Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
Trafford – 5 – doesn’t inspire confidence. Could maybe do better with the penalty and the 3rd goal. I’ve defended him but Muric now till season end for me.
Assignon – 6 – a bit unlucky with the pen but shouldn’t have dived in.
O’Shea – 6 – one of the better players but terrible on the last goal.
Esteve – 5
Delcroix – 3 – should be nowhere near the starting line-up. Incredibly managed to look more uncomfortable at centre-half than left-back. The attention and effort for the last goal is abysmal.
Odobert – 6 – we offered precious little but what we did came thru him
Brownhill 3 - Cullen/Cork must come in. At fault for the crucial first goal and then at best was on the fringes all afternoon.
Berge – 5 – overrun
Ramsey – 3 – I hope he’s ok but he shouldn’t be starting and everyone other than VK can see it. Another “assist” for the opposition.
Amdouni – 3 – you get what you get. Typical Amdouni performance. Not sure why anyone is expecting any different any longer. Pure passenger.
Fofana – 6 – at least gave some effort and energy
JBG – 6 – better than what we had.
JRod – 5
Taylor – 6 – has to start.
Unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. You knew from the opening line-up we were going to be up against it and after 4 mins the game was over. Everyone knew it.
I’m not going to keep defending VK when he keeps picking Amdouni, Brownhill and especially Ramsey. Maybe add Trafford to that. He keeps making the same mistakes week in week out.
Yes it was Arsenal but we surrendered. That’s the kicker.

3s and 4s all round. Pick a player and stick one of those two numbers next to them.
At least Vitinho did more in his first couple of minutes on the pitch than the rest did all game.
Shambolic.

Left at 3-0 so I'll just say all players either 3 or 4, doesn't really matter.

After a structured and relatively okay first half (pen aside) the second half was unacceptable. We have had a knack, all season, of conceding goals at bloody awful times (just before HT, just after HT).

My heart dropped when I saw the lineup. Trying to go with 3 attacking players who don’t put any effort in again is mind boggling.
If Kompany from his newly elevated position can’t see we’ve got a captain who actively hides from the ball then we have a bigger problem than it appears.
A truly woeful performance all round today.
There is no shame in being beaten by a better side as long as you put a shift in. And we certainly didn’t.

Cant be bothered going into why. If thats the best they'll muster I'm not putting in more than that. One of the worst most gutless performances I've ever seen from a Burnley side. At least when we got thumped 5-0 under Coyle it was sheer attacking naivete and being outclassed (also away). We were terrible but didn't look so..nothing. Cannot see any reason not to make major changes and just give some lads a try until the end of the season, we're 100% down and there's nothing to lose. It cannot get worse than that.

From tv
Trafford 4 Muric please, just to try and give me a lift.
Assignon 6 tried at least
O'Shea 5 championship at best
Esteve 5 looked shell shocked
Delcroix 4 not a lb, never in right position
Ramsey 3 how much did we pay for him
Brownhill 3 he's not a leader
Berge 6* best of a f.ckin bad bunch
Amdouni 3 getting worse
Fofana 6 at least he ran about a bit
Odobert 4 typical of the players we signed in the summer, nowhere near PL standard
JBG 6 at least he made a couple of passes to Burnley players
Taylor 6 at least he is a recognised lb
Jayrod 4 he looked totally p1ssed off as their goals went in
No heart, no pride, no tactics, no f.ckin clue to be bonest.

Trafford 3 - this is becoming a sick joke now
Assignon 5 - showed a bit at least
O’Shea 4 - shite
Esteve 4 - shite
Delcroix 4 - shite
Ramsey 3 - wow
Brownhill 3 - absolute disgrace from our so called captain
Berge 5 - only one who showed anything in that midfield
Odobert 5 - got in now and again
Fofana 5 - showed some effort unlike a number of his team mates
Amdouni 3 - did he break sweat?
JBG 5
Taylor 5
Rodriguez 5
I would keep him for next season to sort this mess out but the credit has been utterly trashed and more illustrious managers have lost their job after performances like that.

Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
Can’t score because like thousands of fans I left when the 5th went in. The most spineless and inept performance for I don’t care to remember and we have had some shockers this season already. Most of those players and VK need to look in the mirror and question themselves after that today. We might as well have drafted in our U21’s to play against Arsenal today because those professionals who were wearing the Burnley shirt during the game are not fit to wear it.

Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
The worst thing of all for me is we went 1-0 down early and it didn't bother me, I didn't care and people who know me well enough will know that it's just not me to feel like that.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:02 pmHalf a dozen words around 'inept'. Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
Trafford - 6 - folk around me slating him for not moving the ball quick enough, but let's be right here, only the 2 centre halves ever want it! No chance with any of the goals.
Assignon - 5 - Got absolutely no help first half
O'Shea - 6 - At least he keeps going
Esteve - 5 - removed early again - carrying a knock?
Delcroix - 4 - More bad than good
Eamsey - 3 - never want to see a player strecthered off, but let's be right after yet another ansolutely rancid 45 minutes, he shouldn't have been on the pitch
Berge - 6 - On his own in that midfield
Brownhill - 3 - yet another absolutely appalling performance.
Odabert - 3 - couple of good moments first half but after that non existent
Amdouni - 3 - I'm sorry but the experiment has to end. Awful. Absolutely awful.
Fofana - 5 - Ran himself into the ground, needlessly.
JBG - 4 - couldn't stem the bleeding
Jay - 6* - a poor do when your 34 year old striker shows more desire putting a challenge in than the entire midfield did all day
Taylor - 5 - rusty
JBL - n/a - an utterly pointless substitution
Vitinho - n/a - see JBL
A shocking starting line up that was light weight and devoid of any phycial challenge. How Ramsey reappeared for second half is staggering. Crying out for another body in midfield which was completely over run, start to finish. Brownhill utterly non-existent, he needed pulling as well and got Cullen / Cork in there to at least bring a bit of fight to proceedings. The way the white flag went up second half was embarrassing. Why flog Fofana in a game that was completely gone after 46 mins - it was damage limitation time, and let's be right it should have been a lot, lot worse. If the starting line up was shocking, the finishing line up was utterly laughable.
We made a good side look like absolute world beaters - and I don't think they really got out of third gear. I don't know what VK is watching any more.

It might be growing old, but 64 years on from my first game I’m finding nothing to interest me on the pitch or from Pace’s Oval OfficeClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:11 pmThe worst thing of all for me is we went 1-0 down early and it didn't bother me, I didn't care and people who know me well enough will know that it's just not me to feel like that.

I will say that I actually thought we had an OK period in the first half between the two goals. But it was nothing spectacular. We just looked a bit more comfortable on the ball for a little while, without really creating anything with it.
Once the second goal went in it was an absolute car crash. It really felt like any scoreline was possible.
The starting line-up that was released at 2pm looked horrible on paper and was even worse on the pitch.

Didn’t want to go on, but dragged myself on, hate the premier league, and don’t feel any sort of connection to this team.
It’s just not a Burnley team and doesn’t have the sort of fight and team spirit we expect

Had a chat on Thursday with a lady I know at the gym who goes home and away. She said that it's beginning to feel like it's not my team anymore. I felt like that last season as well, and this season it feels completely alien.

O scores from me because I left at 4-0. If the team can’t do their job I can’t be a***d scoring them
Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
A poster a few weeks ago mentioned about not having any connection with the present team, last year we had Muric,Tella.Maatsen ,Barnes ,THB ,Taylor, and Cork ,a mixture of old and new ,and all seemed to know what to play for Burnley meant ,this year that feeling just isn’t there.

Anybody giving the same score to Brownhill and Berge need to get to Specsavers.
We only have 2 players that are trying. Berge and Oshea, the rest look lost.

At 1 point in the 2nd half, my son got up and shouted something, then sat back down and said "I don't know why I'm bothered". He loved VK and Pace too.

Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
Trafford 4 one good save but he’s a League 1 ‘keeper
Assignon 4 Exposed by one of the league’s best
O’Shea 5 he’s a limited, Championship defender
Estève 5 struggled all afternoon
Delcroix 4 OK
Berge 3 slow, ponderous and (worst of all) soft.
Brownhill 3 captain? Give me strength. Useless.
Ramsey 3 hope he’s ok but he’s miles off the required standard
Amdouni 3 actor
Odobert 5 bright but no service and no end product
Fofana 5 started well but faded
Gudmundsson 5 again made a difference. No idea how Ramsey gets picked ahead of him.
Taylor 5 says everything that it is good to have a player back that VK deemed not good enough for the Championship
Rodriguez 5 a Burnley player who actually looked like he cared.
VK 3 complete shambles. He’s not up to management in the Premier league. He’s signed and selects players who are worse than what we had last year. Muric, Benson, Cullen, Cork, JBG, Taylor, JayRod all on the bench. At least give them a try from the start. It couldn’t be any worse. But, worse than all that, he’s completely out of touch with what it is to be a Burnley player, what it is to be a Burnley fan and the connection between the two. I don’t know this team. They’re not a Burnley team to me. Players and managers always come and go but is fans and the club remain and will long after this shower of charlatans have gone.

Trafford 4 sets the tone most weeks
Assignon 4 struggled
Delcroix 3 not a left back
O’Shea 4 no help
Esteve 3 looked way off it
Brownhill 3 poor yet again
Ramsey 3as above
Amdouni 3 as above
Berge 3 poor today
Forfona 5 least showed a bit of effort and fight.
Subs 4
Seem to post the same most weeks in that there is a frightening lack of fight from the majority of these players almost like they haven’t looked at a league table since August.
The selection, formations, subs continue to baffle.
I can’t imagine a team with Muric, Cork, Cullen and Benson would have performed any worse than what we had to endure today.
Past caring what happens now for rest of this season it’s has been a shambles since the opening night.

Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
Thank **** I was in the corporates today. That was as bad as anything we’ve ever put out in all our time in this league. Arsenal are a world class team, but we didn’t even try. The lack of any response from anyone when the first goal in (no heads dropped, no bollockings being handed out - nowt) says it all. Team is going through the motions and plenty of these no hopers are almost certainly already preserving their bodies and plotting their exit routes out of Turf Moor.

Apart from Brownhill (3), the rest of them score 4.
Awful, absolutely awful. I want to see a team that scraps and fights for everything, playing for the badge on the shirt, 'minimum requirement is maximum effort' and all that. Fair enough, we are not going to compete 'toe to toe' with teams like Arsenal in terms of their technique, style and overall quality but at least let's make the Turf an awkward place to come to. Arteta complained a couple of seasons ago about the grass being too long on the pitch, I remember the games against Arsenal when they scored scruffy (and contentious goals in added time). Today they won at a canter. They really did. And the team doesn't feel like a Burnley team. I want VK to earn his stripes and get us back into the Prem, like Dyche did all those years ago, but we are so far off the pace it's untrue. We don't press, we don't make it awkward for opposing teams. Our attacking play is stifling and painful to watch. Go long, go direct - try something different. I can't stand the ponderous movement side to side when we try and move the ball forward. It's hard to watch this, it really is. But have said it on another post and I'll say it again, UTC. Because I want the club to do well. But am struggling to see the direction here and plan. Sorry for the rant. Needed to be done!

Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
Worst performance of the season. Looked like they had downed tools. Wouldn't shed a tear if any of these who played today left in the summer, bar JBG and Taylor
Trafford 3 no comment
Assignon 3 awful, that was never a pen though
O’Shea 3 calamity second half
Estève 3 didn't look fit
Delcroix 3 We seem to ship goals for fun every time this guy plays, get shut
Berge 4 least he looked like he half cared
Brownhill 3 urgh
Ramsey 3 awful again, hope his injury isn't too serious
Amdouni 3 lazy, needs a rest
Odobert 3 hid for most of the game
Fofana 5 only guy willing to put a shift in
Gudmundsson 4 at least he tried to keep possession
Taylor 4 rusty
Rodriguez 4 tried but that's it
All the good work from last season out of the window. Hopefully VK and the board learn from all this, but I'm really worried at this stage that VK is just a really average manager with a lot of pulling power.
His baffling decision to keep picking Trafford, poor signings, dismantling the togetherness from last season and lack of any real tactical plan are deeply concerning

Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
A very tough afternoon. I’ve certainly seen elite teams create more than Arsenal did today - for periods, particularly in the first half, we held our discipline well - but the simplicity of the chances when they came was alarming, as was the reaction to them.
Trafford - 6 - oddly had very little to do apart from pick the ball out of the net, although he may feel that on another day he’d have saved either or both of the penalty and third goal. Distribution in the first half was too pedantic at times.
Assignon - 4 - not very convincing generally. No idea what he was doing for Arsenal’s 5th and also suspect for the first and 4th (didn't do enough to make the cross difficult) and in both giving away the penalty and getting caught in the first place.
Delcroix- 4 - in his defence it’s rare a team don’t double up on Saka and this was an exercise in showing why. Comprehensively beaten for the third goal and not very impressive on the 2nd, 4th and 5th either.
O’Shea - 6 - credit to him for keeping going and scrambling well, but he has to be more vocal on the pitch. Will be disappointed by the 5th goal but he was not the main culprit and the game was gone by then.
Esteve - 5 - part of a defence that scrambled well enough in the first half but this was a chastening afternoon from which he and the staff will have learned plenty about him.
Berge - 5 - a couple of useful interceptions but lacked the tenacity at times to get close to Arsenal. Should be modelling himself on Rice who is a player of similar gifts but who is light years ahead in his dynamism, aggression and leadership.
Brownhill - 5 - I didn’t think he was as bad as some others did but there is no question that he’s not at his best right now and he wilted in the second half along with several others.
Ramsey - 5 - good luck to the kid and hopefully it isn’t as bad an injury as it looked. Thought he worked ok and covered pretty well, and showed glimpses of quality today, but he’s very raw.
Odobert - 5 - a few lively moments and our best outlet but miles away defensively and that gave us an issue with Saka.
Amdouni - 3 - let the side down badly in the first half. Generally anonymous and was guilty of coasting back into position for Arsenal’s first without any intent to get close to Odegaard. That set the tone, and in the Dyche era there is no doubting Barnes (for example) would have done more from the 10 position to track an opposing midfielder who was clearly the danger man.
Fofana - 5 - a good bit of huff and puff but no real openings and after a decent first 35 minutes in which he held the ball nicely and showed some useful 1v1 running his main contribution became getting caught offside needlessly.
JBG - 5 - a few nice touches but unable to protect Assignon any better than Ramsey.
Jay - 5 - at least won a tackle or two.
Taylor - 5 - won’t look on the 4th goal with any fondness.
Kompany - needs to reflect on how it was he picked a team with both Amdouni and Odobert in it against Arsenal. You can hide one non-defender but not two, particularly when others (notably Ramsey) are finding their feet defensively. We were crying out for an extra defender or defensive midfielder on the pitch and the error was tacitly acknowledged at half time. By then thought it was too late, and even then he’d have been better bringing a more defensive minded midfielder on to provide a bit more cover.
The first half was not, by my estimation that bad. The first goal was well worked by Arsenal and well taken, and other than Amdouni (and possibly Delcroix who didn’t line himself up to block the corner of the goal - these Dyche details matter) the team worked hard enough to get back into position and couldn’t do much to stop it. The second goal was also slick interplay. Otherwise we held Arsenal ok in that opening 45 - we didn’t create much but we held our discipline.
The second half was a different story and whilst again Arsenal created surprisingly little outside the goals, the manner of the goals and the way we capitulated was not acceptable. You shouldn’t be as careless defensively as we were for those 3 goals 3 times in a season, let alone a single half. The fact there were only 3 goals probably owed more to Arsenal declaring than any residual discipline from Burnley.
I think everyone needs to reflect and use this as a watershed. Certainly VK who must know he’s got the balance of the team badly wrong this season but needs to pick a team which acknowledges it more than he did today. Also the players who have to stand up and by counted - particularly OShea, Berge and Brownhill who are the most experienced players (a fault in itself and one that needs rectifying at Palace with Cullen and JBG starting to add experience and nous). But also the fans - there is a lot of disappointment and frustration, understandably, at how this season has panned out. But it is a very young team (too young) and it is likely that the core of it will be at the club next season and hopefully beyond. They are obviously struggling to do what is being asked of them. They need help from the staff but also the terraces, and I’m not sure the general sense of apathy and even hostility is helpful right now. We had bad days when we were well beaten by the elite teams under Dyche and the feel wasn’t so different today, particularly the first half.

Re: Burnley v Arsenal - Player Ratings
Im not rating that. It was absolutely abysmal.
But i will comment on Jay Rod. He showed every aspect of why he should be playing every week. Won every header which meant we could play over the press, worked his balls off and offered leadership in terms of constant communication that nobody else did.
