We’re as good as down, Kompany is clueless, we have gone backwards
We are supposed to be this brilliant passing football team who play exciting football,we just got dominated in possession against Luton who have played the most long balls in the league and are known to lump it and be physical.
They had 61% possession to our 39%.
The players we brought in are nowhere near up to Premierleague standard, he still doesn’t know his best team or his best formation, he doesn’t change things, we have no chance.
We can’t defend corners, we can’t hold on to leads, we are boring to watch.
We have gone backwards MASSIVELY from last season. Iv said it before I’ll say it again last seasons team hammers the current one.
We have no identity at all, atleast if Muric was playing we could try play the way we did last season. The recruitment has been so poor we have wasted a lot of money on rubbish players.
Can they just relegate us now ? We need a miracle

Thought we were dreadful, even if we see that out.
Dominated at home against Luton, it's pretty shocking considering the gap we had over them last year.

So you think that performance was acceptable against a team we finished 21 points above last season ?
That first half was up there with the Cotterill 19 game winless run performances.
We looked like a Sunday league team playing against Brazil.

Luton have caused plenty of teams problems all season - we created plenty of chances tonight including JBG’s early and should have been out of sight. Yes we sat back, but they created nothing other than their “goal”.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:18 pmThought we were dreadful, even if we see that out.

Similar chances, Luton dominating the ball* should I say.
We finished 21 points clear of them last season btw - if that isn't an indication of whatever the loving hell our summer window was then I don't know what is

Similar chances? They created nowt. Zip. Referee makes the right call and it’s a good 1-0 home win with key players out and half fit players in the 11, against a fully fit Luton team.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:23 pmSimilar chances, Luton dominating the ball* should I say.

We look absolutely useless.
People are scared to change. They were scared to move away from Dyche. Now there scared to move away from Kompany. Football moves on.
The only certainty right now is this is not good enough and hasn't been all season after significant investment.

We are not Premier League standard but Luton were not a bad side last year they got a draw in the corresponding fixture last year and we were under the cosh and Barnes got us a win at Luton ..we were lucky to win at Luton earlier in the season ..so why we are being arrogant and disrespectful to them i do not know...it was a fair result
Re: We’re as good as down, Kompany is clueless, we have gone backwards
Should have absolutely had 2/3.
JBG’s chance.
Zeki’s goal.
Foster’s simple pass through to Zeki 2nd half.
That’s just top of my head.
How many games with Dyche did we have 2 shots on target and two goals - we aren’t clinical enough.

Keep seeing the word dominated on all these threads and not sure what it actually relates to?
Yes they had a lot of possession, but what did they actually do with it? No meaning ful chances to speak of and we even defended corners well. Ekdal looked encouraging in at Centre half.
Barkley was good, but he was limited to one shot which was comfortably saved, and pinging long diagonals to their winger, who given the difference of formation, was always in acres.
What did he do with it then? Nothing. After shaky first 10 mins, Al Dakhil played him well.
I thought we defended resolutely, block and put bodies on the line when necessary. Adebayo is a handful for his size, but an awful footballer, and we dealt with him well in picking up the loose balls.
I'm not Traffirds biggest fan but he claimed and punched very well all night, and was on course to continue it before he was impeded.
Remember we had a few out through injury and a few that had put a shift in without the ball and ended up looking like they were towing caravans.
Personally I'd have brought on both Cork and Rodriguez for their experience and size, plus Foster was running on empty.
It wasn't brilliant, but with the likes of Berge missing who has recently been our most effective player at both ends of the pitch, it wasn't as terrible as some are making out.

Luton created FA ?,so why did Trafford make some cracking saves ,and why did Luton have half a dozen corners in the 1st half ,apart from a 20 mins spell after we scored they ran us silly.

We're as good as down - no. It'll be damn hard but it's not over yet.
Kompany is clueless - no. Look back at last season. There's definitely a great coach with a clue. He and the board with the level of player turnover may have bitten off more than they can chew this season. But far from clueless.
We have gone backwards - yes possibly. Let's hope it's a case of short term pain for long term gain.

Re: We’re as good as down, Kompany is clueless, we have gone backwards
The problem fo rme is Kompany has completely lost his way in terms of style and what hes trying. Hes done the logical thing and gone more conservative etc but is now playing a quite passive direct 442, that just isnt Vincent Kompany. Its like Dyche coming in and playing short passes across his own 6 yard box.
How can he get the message across that this is how he wants to play when last season he was adamant that his style was playing out from the back. I think hes getting completely lost tactically, hence the random change to 5 at the back. Im starting to think hes manging with his ego slightly too much aswell, he could have left it exactly as it was and seen that game through quite comfortable but he wanted to make his mark on it. Dyche was the absolute master of not tinkering too much with subs much to the fans annoyance at times but that was exactly what was needed tonight. Maybe Cork or Jay on for Amdouni and thats about it.

All his saves were sound but they weren’t from good chances. Corners doesn’t mean they created, in fact I felt we handled their set pieces, given the accuracy of them and size difference, really well.

Re: We’re as good as down, Kompany is clueless, we have gone backwards
I genuinely don’t think it’s a question of being disrespectful to Luton. It’s more that they’re being used as a measure of how we are doing this season.wbfc wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:27 pmWe are not Premier League standard but Luton were not a bad side last year they got a draw in the corresponding fixture last year and we were under the cosh and Barnes got us a win at Luton ..we were lucky to win at Luton earlier in the season ..so why we are being arrogant and disrespectful to them i do not know...it was a fair result
We were head and shoulders above them last season. During the summer, we spent a significant amount of money, whilst they spent a little and quite astutely.
They’ve adapted to this league far better than we have, they don’t get turned over, they look more cohesive and they’re an example of the benefits of keeping a team together - it might not keep them up but they’re making a better fist of it than us and I reckon they’ll be in a financially stronger position than us, should they be relegated.
Our summer spending was madness and scattergun - unfortunately most of the billets landed on the wings.

We have totally underestimated the requirements of the PL, and to make it worse we are learning but not quick enough. By contrast Luton who finished well below our points total last season have less quality players but Edwards has adapted to what is needed to fight in the PL

Actually find it quite sad to see the team we had with quality and swagger be reduced to this through some horrendous recruitment in the summer. Disjointed, no cohesion and constant chopping and changing of players on the bench and in the team. Honestly can’t wait for this season to be over it’s been largely an utter shambles.

It was as bad a managerial performance as I've seen. The team, the tactics, players not looking like they had ever met. The subs. Thinking Cullen and Brownhill could play as a two in the prem.
He is between Brian Laws and Chris Waddle in the manager ratings at the minute.

Completely agree. If he’s bought in to the project to go down and back up then we should go with him. Depending how many players we lose we could break the points record next season and we’ll be much better for it the year after.
