Zaroury
Anyone else feel like like we saw everything there is to love about zaroury tonight but also everything there is about his game that is probably why he’s not getting a look in.
First off the positives, he’s control of the ball and flair allowed him to get past players and create space for himself, some good cross field passes and then the brilliant ball for Amdouni’s chance.
Then the negatives, some very weak under hit passes back to Vitinho, lack of confidence and the biggest thing was his body language, just looked like he was going through the motions (I know some players do look like that) but if I’m trying to stake my claim to be starting week in week out I’m chasing every ball down and making sure I’m working harder than everybody else. Take Ramsey for example I don’t personally think cm suits him but he looked like he wanted to be in the team and was trying to work hard off the ball

Think he was decent tbh.
Another one that should have started and been given more chance. That ball through to Amdouni was sublime.

Re: Zaroury
I liked him from the right but he just didn’t look interested at times and again it’s just the way he is but when your not playing (rightly or wrongly) you have to be extra off the ball. However he is as good of option off the bench as Tresor and Redmond at the momentCoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 11:47 pmThink he was decent tbh.

Re: Zaroury
Very good in bits today and has a big future ahead at Burnley. This season is a little to soon but I think there is a reason we might see someone like Benson move on whilst in the nest 2 or 3 years we see Zaroury grow into a top Burnley player.
Have some patience and let VK grow him and use him at the right pace cos the boy is still very yoyng

Re: Zaroury
I didn’t see anything that said he’s ahead of Odobert or Brunn Larsen. Tresor maybe but nothing much in it.
I think if he bulked out a bit and got a bit stronger it’d help.

I think he would develop better as an advanced midfielder than as a winger, I hope we keep him.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 11:54 pmVery good in bits today and has a big future ahead at Burnley. Re: Zaroury
I thought first 10 mins he looked a bit nervy and rusty. But he started to show some lovely touches and then absolutely split them open and out one on a plate for Amdouni.
Finally got put in his best position on the left and started to run at them but then got taken off for a half arsed Tresor.

Re: Zaroury
Not ready for this level yet, let him develop and grow he’s here for the long term.

Re: Zaroury
He didn't give Vitinho any help first half. Lost the ball a bit easily, bit wasteful with his shooting, but created our best chance wonderfully and looked far better switched to the left.
Don't know that he's quite explosive enough for the Prem in some ways, he's not got the top line pace, or the ability to go from static to moving quickly even though he can dribble and is reasonably two footed. That said, McNeil hasn't got tons of pace and is much more one footed and has come on so much the past 12 months at Everton. Zarourys still young enough to develop even if others are now younger. I hope we intend to keep him longer term.

Re: Zaroury
Not every wide player is absolutey rapid. Aslong as they have other attributes hes fine. The one thing hes good at is making himself a yard of slace to get a cross in and hes a wonderful crosser of a ball on both feet. Also got the ability to drift into pockets of space and pick passes.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 12:33 amHe didn't give Vitinho any help first half. He cant play on the right because Vitinhos there but hed be ahead of Tresor and up to 2nd choice for the left hand side now behind Odobert.

There’s no doubt there’s a player in there but defensively very weak.

Re: Zaroury
like the rest, needs time on the pitch. No question whatsoever about his ability, he seems to have lost his mojo a bit which when you aren't getting much of a chance is bound to happen. Head down and graft

As with many others the first ten minutes he was rusty given he’s hardly played any minutes of football this season. Thought he improved and played well after that.

I think that’s an issue with a few of the wingershelmclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 5:16 amLike a few of the others that have been ‘written off,’ he needs a run in the team.
None of them seem to be able to get any momentum because we are rotating so often
Re: Zaroury
I was a bit harsh in rating him a 5 on the ratings thread and some really loose play clouded my view (I’d put this more down to rustiness). I agree with a poster above who suggests he’s more of an attacking midfielder than winger at this level. His through ball to Zeki in that area was sublime, did a similar one for Larsen at Salford earlier this season. I think there was enough there on that inside right position in the 4-4-2 we play to suggest persisting with.

Re: Zaroury
He was a hit and miss last night. Looked to have lost an edge of match sharpness but his ability and quality was still evident.
Really hope we keep the lad and see him do well in a Burnley shirt.

Re: Zaroury
We saw glimpses of his magic with occasional sublime passing that very nearly created good scoring chances.. yes , he wasn’t at his best all the game but for me … I saw enough to give him a run in the team to get him firing on all cylinders again

Re: Zaroury
For someone who has barely played since May, he was fine. A bit rusty at times, and probably a bit uncertain in his positioning at times, but basically fine.
He's got weaknesses, especially defensively, but I don't think that explains why he's been marginally to the extent he has this season and his quality of pass and cross is not in doubt.

I still think he is a lightweight for the Premier League. Id like to keep him should we get relegated as he will be a big asset next year.

Re: Zaroury
I would play him any time instead of JBG. Saw a number of glimpses last night of how good he can be. The instinctive lift for Amdouini's first chance was brilliant and had Bernado Silva of Man City made that we would be seeing it on SKY for another week

Re: Zaroury
Thought he did ok. Brilliant for Amdouni chance and a couple of other nice touches but played on wrong side of pitch and lacking the confidence to take on his man as he did last year and whip in those great crosses.
Shame really as unfortunately meant that Vitinho was left to cross the ball a few times….something he is not capable of doing without ballooning it to the other corner flag.
JBL has had a few awful performances though and he seems to be getting a lot more of an opportunity than Annas. Struggling to see why VK is not trying to integrate Annas more and build up his confidence by using him more from the bench or starting him for the odd game like he has with Tresor, JBL.
Koleosho and Odabert are the only ones of our wingers who have been consistently good - both tend to get subbed after 60 / 65 mins which seems like a good opportunity to bring on Zaroury in his best position on the left.

Re: Zaroury
Lovely dink for the Amdouni chance, but otherwise looked rusty and offered very little out of possession.
Thought there was a world of difference between the defensive shift Odobert and he put in. It may have been tactical I suppose, but if not he’s probably not done himself any favours.

Re: Zaroury
I’d be giving him the benefit of the doubt given how little he’s played this season. For those attacking players to really shine there needs to be more ability behind them.
Both centrally in midfield and in the fullback positions

Re: Zaroury
Looked off the pace early on but grew into the game. A few lovely touches here and there. The ball for Zeki was magic and shows what he offers. He deserves far more game time than he's seeing. Would much rather see him than JBL, Tresor, Redmond etc. Tresor is only getting miuntes due to how much he cost, not his return on the pitch. He looks worse every time I see him. At least Zaroury looks like he might make something happen. He's as close as we have to another Amdouni type so his lack of minutes really is baffling.
Re: Zaroury
I think he needs 3 or 4 full games ,trouble is there’s no reserve games anymore to get them up to speed.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 10:53 amLooked off the pace early on but grew into the game. Re: Zaroury
I'd start the same front four against Luton. Odobert, Foster, Amdouni and Zaroury. There's real quality in that group. I suspect Zaroury will drop out of the squad entirely again though!

I’d just love to see him smile more.

Re: Zaroury
Some of the comments about Tresor on here are baffling the final product asn’t always been there but I couldn’t fault his effort last night he was chasing back and always available for the ball. Anyway this is about Zaroury and I thought as others have said it was mixed bag probably down to rustiness but have to say the ball for Amdouni in the first half was sensational just unlucky with the bounce taking it backwards and Amdouni control or we would have been talking about that for a long time.
