Ross Barkley
How on earth is he playing for Luton ?
Ran the show today, we missed a trick not getting him !
Brownhill & Cullen couldn’t get near him.
The type of player we need, creative and can ping a forward pass. Cullen & Brownhill good players but pass sidewards and don’t take risks.

I thought he was poor, given a lot of the ball and did nothing with it. Looks considerably slower than he used to be.

Re: Ross Barkley
Had a great game collecting crosses and ruined it and the end by being weak and clumsy got caught in no man’s land.
Re: Ross Barkley
created more than any other player on the pitch
allowed luton to flow
plenty of shots
MOM by far - there's no burnley player that deserved the accolade.
we werent clinical enough as usual

Said on another thread we should have been in for him - but then again brownhill and Cullen gave him the freedom on the parkClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 9:52 pmHow on earth is he playing for Luton ?

Best player on the pitch for me - Brownhill and Cullen couldn’t get near him. Won the ball, used it well, spread the play and offered a threat.

Re: Ross Barkley
Barkley was pretty special tonight. Dominated our midfield, one thing I can honestly say is I did not expect to have less than 40% possession against Luton.
His stats were quite impressive, most tackles in the game, most passes by a midfielder, most forward passes by a midfielder, most successful dribbles by a midfielder, most shots from a midfielder, most chances created from a midfielder.
Fair play to the lad he’s found his form after 4-5 years of not playing much regular football

The difference between a team who got their recruitment right and another who have embarked on some resale vanity project plucking players out of thin air.

Re: Ross Barkley
Absolutely ran the midfield. Calm in possession, strong on the ball and gave the finest example of a cross field ball in the first half you are likely to see.
He will have done at some point but I can’t remember him giving the ball away.

Re: Ross Barkley
I thought we were passive in general, just allowed them to have the ball.
Re: Ross Barkley
Go follow Luton then, moaning BFC fans been masturbating on here over Luton all season. They’re rubbish.
Re: Ross Barkley
Majority of the time he picked the ball up it amazed me how much space and time he had, he could do what he wanted with it.
The few times we closed him down we got a bit of luck but his eye for a pass and how he popped up several times for a strike at goal was way above what I would have liked.

Re: Ross Barkley
I didn’t expect much from Cullen and Brownhill and I wasn’t disappointed on that front.
Every relegation we have from the Premier League has been as a result of a poor midfield, this will be no exception (with the addition of a couple of full backs).
Berge was a big miss today - our two were like boys against Barkley.

Re: Ross Barkley
He played well but we gave him the freedom of Turf Moor. He lost the ball in the second half in a dangerous area when we actually decided to press him a bit. Showed a lot more than the two Josh’s. We missed Berge massively.

Re: Ross Barkley
They finished miles below us last season, and now are better than us and will finish above us. They recruited sensibly and topped up their squad with quality and have a fighting chance. We have regressed.
I wouldn’t call that w&nking over Luton but whatever.
Re: Ross Barkley
Thought we were miles off it tonight but probably deserved to just win it in the end, based on chances. Desperately missed Berge and a left back and a right winger.DCWat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:33 pmI didn’t expect much from Cullen and Brownhill and I wasn’t disappointed on that front.

Re: Ross Barkley
Everything went through him and he seems to have transformed the way Luton play. He didn’t have a huge effect on the game in terms of contributing to big moments, but he was determined to move the ball forward whenever he got it, which unfortunately too many of our players weren’t - preferring instead the safe option backwards inevitably resulting in us losing possession from a direct ball.

Re: Ross Barkley
Cullen more than competed with him when they were 1 on 1 and Josh Brownhill wasn't directly up against Barkley
Re: Ross Barkley
Thought Lokonga was way better. So much so that we man marked him. Let Barkley have the ball in the back where he couldn't do any harm. Some good long passes other than that not much of him.
But this is what midfielders are supposed to be good at. Ours are just good at running. Which is just what Burnley fans want so what's the problem?

Re: Ross Barkley
How are they better than us? Probably only at midfield they have some very good players. Which is not to be underestimated. Every good team has good midfielders. With Cullen and Brownhill you won't get far in the premier league. All other positions we got better players. The fact they can even draw against us having Kaminski in the goal to be is surprising. I wouldn't even trade him for Vigouroux.

Re: Ross Barkley
He was excellent until our goal and then came to the fore again in the final 10 minutes - mainly because we decided to allow him to sit in his own pocket of space, unmarked with only Foster closing him down.
The penny dropped and Cullen finally decided to mark him, but then when we sat deep in the final stretch he was allowed that pocket again. Frankly bizarre tactics. The. Again, Vitinho was on Adebayo so Christ knows what the tactics were!

Re: Ross Barkley
I think the majority of Premier League Club fans are saying to themselves " Did we miss a trick not getting him". A free transfer and Luton were prepared to take the risk on a player that was drifting into obscurity at Nice. Well played Luton. You will lose him this Summer for sure whether you stay up or not.ClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 9:52 pmHow on earth is he playing for Luton ?

Re: Ross Barkley
If Barkley was playing against a proper premier league midfield last night he would have been caught in possession and lost the ball so many times, I thought we allowed him time on the ball and let him play the same ball all game

Re: Ross Barkley
He very rarely loses possession, always finds his man. He's done that all season and against the best teams - not just against us and rightly got plaudits for it. Aren't they talking about a recall up for England?123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:19 amIf Barkley was playing against a proper premier league midfield last night he would have been caught in possession and lost the ball so many times, I thought we allowed him time on the ball and let him play the same ball all game

Re: Ross Barkley
He was very good. But then again he was up against Brownhill and Cullen which has got to be the softest midfield pair in the league. Doubt he'll have an easier game.

Watch it back look how many loose touches he had, he turned in the same position 3 or 4 times before deciding which pass to play, proper prem cms last night dominate him and lokonga

Re: Ross Barkley
Am not talking about just last night and not withstanding Brownhill and Cullen allowed him the room to play ( agree) he has been superb all season. He ran the show against Arsenal when they were 3-2 up at one point, was MotM against Liverpool where they got a draw. MotM against Newcastle in their win over them. Consistency not just against players who allow him space but how he creates space for himself with his ability to retain possession and pass to a man in his own shirt, a skill that some of our own midfielders seem to have lost.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:35 amWatch it back look how many loose touches he had, he turned in the same position 3 or 4 times before deciding which pass to play, proper prem cms last night dominate him and lokonga

You replied to me talking about my take on him last night, I’m not bothered about what he has done rest of the season, I just think last night he was average and a proper team would of made him look like a player that only Luton took a chance on.Terry Cochrane wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:39 amAm not talking about just last night and not withstanding Brownhill and Cullen allowed him the room to play ( agree) he has been superb all season. Same can be said for Townsend. So many people said we should have signed him but last night Townsend was so poor

No I wasn't I was replying to your comment that if he plays against decent midfielders he doesn't look as good. Have merely told you that there is no evidence that what you say is true. And yes Andros Townsend was poor last night.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:42 amYou replied to me talking about my take on him last night, I’m not bothered about what he has done rest of the season, I just think last night he was average and a proper team would of made him look like a player that only Luton took a chance on.

Re: Ross Barkley
Barkley is a top class player and has been since he broke on the scene. Adapted his game now to play deeper but is really effective.
