Burnley Women
Just secured a huge win away to Wolves. The only team other than Newcastle that they’ve drawn with this season.
Keeps the pressure on the Toon at the top.
Went 1-0 down early doors and then showed great character to come back in the second half.
Reidford and Embley with the goals.

Feb 11th. We’re away to Liverpool that weekend so really hope they move it to the Turf.

Will have a healthy budget given the number of City girls they are taking on duel registration.

If we exclude all the positive/moral side of having a good women's side and look at it from a primarily financial point of view, then it will benefit us in the long term. If investors know they are investing in a strong men's and women's side, they are more likely to spend their money here. It is also very positive from a branding perspective, especially considering we are very US focused and the women's game is a lot more in the spotlight over there.
If nothing else though, they women are doing exceptionally well this season and they deserve a game at the Turf where a few thousand will likely turn out to applaud their efforts.

Re: Burnley Women
For those interested, we’re currently playing vs Birmingham City who are top of the Championship in the 4th round of the WFA cup.
1-0 down for most of the game, Birmingham clearly the better side but with lots of good play from Burnley and we’ve defended excellently. Levell, the keeper, pulled off some fantastic saves to keep us in it then equalised in additional time with a pen.
Extra time starting shortly on TikTok (yes I have an account ) for those who fancy it. If we get through it will be the first time we’ve ever reached that far.
Alan is there throwing balls back in, etc. Good lad

Re: Burnley Women
1-3, went in search of an equaliser in the end and got caught.
Can’t say Birmingham didn’t deserve it. They were superior and worked Levell (who is a real coup, given she’s won the competition with Birmingham before - real leader, organiser, almost Pickford-esque - a bit of what we need in the men’s team) all afternoon. She pulled off some top saves but the girls caught valiantly and in parts played really well.
Showed to me they’d be fine in the league above if that’s the top team. Will be a hard slog getting there with only one promotion place though.

A credible result against a team that will all likely be vying against Arsenal, Chelsea and City next season.
Forest next up in the league, another tough game, hopefully we can take some positives into it from today.

Re: Burnley Women
Yeah, definitely. They had a couple of Korean players who looked really good. You could tell the level was higher but not by as much as say you might get between top of league one and top of championship in the mens game so a real opportunity to progress the women’s team if we can get up.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 6:02 pmA credible result against a team that will all likely be vying against Arsenal, Chelsea and City next season.

That will be the issue. Newcastle now 5pts ahead with a game extra played. They’ve scored 23 goals in their last 3 games so are miles away on GD.
We have a real tough couple of games coming up. First, Forest (3rd) away weekend after next, then Newcastle at home. Two massive games that will define the season.
After that I think we’ve played all the top teams twice and have a good run in. Newcastle haven’t lost a game or drawn to anyone other than us though, so think we have to win the next two to stand a chance.
One promotion place is barmy though.

Re: Burnley Women
Pretty sure that Newcastle are the only professional team in the division so no surprise that they're out at the front.
That's the trouble with it being in flux at the moment, you're suddenly getting hefty investment (and we are probably one of the teams doing this too) in the lower leagues where the promotion spots are limited.

Re: Burnley Women
I have it on good authority that the last two league games will be played at the Turf .. Liverpool Feds (21st April) and Derby County (5th May).
Apparently the reason why the womens team dont play more matches on the Turf is because the pitch cant handle the 'wear and tear'. Our current pitch was laid some 12 years ago but it's supposed to be replaced every 10 years.
Anyways, where-ever the womens team play we should go and support them. They are a talented bunch who narrowly missed out on promotion last season and are currently in a very good position to get promoted this season. Huge game against Newcastle on 11th Feb.

I just find it really hard to believe that it can’t take extra games each season. In the Champ we played 23 at home, plus cup games. This year we’re playing 19 at home and we’re out of the cup. I think we could get 4-5 in, although great news if the last two are.Muzamil.shah wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 6:37 pmI have it on good authority that the last two league games will be played at the Turf .. The age of the pitch is a bit of a surprise. I did the Spurs stadium tour recently and they change theirs every year - although not sure why such regular changes are necessary either.

I definitely think the singular promotion place hinders investment. Not sure I’d back our team going fully professional if the chances were so slim.

I do think that 'wear and tear' is a cop out excuse from the club. The last game from the previous season had a really good turn out (practically filled the Bob Lord stand. The club are missing out on some revenue there.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 7:20 pmI just find it really hard to believe that it can’t take extra games each season. Hopefully if the club replaces the current pitch either at the end of this season or the next, we might see more home games for the women's team.
I don't think our club can afford to have the pitch replaced every season ... apparently its costs around £20m.
I read everything in the messageboard but never post ... but the women's game gets a lot of unnecessary stick so had to post. UTC

Re: Burnley Women
Spurs' pitch is a different sort of situation to everyone else. It is laid in boxes so that it can be 'put away' for events. Almost certainly, that is why they need to reseed it every year.
Re: Burnley Women
Newcastle Women have played a few games at St James Park and had a crowd of something like 30,000!

20million to replace the pitch ! I hope it wasn’t the same source that told you 2 x women’s games would be played on the Turf this season … there could be quite a wait !
If the women’s team were getting promoted /in the running I guess 2 end of season games would hardly wreck the pitch and be an excellent idea . Always thought the pitch is in superb condition though .

Newcastle women lost today to Nottingham Forest, who we play next week. We are 6 poins behind Newcastle with 2 games in hand and play them at home in Feb. We won 6-0 against Fylde in the cup today.

That puts Forest right in the mix too, although Newcastle still in prime position. Technically still in our own hands though, going to be an interesting second half of the season.
