"But we cannot tell you the date".

Just Masters in front of the MPs trying to look like he is doing things to show football doesn't need an independent regulator.

it will be towards the end of the year I would think, there will be literally hundreds of thousands of pages of documentation, possibly millions to wade through around this case and it will likely run for a few weeks and any judgement will then take a long time to determine and document - then there will be an appeal.

The PL won't want to hurt their poster boys. The right thing to do would be to strip them of titles won via cheating but we all know it won't happen.

this is football's last chance to call Manchester City to account, if the Premier League are taking the necessary time to get everything right and avoid all possibility of rejection of charges on technicalities then I am fully supportive of that fact because we know that it is these very technicalities that have so far seen Manchester City avoid the judgements that they were due

I love how City fans, when you bring this up. Ask you to name one rule they’ve broken?

Then just accuse you of jealousy.

I seem to recall seeing an article years ago when this issue raised its head, saying that if City were ever charged they would deploy a legal challenge on a scale that would tie the authorities up in paperwork for decades. This is possibly the reason the PL have held back from making any charges. Better to attack those who do not have the financial muscle to deploy such a challenge. God help Burnley if we ever had the temerity to transgress the rules!

Just imagine if the Government appoint a regulator.
The top PL teams would have a field day. Absolutely nothing would get done.

Couple of points on this:

1. Is there any need for hundreds of thousands of pages, or is that an attempt to "hide" the incriminating evidence amongst it?

2. If City have sold players with buy-back clauses (as has been rumoured with Trafford) to circumvent financial rules, where do the buying clubs stand on assisting their cheating?

I don't think this is against the rules, teams have been doing it for years. Villa have done the same with Ramsey.

I think this became more prevalent with clubs as they looked to circumvent the limitation on loans out, rather then the FFP rules, essentially stoping the player farming Chelski were doing not so long ago.

The documentation side is the curse of the modern world - I saw last week that a planning application for a new Thames crossing consisted of 398,000 pages in documentation.

The documentation in the city case will come from:
City who have a huge legal team from multiple practices (probably from across Europe, will contain records from previous hearings on similar charges and lots around the Rui Pinto case - it was his hacks that led to the 'Football Leeks' scandal that have helped culminate in these charges,. there will be lots of previous rulings on cases where similar evidence use rulings have taken place, plus considered discussion/opinion from across the legal teams - it goes on and on. Not forgetting that there have been multiple, unpublicised High Court judgements about these charges and their relevance brought about by city who have sought to prevent, obstruct and delay the investigations for years.

The same will come into play from the Premier League and even the Commission appointed to hear and provide judgement on the charges.

Just as in other areas of the law, particularly commercial law, the prospect is often that the richest party will win the day, but occasionally actual justice prevails.

They have more money and better lawyers and don't want to look like they have been cheating, slapped wrist at best, and lots and lots of legal fees they will claim back.

Must be quite a few, it's taking a while to peel them away.

The documentation will be City's internal documents including all the contracts they've signed with other parties and everything else that makes up City's accounting records. Barristers don't need to disclose documentation re other court judgements that they argue provide precedent to determine that City's actions were according to the relevant regulations. Court judgements will already be documented and available to both parties to reference, as and when required during the hearings.
