PL Winter Break - Burnley plans

Post by pauliopaulio » Sat Jan 20, 2024 11:18 am

Does anyone know what the first team squad is using this winter break for? Warm weather training, Barnfield sessions, time off?

Checked on here and the club site but couldn’t see any news

Vinny said in a recent press conference that the players would get a week off.

Think they’ve gone to a specialist training camp to work on how to take throw ins and free kicks.

Let’s hope they’re there for the full two weeks

The players have plenty of pictures on their socials of sunny places.
A week recharging will do them the world of good.

They should’ve chipped in for the fans to go on holiday instead.

Red letter day experiences for most of them.

Extra training after the Luton fiasco would have been more appropriate

I think it’s just what they need, get away from the surroundings at the club for a week and come back refreshed.

The lack of communication from thr club these days really is a shame. There used to be club interviews with Dyche and a player or two every week along with other behind the scenes stuff that kept us in the loop.

We use to get snippets from the training ground so wed get to know the players as people which helped build that link, now theres hardly a thing. I wouldnt have a clue who the jokers are or who the leaders are etc. Its pretty poor, never thought id say it but bring back Daz Bentley

I'm outraged that we don't have a detailed holiday itinerary for every player.

It’s a very fair point about communication. I have noticed that of our foreign speaking overseas players only Berge and Beyer are ever put forward for interviews, even in house ones, apart from when signing. Not even a careful, edited and sanitised in house one. Koleosho did one of those cheeky in car ones but he is English as first language, They are never interviewed on Sky etc. Stars like Foster (special case probably), Amdouni, Odobert, Tresor,, Vitinho etc.

That creates a problem getting fans to bond with these players. A shame for kids in particular. Any coincidence the ones some moan about for not trying are some of those in this group? If we hear their thoughts, we hear their stories, we often get behind them.

I do wonder whether this is the elite club mentality VK has come from, shielding the players from all and sundry. Not sure it works to be honest, maybe the players feel that distance too and struggle to perform? Maybe the real elite players at a club like City can perform stood on their heads so it doesn’t matter? I’m not one of these who think “it doesn’t feel like Burnley any more”, I find those comments frustrating, but in that sense, it doesn’t.

Anyway, it made me ponder it. Not fussed about hearing of holiday plans btw, not my point. But we should have had a 5 min clip with VK talking about how they are making the most of the break, some padding so we don’t all lose interest and move onto other things this month.

Yep and those car ones were more promotional videos if i remember rightly. They were also horrifically cringeworthy, that new media guy thats popped us for us this season is god awful.
I agree with your point about the players being moaned about also. What do we know about Mike Tresor really, i don't even know what he sounds like. Just the basic interviews about giving it all for the shirt and the club etc are quite important when you're being accused of being a lazy b*stard. They might get a bit more leeway if we knew the slightest thing about them. It just gives the impression of not caring, which probably isn't the case.

Its nothing to do with the holiday plans themselves as our intelligently challenged friend suggested, it's just another noticeable lack of communication that has become a feature of this season unfortunately.

Sorry for sort of staying on topic and not finding an opening to have a go at the club.

Remember I think it was towards the end of Stan’s tenure, the first team squad went for warm weather training at La Manga. Following Saturday we were beaten 4-0 at Highfield Rd and we were fortunate it was only 4. one of the players a few years later said we would go for a run on the beach in the morning and then on beer for the rest of the day.

I suspect those with simple basic English wouldn't start everything with 'Yea, No' :?
