Home before the final whistle
Don’t think I’ve ever done that before (admittedly the 10 mins added time helped) but was already leaving as the 5th went in
That was dire today.
No I didn’t expect us to win, and conceding within 5mins didn’t help, what I do expect is the player to show some fight
Absolute shambles

I am on the 1702 train home and it's got loads of arsenal fans on it. The game was already wrapped up so they've made a dart to get home early.

Same for me. Left on 63mins. Not something I have done before, but was wet through, fed up and sick of watching Arsenal play unchallenged.

Stood and clapped them off.
Not claiming to be some sort of super fan but for me it’s not their fault they’re not at this level. And I’ll always support the boys regardless of performance or results.

First time since once in the dark days I have left before the end, the players then were awful but fought and one of my all time favourite Clarets was the manager and getting dogs abuse so thought it best to leave before it got really nasty. Today though I left on 83 minutes, I will always stay to the end and applaud regardless of the result but not today after that, spineless, cowardly and pathetic.
Re: Home before the final whistle
Not sure he came out for the second half. I think he managed to get a SplitSave deal home.

Re: Home before the final whistle
The Park View was packed on 75 minutes, which is unusual.
I’ve had enough of this season to be honest. I’m not mad at all, and speaking with fellow Clarets in the pub most are the same in that they’re just ready for next season.
Everybody just seems bewildered at the amount of money we’ve spent this year to not even be close to staying up. Yeah, we get the model, buy low and sell on, but the players we are buying I wouldn’t start in the Championship. Our recruitment team aren’t achieving a high enough percentage. Considering we walked the league last season it’s a bit depressing knowing we’ve gone backwards.

We left on 57 minutes with the injury. Hoping to get straight to the bar in the pub.
Ruby and Claret, Vintage Claret and Royal Dyche were all quite busy.
What are they doing to us?

Re: Home before the final whistle
First time I have left early since Man City beat us 6-0 in League One.
Mind you, I felt we were not as bad as many claim. Way short, but they were superb. The finishing was so good, playing a front five whenever they had possession was simply brutal. So hard to cope with and it wore us down by about 40 mins.
Us playing four attackers with no defensive nous against this side whilst having two raw new signings in defence was simply suicide though. We were trying to out-Arsenal Arsenal.

No I'm not but did anyone realistically expect us to get anything from the game? And of course people can leave when they want but why bother coming on here to tell us that, beats me! They are only expressing an opinion Pete, i have sat watching the Clarets in the dark days but at least there was a spine to some of those teams , this is a young team and in time could get better but throwing them all in the Premier league you asking for it as you need experienced players on the pitch to help them through these testing times not sat on the bench. No I wasn’t expecting us get anything from the game, but I also wasn’t expecting us to roll over and have our tummies ticked by them either.
Am I proud for leaving early? No, not at all.
If we looked like we were putting in some effort and still getting beat 5-0, I’d be there till the end, but not going to sit there watching us do nothing productive, then sit in the traffic bedlam of trying to get home afterwards

Re: Home before the final whistle
If folk are honest then no we didn't expect to get anything from the game, even though it's a shite argument.
What folk do expect is a bit of fight and even a little bit of organisation. We didn't see it and that coupled with 5-0 down is a recipe for leaving early.
I don't think the OP is one for 'look at me, look at me I've left early' stuff.
I think we're just all annoyed Pete.

I really cannot understand how football fans don’t understand the difference between the quality of the opposition in the premier league vs championship.
The team have not gone backwards, we’re just playing teams several levels better than anything we faced last year. We’re miles off this level but we’re well above championship level too. Comparing this and last years performances is like comparing apples and bananas.
On the spending point, I agree £96m is a huge amount for us. But you have to look at what the teams above us - Forest, Bournemouth, Everton, Brentford, Palace, etc - spent over the last 2-3 years. £96m is a pittance at this level.
Being easily beaten by any premier league side does not mean

We had one year out of this division and was in it for the past 6 seasons. We know exactly how tough it is.
We have a decent playing budget, factor in our spending the past 2-3 seasons and it's still a decent amount. What we spent in the summer for one window is not a pittance whatsoever.
Last year we blew teams away and were far too good for the Champ. This year we're nowhere near even PL level.
Something has gone very wrong - I'm bored of the excuse making, it's not good enough!

