Re: Klopp to leave
Probably deserved a few more league titles after competing against City's financial doping/cheating.
Xabi Alonso should probably be their first choice given the job he's doing at Leverkusen.

Re: Klopp to leave
Hilarious! He won the 2 biggest trophies available to win for a club . The Champions league win came in 2019 and had nothing to do with covid.
Re: Klopp to leave
And the year they won the league they absolutely blew City away up until COVID hit.

Why was COVID more of an advantage to Liverpool than any other team?

Re: Klopp to leave
They did yes. Klopp got scared every time he went in the tunnel. Kept seeing Dyche out of the corner of his eye and that fear spread to the team.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 3:18 pmWhen we won there during covid didn't they then go on to lose a few home games on the bounce think even Everton won there

Re: Klopp to leave
Kloppy has stayed longer than usual. Previously he stayed 7 years as Manager.
Re: Klopp to leave
Mainly due to covid
Maybe if City had played by the rules he'd have won more titles, Fergie won all those titles without reaching higher than 91 points, klopp did it 3 times and only one one title. City have been unparalleled but looks like they also cheated other clubs out of a fair competition.
There is resentment on here probably because he's been not so nice when we've played them, but you can't deny the achievements and impact he's had on Liverpool and English football.

Re: Klopp to leave
I am not a fan of either Klopp or Liverpool and I think that they may make the perfect couple whining about anything that doesn't go their way courting sympathy from anyone who is willing to listen. You can also file Ferguson/Man Utd and Wenger/Arsenal in the same category.
That doesn't mean that I cannot admire and respect what he has done with Liverpool over the last 6 years or so. They have also done it an era when the odds of winning the title were massively stacked against them due to the cheats from The Etihad.

Re: Klopp to leave
Well he’s done well in his time there so going out at the top isn’t a bad time to go is it.
Re: Klopp to leave
Spent most of the past year or two moaning at every opportunity. I get it's a pressured job but you'd imagine working in football for millions upon millions upon millions in the bank account would keep you somewhat jovial.

Re: Klopp to leave
Really liked him when he was at Dortmund and first came over but his seemingly constant whinging has made me dislike him somewhat. That being said he’s been a fantastic manager and the standard of the league will likely be weaker without him - depending on how long Pep stays then city will dominate more than they do already. The type of manager you’d run through a wall for, tactically astute and an excellent operator in the transfer market.

Re: Klopp to leave
An absolute focused winner (and you may say whiner)
Do I like his media persona? Nope.
Do I rate his football? Yes
Would I want him managing my team, with a focus on winning? Yes
Do the people I know who have worked with him like him as a man and his persona away from football - yes, apparently he's a very good and generous man

Re: Klopp to leave
Although I dislike Klopp and his annoyingly shiny teeth, I’d have preferred him to stay at Liverpool a while longer. He’s a big character and good value. I love the premier league having the best managers.
Was hoping Mourinho or Nagelsmann would go to Newcastle and then we’d have a pretty amazing set.
Anyway, will get pelters for this but if I were Liverpool I’d go for Mourinho on a 2 yr deal. I think when a massive character like Klopp leaves you need another. Mourinho would do well with that group - likes a team that can defend well and hit on the counter. It’s a team that is getting older at the core, and he’d get the best out of them… then replace him with a younger manager after transitioning from Klopp.

Re: Klopp to leave
As far as I recall, Ferguson wanted Moyes as his successor. Ironically it was the signing of a Belgian player, Marouane Fellaini, that came to epitomise his failure.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 11:34 amHe did and there's nothing to suggest that's going to happen right now.
There are six degrees of separation in there somewhere if you squint hard enough.

Re: Klopp to leave
Stevie G, eh?
They might as well hire Stevie Wonder.
Re: Klopp to leave
He's barely won anything
Ove the course of his time there he's won
1 Prem League
1 FA Cup
1 League Cup
1 Champs League
Alex Ferguson did that over the space of a week or so
Mourinho is far superior, as is Pep
Retiring as he's nackered - Ferguson kept it up for 20 odd years
3 league titles, 1 chapps league a a couple of cups
No denying he's a good manager, but he's not even in L'pools top 3 of all time
