Calvert Lewin

Post by claretonthecoast1882 » Tue Jan 09, 2024 4:04 pm

Has had his red card against Palace overturned.

Serious questions need asking about some of these officials. 3 looked at this over and over and then decided it was a red.

Good. A nonsense of a decision.

Totally agree, didn't think it was a free kick but to then give a red was stupid

Hope this means that if a “clown “ on VAR sends the match referee to the screen he now in some cases sticks to his original decision

the fix is simple, if VAR thinks there is an issue there should be a noise sent to the refs watch or headset that indicates they need to go to the screen. There should be ZERO voice communication and there should be 3 replays all at normal speed. If the ref can't spot the clear and obvious mistake then his/her on field decision stands. The whole mess is caused by those doing VAR giving their opinion when they shouldn't.

They need to stop using slow motion - if you need to use slow motion, it's not a clear and obvious error. Also, they need to show more of the play beforehand to give context to the challenge.

Or go the other way and change the rules - if studs are up in ANY instance - it's a straight red card. Same with contact in the penalty area - just say they are the rules. ANY contact off the ball will be punished.

That seems to be what they want, so why make it so confusing

Might finish up 7 a side if they give reds for every studs up,I reckon that if a player makes reasonable contact with the ball first no more than a yellow can be given ,and as you say no slow motion, might be an idea to fit the ref with a camera and allow VAR only the use the view that the ref sees unless there’s an off the ball incident that the ref can’t see.

It was a studs up challenge. I know he barely caught his shin but he did. I wouldn’t be calling the match officials even though it is overturned.
I also think this could cause some controversy in future, they’ve set a precedent.

Each team get two challenges per game.

When they want to make a challenge the ref goes to the monitor and watches 3 normal speed replays, if a decision cannot be made after that then stick with the onfield original decision.

Get rid of Stockley Park completely so you don't have 2 or 3 people in the ref's ear giving their opinion.

For offside, just have an extra official on the side of the pitch to see a replay, if a clear mistake cannot be seen then it goes with the onfield decision. Or for replays introduce the automated offside which they use in UEFA and FIFA competitions.

It would be impossible to slide tackle with your studs facing down. They need to be careful because very soon slide tackles will almost be ruled out, you can see why so many are switching off from football

That is point I’m making. I’m not sure what Football authorities want.

The VAR official in question will be the 4th official at the Turf on Friday - the less opportunity he has to interfere in our matches the better, giving him such authority on the sideline would likely prove a huge error

Get rid of it.

It hasn't worked has been implemented terribly.