I also think that some of the signings this year are simply not premier league quality, yet. And I’d agree that Kompany and Pace need a long, hard review as to whether their strategy, tactics, etc were the best they could’ve been. They’ve let us down.
But that is not to say the team have gone backwards. Or we’re worse than last year. The opposition is a lot better and that’s why the results differ. And in any event, we basically still have all the key players from last season in the squad so it’s not like our overall squad has weakened. There’s nothing to cry about there.
And the whole £96m overlooks that Everton have spent €500m in the last 5 seasons or something, Forest €300m, Bournrmouth €250m.
£96m is pocket change at this level. We might’ve not spent it well but in any event it’s small beer to what even the small sides spend now.

Proper fagpacket maths all this, what it all boils down to is it isn't good enough and we have spent enough to be better than what we are right now.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 12:13 amI’m not making excuses, I’ve been saying for a long time we’re down and we are not Prem level at all.

Extrapolate our summer spend over 5 years and what is that? We've spent a heck of a lot under VK - he's been massively backed.
What we've spent is a significant amount, especially for us - even these loans with obligations in January will be a fair chunk (ok Assignon not likely to sign permanently)

I stayed until the end. Mainly because I didn't want to.go out into the rain.
Have left early on a few occasions this season which is something I have never done prior to this year but just not feeling connected to this team and startimg to lose patience with the manager as well now.

Re: Home before the final whistle
I disagree. It’s not fag packet maths, it’s taken from transfermarkt in terms of what they’ve spent vs us and our spend is a pittance compared to teams outside the relegation zone.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 12:18 amProper fagpacket maths all this, what it all boils down to is it isn't good enough and we have spent enough to be better than what we are right now.

- Fulham are a slight exception but even they are €68m last summer, €72m year prior. €140m in total.
- Palace €78m last year, €46m year prior. €124m total.
- Bournemouth €127m last year, €83m year prior. €210m over two years.
- Forest €320m over two years.
- Everton €118m in the last two years but €340m spent 18-22 so €460m over five years.
You mightn’t like it, because it doesn’t support your rhetoric but these are facts. We’ve spent a lot (for us) but comparative to those outside the relegation zone, not a lot over a few years.
Would I expect us to be closer? Yes. Do I think that spend might’ve been distributed differently? Yes (less signings, higher fees). But it’s like turning up at the casino with the high rollers. What seems a big stake to you really is the minimum bet.

Understanably some will be paying higher wages but you're making it out like we're a plucky Luton type which we're far from.
Our summer window was top-10 spend in the entire world for fees alone.
You're painting the picture that every club around us has 25 mill players in every slot - that simply isn't the case.
Last summer we sold a few/released that we had over a few seasons in the PL, but they still helped fund our promotion and decreased revenue streams.
Are you talking about net spend or what? I don't particularly understand what you're trying to get at, at all. VK has been backed, this is his strategy, these are his players. The book stops with him.

The thing is, the money we’ve spent has been on players being sold for potential profit, the other clubs spend has been on players as an immediate upgrade/improvement on what they already have

You don’t understand what I’m getting at? It’s really simple: the other teams around us, that are not in the relegation zone, have spent more than us over the last two years.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 12:58 amHow is what we have spent in anyway a pittance compared to those listed above?

