Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett v Arsenal
The guy looked over-promoted and out of his depth today. I don't think the problem is so much as his ability as a referee as the modern day premier league footballer's ability to be cheating constantly from the off and constantly undermining every single decision that a referee has to make, in every way possible.
He ostensibly looked like he'd lost control in the second half when two players weren't booked for kicking the ball away but the truth is that the players knew he wasn't in control from the very first minute when he allowed grey haired wotshisface to hold up the game for a minute because he was (correctly) not given a free kick.
The ref should have been yelling "play on!" to us at that point, the player had no business being on the ground.
It's also worth pointing out that he hasn't had any bearing on the result today.
It's going to take a lot of cards and bans for referees to regain authority, especially in the top flight.
A. 12
B. 8
C. 19
D. 7 (if he were refereeing *reasonable* people he'd probably manage perfectly fine but sadly the refs lost control and authority years ago)

Blew up as quickly as possible for every Arsenal decision. Every guess went to Arsenal. Walked around the centre circle and had no idea what was going on. Useless.

Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett v Arsenal
That's a clear foul on Ramsey and he's ended up badly hurt. That's god awful refereeing at this level. Plus (as mentioned above) kicking the ball away when a free kick is awarded is a yellow card, but only in the first half it seems, which is weird!

Clueless. Shows the standard of refereeing in this country when someone like this is able to make it to the top.

Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett v Arsenal
He really is a dreadful ref. No bearing on today's result, of course, but he displayed his total ineptitude within 2 minutes of the game allowing a free kick to be taken 15 yards ahead of where it should have been and then waiting for the, dreadfully injured, cheating Arsenal player to tie his frickin laces before play restarts. That set his tone of uselessness way before the challenge which has, seemingly, broken Ramsey's leg. He needs to get himself back over to Aus quick sharpish as he ain't the fab ref he believes he is.

How on earth could a tackle that saw Ramsey taken off on a stretcher be called a 'good' tackle?

Truly shocking and made all the more worse as it should have been a dead easy game to referee.

I watched it live and on replay, it was crap.
And I've watched the non contact penalty live as well.

An appalling ref totally out of his depth who blew the instant any Arsenal fell over. My instinct live was the pen was a dive over a planted leg (not allowed using the convention this season). That ended the game as a contest. I know the big clubs have fixed this league by ensuring the rules and interpretation over a decade or more stop any challenge at stopping their flair players, but even allowing for this Gillett got loads wrong.

The guy never touched Ramsey ,he hurt himself as he avoided the tackle, probably got his studs stuck in the turf.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 5:47 pmThat's a clear foul on Ramsey and he's ended up badly hurt. The pan was never a pen. Gillette got conned by Trossards shriek. Don't think the lino gave it either. Assignon pulled out at the last minute, god knows why that didn't get overturned

Ok. I need to see it again, but at the time it definitely looked like the first "tackle" was a fail and the second "lunge" caught Ramsey badly and wasn't deemed a foul. I'll need to double check. Fair enough.

The absence of contact doesn't mean it isn't a foul, of course - any more than the mere presence of contact means it is a foul. As you rightly say Ramsey was injured attempting to avoid the cynical attempt to bring him down.

Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett v Arsenal
Couldn't go yesterday so only seen the MOTD highlights. That penalty decision is the epitome of everything that is wrong with referees, var and the overall state of officiating games at this level.
Perfect opportunity to call out blatant cheating, make an example of it and get a shred of integrity back to the refereeing profession but they'd rather cover their backs and let the cheats continue to take the **** out of them, week in, week out. Really looking forward to being out of this joke league.

Useless as ever. Every time they threw themselves on the ground, it was a foul in his eyes.
I thought the penalty was a good decision at the time, but I based that on the scream that Trossard let out as he went to ground. Having now seen it on TV several times, it really makes me wonder what the point of VAR is.

Just there to ensure Arsenal got through it all OK.

Difficult one to mark.
In real time, I thought it was a penalty, seeing it back it was very soft - not a chance it would be given at the other end by VAR. A daft challenge though, a bit like El Dakhil at Newcastle.
The foul on Ramsey I thought in real time was more of a coming together - it certainly wasn't a horror tackle, but it was a foul on seeing it again.
The booking / non-bookings for kicking the ball away are more of a reflection of the ongoing inconsistencies in refereeing generally.
Overall, did his decision making impact on the outcome of the game - absolutely not.

Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett v Arsenal
I liked how Arsenal got a free kick near the corner flag, the defender moved it infield by about 15 yards, then the keeper took over and moved it a further 10. Ref not interested.
Trafford tried moving a free kick ten yards forward and the ref tells him to go back.
He certainly knows the score, no future for him if he upsets the big clubs.
