ball.
It’s really effective.
I’d expect PL players to be able to do better but it was 100% Charlie’s crazy throw to Berge that cost him the second yellow (which on MOTD looked harsher than it did live).
When your own fans are getting annoyed at how long you take with them you know something is wrong.
It HAS to be something we start to work on in training as they’re dreadful (just about to post a list of positives from today in the interests of balance).
Re: Throw ins....
Makes me laugh when away fans start booing thinking we’re time wasting.
No, we’re just **** at throw ins, we’d be taking as long if we were 1 down with 2 mins to go!

We do seem to take an age to throw the ball back in to play, not helped by a seemingly total lack of movement or willingness to receive the ball?!
It’s a far cry from last year when we would often throw in the ball into the midfield area to start an attack! Again, does this further highlight the difference between the leagues??

Re: Throw ins....
Ha ha! I know! Whenever we get a throw in, I feel like we are either going to give away possession or someone is getting booked! It seems like we are defending set pieces better now so hopefully we can start practicing throw ins soon!

Re: Throw ins....
I'm waiting for someone to post heat maps and xTI's and tell me that we aren't actually too bad at throw ins!
Re: Throw ins....
You can make a cup of tea in the time it takes Vitinho to take a throw in.

Re: Throw ins....
Most of our set pieces are generally poor but at least we are quick and decisive with our throw ins!!

You can also add corners to 'must do better' half-term report.
110 corners this season resulting in just a single goal.

I think the success rate for corners is 5%.
Will be a lot higher with us defending!!!

Equates to 0.9% conversation rate.steve1264b wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 12:39 pmI think the success rate for corners is 5%.

Chance conversion rate in open play is a pitiful 10%.