Maybe not all more than us last summer but definitely over the last two. Thats no excuse, it’s just fact.
£96m is a lot to us, not a lot in the context of a PL squad.
I think all the teams above us have €20m+ players. Several in the main. We have none. I don’t really want to list them out but I will if you really don’t get it.
Note here, I am not talking about Sheff U or Luton as they’re in the bottom 3 with us and we need to be 17th so I’m explaining why we’re not - the teams above us have had more investment.
Re: Home before the final whistle
Jumping in here and I apologise in advance if I go off topic.
Imagine a line up of -
Muric
Roberts THB(£15m) Beyer Maatsen (£20m at start of window)
Cullen Brownhill
Berge (£12m)
Tella (£18m) Foster Koleosho (£3m)
That team absolutely wipes the floor with the current crop, keeps the majority of the team from last season and still has the likes of Benson, Zaroury, Jay, JBG, Cork for the experience and impact off the bench. Not to mention the considerable amount of money saved on the likes of Trafford, Ramsay, Tresor, Amdouni. If it didn’t work, at least we could then look back and say the team that got us there aren’t good enough, and in January we could have tweaked it a little, as opposed to the complete rebuild we endured in the summer, again.
The difficulty for me is the lack of consistency/transition from last season. The money we have spent, together with the performances on the pitch, added to the lack of loyalty shown in the players that got us here, it really feels to me that we are on a knife edge of spiralling out of control.
Assignon - who knows if he’ll stay
Esteve - probably won’t play in Champ next season
Taylor - probably leaves
Berge - deserves to stay in Prem
Ramsay - maybe has a clause he goes back to Villa on relegation, similar to Archer at Sheff Utd
Amdouni - won’t play in Champ
Odobert - our only profitable asset at present
Koleosho - if he gets fit before the end of the season could be sold for profit
Foster - as much as I rate him, he could move
Take all of them out of the team, we’re left with the majority of last seasons team. What’s to say those remaining will ‘play’ for VK again next year?
‘Look lads, I know you got us up last time we were in this division, I need you all to put another massive shift in, get us promoted again, then you’ll be on the bench again the following season in the Prem’
I would be seriously p!ssed off if I was Muric, Roberts, Cork, Cullen, Benson, Zaroury etc. None have had the minutes they deserve this season for getting us here and we can’t rely on them simply coming back in next season.
As for yesterdays game, I knew we wouldn’t get anything, hence I decided for a day out with the family instead, it’s the manner in which the goals are conceded and the lack of fight in this team.
For the rest of the season I’d be picking an 11 for the championship next season and get them gelling.

As for yesterdays game, I knew we wouldn’t get anything, hence I decided for a day out with the family instead, it’s the manner in which the goals are conceded and the lack of fight in this team.
For the rest of the season I’d be picking an 11 for the championship next season and get them gelling.

Re: Home before the final whistle
I stayed on until the final whistle, to avoid the crowds and the traffic.

Re: Home before the final whistle
We’ve got 8 years of premier league experience in the last 10 years…. Clubs have always had more expensive players, but in the main we’ve been competitive. This year, we’ve been totally uncompetitive all season.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 1:34 amYou don’t understand what I’m getting at? It’s really simple: the other teams around us, that are not in the relegation zone, have spent more than us over the last two years.
Dyches teams were too much substance over style….. this team is totally style over substance…. There is no substance to it, the money spent on individuals has not created a team.

Re: Home before the final whistle
I would say we still have all the key players from last year.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 12:13 amI’m not making excuses, I’ve been saying for a long time we’re down and we are not Prem level at all.
No maatsen, no tella, basically no muric, basically no cullen as he doesn't look up to it.

Re: Home before the final whistle
Oh, look at me. We are getting beat and I do not like it so I’m leaving the game early. I’m not staying to support the boys any longer. Then I’m going to tell everyone about the great achievement of getting home whilst the game was still playing. We have some muppet supporters. And for the record, anyone who leaves early because we are not playing well or getting beat are not true Burnley fans. True Burnley fans would stop and support them until the end.

I love threads like this. You can almost smell the smugness of some super fans .

Only cowards leave early.
