Everton v Palace

Bit of a non event so far. Pretty impressed with Adam Wharton so far, doesn't look out of his depth at all.

Strangely, if Everton fail to win this (which I doubt) then overall we had a good weekend, considering the opponents.

Palace really do look rubbish though. Must be saving it for Saturday…..

Needs a goal and can't say I'm too bothered about which net it goes in.

If Everton win, we're nine points adrift of them.

Everton to win for me as they will climb the table and out of sight
when they get their points deduction reduced by at least 50% in the
next few days.

Need to drag Palace down into the mire with us.

 They’re currently 12 points above us. They may end up in the mire with us but it certainly wont be to our benefit.

Palace haven't scored from the last 112 corners which means they are bound to get one on Saturday.

As good a manager as he is, I can’t see Dyche lasting much longer. As we’ve seen on this board of late, it’s very difficult to please the modern day fan and Everton fans are a tough crowd at the best of times.

Had to chuckle when they jeered Dwight for doing his usual turn back towards halfway when there was a chance to dribble forward.

I don’t miss the Dyche years one bit. Effective, and gets my thanks, but it wears thin after a few years and we needed a change. Just because this young team we have now hasn’t yet bridged the gap doesn’t change my view on this.

Low quality game, but Palace have had the better of it.

Not sure I get Sky punditry based around Palace adopting the “Red Bull” style of play, unless the suggestion is that McCarthy’s been preparing the team for the new manager whilst Roy’s been in hospital.

From what I read, they started hating him, warmed to him and are starting to turn again now.

In his strong favour is they probably can’t afford to sack him. 777 are keeping them alive and have a track record of big cost cutting at other clubs I’ve read, so a manager like Dyche who’ll do it on a shoestring will likely suit them, whatever the Everton fans say.

Glasner was clearly about to be named last Friday only for Roy to be taken ill.

Missed the first 17 minutes. I’d agree Palace better on the last 30.

Everton pretty toothless bar a DCL header from a good Dwight cross. Palace also a bit wasteful which means they’re saving them for Saturday probably.

Definitely looks lile Mcneils gone back into one of his quiet spells. Really easy to see when he loses confidence because he stops trying to drive forward on his left foot and starts turning back or coming inside.

I’d like to see him given a decent budget somewhere. It’s the only way we’ll find out if he’s wedded to this style of play or just a pragmatist.

To be fair, our style did start to evolve in that European qualification season before injuries to Defour & Brady. That coupled with Garlick pulling up the drawbridge meant we we never found out where it might have been headed.

The one time he was given a big budget in comparison to the rest of the division he was in he signed Joey Barton and Andre Gray and created the most direct team he probably had with us so i dont think youd ever see fluent football under him. Very good manager though.

Not watching this game, but Dyche has always gone back to basics when his team is flirting too close to danger. I think he’s being pragmatic and would no doubt have his side playing with a bit more freedom had they not had 10 points deducted. In fact, they were playing with that same freedom earlier in the season and creating lots of chances.

The first 7.5 years, yep. The last 18 months was arguably marginally better, but the comments on here after his final game were along similar lines to what’s been on here the last 48 hours - gutless players, tactical ineptitude, new manager needed etc.

Mcneil just ran his a** off in full sprint trying to press. Have you seen Tresor or Ramsey do that all year?

Top half finish in 2019/20, playing some good football and then he was stopped from refreshing his squad and got an injured Dale Stephens and Will Norris. It just all died from there really and went very stale.

The Everton fans I know are just enjoying a bit of stability and pragmatism under Dyche, particularly with the rest of the club still being so messed up.

Think that is a perfect description to be honest.

A great leader, calm head, gets a shift out of his team which most fans will take when things elsewhere are struggling.

As good as last season was, (and it was), my favourite seasons are either Coyle's or Dyche's first promotion.
I don't really know why, but I didn't find either title winning season as enjoyable as the others. I think I'd go Coyle, Dyche Runner Up, VK Champion, Dyche Champion.

It’s probably because they were both so unexpected. Dyche’s first promotion, it was almost like nobody wanted to admit to themselves how good we were. I kept expecting it to fall apart.

Both Championships were excellent but we probably expected to at least be challenging in those two. Although last season defied a lot.

They may be enjoying the pragmatism, but it’ll be 8 PL games without a win if they don’t get a result tonight. Since they beat us, in fact.
