Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
I can’t see us getting anything unless he plays 3 in central midfield.
We don’t defend from the front and having 2 in the middle leaves us wide open.
Wharton will have a field day if we only have 2 in there tomorrow.

Have to bring Corky on to sort him out like he did at Deadwoodhelmclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 9:58 pmI can’t see us getting anything unless he plays 3 in central midfield.

Baldrick could come up with a better cunning plan than the Burnley coaches at the moment.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 7:22 pmDo we have a formation, I haven't really seen one, at least not consistently, however we do seem to consistently change personnel, and consequently I just don't think anybody really knows where he wants them to play anymore.

Muric
Assignon O'Shea Esteve Taylor
JBG Cork Berge Cullen Odobert
Fofana
That team has at least a bit of the nous which we've so obviously lacked all season.
And Benson to get a proper chance from off the bench.
Same again seems more likely with the same outcome.

The pre match confidence before every game tells me we'll have learnt some lessons and we'll win today but then I think about the season and can see another daft team selections and poor performance.
I'd drop Amdouni today and go 3 in midfield, get Massengo or Cullen sat in behind Berge and Brownhill/JBG with Odabert left and Benson/JBL right with the freedom to push up and do their thing.
The season has to start today it's now or never Vinnie time to step up and show you've learnt these lessons you keep banging on about

Would love to see that team and push Berge on a bit. Possibly even JBL in for Odobert, but definitely Benny off the bench.what_no_pies wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 12:00 amMuric

Maybe the odd anomaly in results, but on the whole, the starting line up matters immensely.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 5:50 pmIt doesn't matter who you have in the starting line up if it's your day, it's your day.
Remember going to Leeds when we had terrible injuries and playing loads of fullbacks in midfield? We won 2-1.
I just hope, after him seeing how it just isn't working, he is finally prepared to make a number of changes to his starting line up. At this point it can't get much worse than it currently is.
Rest Trafford and play Muric, Give Benny a run on the right wing, put JBG where he was most effective, in the number 10 role. Bring Taylor back in. allow Berge to have a free role in the midfield, specifically to run with the ball and make things happen. Play Cullen to support that defence and just give the ball to Berge. etc etc

Ditch 442 and we have hope. Cullen to come in as a third proper cm, allowing Berge to go more forward. Benson to play on the right of a front 3, with Zeki benched.

On what planet is cork match fit? When did he last play 90 min? 18 Months ago? Cullen, a bantam weight against a physical palace midfield? Brownhill is not a captain, but to be honest, I don't know anyone in that team who can provide leadership on the pitch? Our midfield lacks creativity and physical presence. Muric why? Not unknown for teams to do a 'Lazarus'.
13 games to go, 7 points off 17th, 11 points off 16th, and Everton in 17th could get some points reinstated.
So a turn around needs to come soon, perhaps unlikely, but not impossible.
bfc in the PL is David v. Goliath difficult enough without being leveraged too.

Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
He may turn out not to be any better, but I would suggest Muric plays more the sweeper role and would be better at taking the pressure of the back four in that role and better ability to pass a ball.
At this point it wouldn't do Trafford any harm to take him out of the firing line.

Honestly, I don't know, but it would hurt to try and also to take the pressure off Trafford, of that's what you meant.
Let's not forget Muric was Championship Keeper of the season.

Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
I wish that I could be so optimistic but they do owe us a performance after last week's debacle. Not sure they have it in them though, but here's hoping.
Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
In this season horribilis no doubt Wharton will score or create the winner
Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
I’ll buy you a pint if history repeats itself and Trevor Francis comes out in tiny shorts.
4-2 Burnley.

Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
I mentioned that game and Francis in my match preview. It was 2-1 and Ian Moore scored both our goals.
New route for us today. We’ve just parked up at St Albans and now on train direct to Norwood Junction.

I like us playing in yellow.
Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
Because of his sweeping abilities, at this level? Which was the point the poster made, not his keeping abilities
Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
Wrong line up again.
Not that I thought we’d get anything this afternoon, mind.

Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
His sweeping abilities and passing abilities would have been ideal in this game. Palace aren't the quickest up top we could have pushed higher up and he'd have got us on the front foot. We'll end up sat deep now protecting Flappord

The game is one of our dwindling chances of getting a result and somehow giving us a hope of putting back to back games together . As ever , hope springs eternal!

If it's any consolation, I started a "positive" matchday thread against Arsenal last week.
i'm done now. I want my money back (even though I haven't bought a ticket yet this year)

Prospects of Cork being match fit last year looked similar yet he came in and transformed a struggling team.brexit wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 10:35 amOn what planet is cork match fit? Cork and Cullen got on against that Palace midfield and we looked better when they did.
Muric, because he's the best GK i've ever seen woth the ball at his feet and that was key to us playing out from the back effectively last season. Trafford can't do it. Not a slight on Trafford, I can't name any GK that can do what Muric did for us last year. We've missed it badly.
Free kicks and corners were an issue for a lot of last season but Muric and the defence improved in that area. We've regressed so another reason to make the change.
On planet Earth btw. Feel free to disagree though. I'm just sharing an opinion.

Re: Palace away - quietly optimistic...
A couple of chances. If only.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 5:36 pmMy prediction is this:
First 20 mins on top completely dominating the game.
After 22 minutes and 27 seconds Trafford will flap at a cross, completely miss it - the ball will then hit the post and rebound onto the back of Amdouni's head into the path of Jefferey Schlupp who will pass it into the net.
We will then dominate again until half time and we will go into HT the better side and we will all optimistically look forward to the second half.
Palace will then come out and score immediately. We will retreat into our shells until the 70th minute but will then have a resurgence and start to dominate the game.
On the 80th minute VK will take off Fofana and Amdouni and replace them with two cleaning ladies Agnes and Loretta who will narrowly miss a couple of chances.
I find it amusing that the performance was worse than your prediction
