Subs

Bringing Cork on after they scored ?? We wanted a goal not a draw.

JBL didn’t stop the cross.

4 wingers on the bench and none trusted to work back.

Taking defensive minded JBG off to go to 5 at the back but then going more attacking with Tresor and Larsen was very odd

Surely zaroury and benson instead of Tresor and Larsen would of given us more opportunity to get the ball in Luton’s half faster

The subs have been awful all year I can’t recall any of them since August that has made an impact on the game.

In the minority it seems but I felt the 5 at the back switch worked quite well, stopped their diagonals (main threat) to the wing backs and meant we could have 3 cb’s in the middle for their crosses. We defended resolutely and absolutely fine. Unfortunately we got robbed by the ref.

This. Opposite to last season when Kompany would change both wingers and it would regularly kill teams off.

The 5 at the back worked fine although we were a bit less effective as an attacking force.

The real problem was the late change. Brunn Larsen and Tresor had no chance of getting up to the pace of the game because we didn't have the ball (not that Tresor really tried) and it just ceded initiative to Luton. Amdouni and Odobert both needed off but probably 10 minutes earlier, and arguably bringing Cork on to hold with Cullen and freeing up Brownhill, or putting Jay up top with Foster playing from the left, might have been a better bet. We just lacked game sharp players in that midfield area.

5 at the back was the right thing to do. The two late subs were not.

We used to see games like that out under Dyche partly because we didn't make subs, despite many people clamouring for them. The players on the pitch are deep into the game, they know what they're doing and anyone coming on isn't going to be up to speed in that short space of time.

Another example of this was the home defeat against
West Ham. At one-nil up, with not long to go, we should have fairly easily closed the game out, but then came the baffling late subs and the rest, as they say.....

Inability to close out games from winning positions is going to be the theme for this season along with bizarre substitutions.

Bringing a winger on in the dieing minutes to hold on to the win and then bringing on Cork when we desperately need to respond to the goal. Maybe putting Cork on instead if Tresor might have been better.

Ended up with 11 right footed players on the pitch at the end.
18 pts now given away from winning positions

Vinny seems to tinker for the sake of it. I can’t remember many substitutions this season that have had a positive impact on our performance or result.

Well that's fairly obvious considering how few decent results we've actually managed 😀

He hates making the obvious changes which is frustrating. Cork for Amdouni, maybe Rodriguez for Foster is all that needed doing. Sureing it up with fresh legs and 2 experienced heads that could both mark at set pieces. Its not rocket science but VK seems to think it is.
