Mr Bates vs the Post Office
Re: Mr Bates vs the Post Office
Couldn’t believe the lies they told the the post mistress who appeared in the first episode ,and it’s disgusting if they on got £20,000 comp.
Re: Mr Bates vs the Post Office
I have followed this as best I could since it first became 'public.' A kid of ten could soon work out that the chances of countless number of post office
proprietors who have given years of faithful service to the PO are not suddenly all going to turn to criminal activity at about the same time.It has been rightly described as the biggest miscarriage of justice ever perpetrated in this country and those responsible should now also face justice.
I note that a couple of political leaders are now feeling the heat for ignoring what was so obvious when they were confronted with it.
Tonight's TV is now highlighting serious failings in nearly all the Fire and Rescue forces in the country. The list of their activities and how what was openly perpetrated was ignored by those in authority and leadership roles is just too awful. What sort of country are we?

I’m up to speed now having watched two episodes last night. It’s certainly gripping. I agree it’s alarming that it wasn’t picked up and resolved a lot earlier. You feel nothing but sympathy for all those post office proprietors. I don’t think they’ll ever get over the trauma and upset this caused them, their loved ones and families.

Hats off to Private Eye who were highlighting this scandal long before anyone else knew what was happening. Even when they did know many of the major news outlets and newspapers chose to ignore it.
The PO has now succeeded in dragging this out so long they have reduced the estimated compensation costs by 50% in their most recent set of accounts: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67784706

Re: Mr Bates vs the Post Office
Just finished episode 3.
The acting and the way it’s been shot I think is brilliant.
Toby Jones is just good in everything he does.
Really is such a tragic series of events.
But let’s get this right - it’s not misfortune or bad luck. It’s corruption and cover up at the highest levels by the Post Office.
You cannot say that successive governments are blameless either.
If they can intervene in putting billions into bailing out banks who gambled their customers monies away it could have easily intervened to help resolve and speed up the justice process and also ensure that criminal and civil cases were brought against those responsible.
If a government cannot do the right thing in cases like this and Hillsborough then large institutions will do what they always do - deny everything, put millions into legal teams and drag things out for decades to try and break (or bankrupt) the innocent. Or if they drag it out long enough hope that the innocent just die.

Isn't ITVx an app that you have to download to your TV?
Fairly sure that's how I got when it first came out

Re: Mr Bates vs the Post Office
Just to add, the app itself tends to buffer on a regular basis.
As for the programme itself, well there has been some great dramas of late (the one about Peter Sutcliffe for example) and this is up with the best of them.
Magnificent performance's from all concerned.

Try typing in ITV Hub and I believe you get redirected.

Re: Mr Bates vs the Post Office
Does it not just appear on the smart tv's?
Re: Mr Bates vs the Post Office
I'd read about this in the news but having watched the 4 episodes I'm absolutely amazed at the attitiude, beligerence, arrogance, lies and determination to cover it up by the Post Office. Someone needs to be made accountable for this and even charged with manslaughter for those that took their own lives as they are 100% responsible.
Just shows the lengths these big businesses will go to, to protect themselves at the expense of employees. Unfortunately, just like in football, money talks but in this case it wasn't enough thankfully.

It wasn't on on the itvx hub on my mums admittedly archaic freeview tv, but it was available via itvx on her phone.
Given that she'd rather not watch it on her phone, could it be that her freeview needs updating somehow?
Freeview tv's kinda fell down the 'will never need to know so don't bother to learn' crevasse of modern technology for me....

The legal costs were over £40million out of a total payout of about £55m, I guess money did talk.

Yeah, CT, and I can find it on my Xbox app and PC.
I have no idea if freeview boxes/tv's work differently though, like do they need to catch up through the aerial or something?!

I’m talking about the ITVX app on Sky Q - it’s not there on mine and I’ve seen others post the same.
Re: Mr Bates vs the Post Office
That's weird because it just appeared on mine when it was launched, just like the channel 4 one did a few weeks agoClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 8:40 pmI’m talking about the ITVX app on Sky Q - it’s not there on mine and I’ve seen others post the same.
Have you got Netflix, prime or bbc Iplayer in the apps section?
If not, or if you have, but not itvx in the same place, I'd be ringing sky, because it certainly should be there
Enjoy tonight's episode
