New pitch and new toilets apparently from what they've made today - just shows what a difference it can make to a club at that level, and with the TV money too.claretburns wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 3:39 pmIf you offered them Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd or Newcastle away I think they'd snap your hands off. Semi-pro club, the money would make a massive difference. Currently 5th in NLS and pushing for promotion, this run might allow them to sign a couple of players in the last few days of the transfer window.

Luton once again pushing the boundaries ( literally) for scoring controversial goals. Clearly they have their own rules

Today’s game was one of those draws that you would have initially have been disappointed about.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 3:30 pmI wonder what they will see as a great fixture. They are not going to get the 'easy home game' scenario so I expect they might be looking for a trip to a big ground to make some more money out of it.
Not a “big” team at a new stadium for a good day out, and not realistically at team that you’d expect to get anything from
Hindsight is a good thing though

Same at half time. Inane questions when all the manager wants to do is get in to see his players and prepare for a 2nd half leading 1-0. Madness.

Yeah surely they will want a Chelsea, Man Utd or Liverpool away to get the most out of it.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 3:30 pmI wonder what they will see as a great fixture. Mellon was a sub on 61 minutes and got an assist on 62 minutes.

Good start for Mellon

He didn't come on until the 61st minute and might end up man of the match.

I watched City cut Spurs open at will last night and thought if they play like that against us it could be embarrassing then I watched Maidstone beat Ipswich i thought if we get some of their luck and play with their second half spirit we might at long last end our abysmal record against City or is that just wishful thinking!

Re: Todays football
Think Mellon could be an option for us next season if (when) we go down to the Champ - maybe a player in rotation/bench option?
Re: Todays football
Definitely seems to have something about him. I'd like to think we'll be having a good look at him in pre season with a view to him being part of our squad.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 5:12 pmThink Mellon could be an option for us next season if (when) we go down to the Champ - maybe a player in rotation/bench option?

Seems to have the physicality for it, which sometimes is lacking at that age (Lewis Richardson). Kasey McAteer has featured in / started majority of Leicester games this season, was on loan in League 2 last season.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 5:12 pmThink Mellon could be an option for us next season if (when) we go down to the Champ - maybe a player in rotation/bench option?

Accy Stanley take the points with a 1-0 win at Forest Green to spoil Steve Cotterills first game.

Re: Todays football
I think if you can score regularly at any level (within reason) you can have success - look at Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy, Billy Sharp even Grant Holt types
If you're anywhere near a 1 in 2 sort of player in the top 4 divisions/SPL I think you can have success in the Champ for sure
Interesting - didn't realise that! Could be a good 'n for us!

I wouldn't get to excited about Mellon, I reckon anyone they can make money on they will.
Re: Todays football
Bill williams was saying that they believed that their cup run would probably net them about £400,000 on local radio yesterday. I'm guessing that he was assuming that there was no replay -, and certainly hadn't accounted for another round.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 3:30 pmI wonder what they will see as a great fixture. The glamour tie would probably have been arsenal away or Tottenham away, but with them (and gillingham) already gone, then it would probably be Chelsea or man u away. Chelsea is easy to get to. Man u have some historical links through Chris smalling, and, before that, David sadler who both started out at Maidstone.
Wouldn't want Wrexham away. The memory of the racecourse ground is the 4-2 defeat where Mark beeney was stupidly dropped and that loss eventually stopped a very good stones side from getting automatic promotion.

fulham vs newcastle
why are clive tyldesley and lee dixon trying to convince themselves that that goal should have been disallowed for a handball?

Re: fulham vs newcastle
The 'guidelines' change so often it's hard to keep track.
To my knowledge, if the ball accidentally strikes the arm of an attacking player and it directly results in a goal, it will be disallowed.
So they're probably right?

it's certainly hard to keep track of why lee dixon has a job.
Re: fulham vs newcastle
I thought the rule was if a handball leads directly to a goal then it's a free kick, whether it was intentional or not? Looked handball to me.

dougcollins, above, has it how I know it. However it was Rob Jones at Stockley Park so who would know?
Re: fulham vs newcastle
Rob Jones on VAR so if he gave the goal it should have probably been ruled out.

Can I imagine Manchester City having 38 attempts at goal against just 2 for the Clarets with us winning the game 1-2?Tackler49 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 5:08 pmI watched City cut Spurs open at will last night and thought if they play like that against us it could be embarrassing then I watched Maidstone beat Ipswich i thought if we get some of their luck and play with their second half spirit we might at long last end our abysmal record against City or is that just wishful thinking!
