Re: Burnley vs Palace Match thread
This season long VK experiment is absolute madness.
These players are devoid of any self belief or self confidence and yet VK continues to throw them under the buss week in week out with the same pathetic tactical approach.
I don’t understand why he’s being allowed to continue, if anyone here thinks these players or those VK has cast aside are suddenly going to turn and be contenders next season then they are also out of their minds.

The only positive so far is that we are still drawing.
And that's it.

It's been the strangest managerial decision that I've ever witnessed.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 3:50 pmHonestly not sure he's that. I've gone from critical to critical but hoping, to pitying, now I'm just getting angry.
Luigi Cennamo would push him for a place.

I think there may be ,because if there had been another player between the goals and the Palace striker it would have been yellow.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 3:43 pmNo such rule as last man, but it was the right decision.

Back four are doing well, I've seen far more fight in throwing their bodies on the line today than in a lot of games this season.
The ball retention from minute one has been abysmal, if you continually turn the ball over you have to defend brilliantly to get anything.

Re: Burnley vs Palace Match thread
Just how has it all gone this wrong? We have actually managed to do the impossible and get even worse.
The last bits of faith I had in VK disappeared when I saw the line up and sadly they have confirmed my fears. We are not even close and it's only due to Palace being poor in front of goal that we are still level.
He has completely lost the plot. He just cannot adapt. It was fine in the Championship when it clicked and he didn't have to adapt, but here in the Prem he cannot do it.

The Man City home game which was apparently going to be the worst we would be all season was ironically one of our best performances. How can this team keep sinking to new lows.

Nailed on we’ll cling on until injury time, then lose 1-0 to the 50th corner. Probably go in direct as well.
Aside from that we’ve possibly been even worse than last year. The lads are utterly bereft of confidence. Basic motor skills appear a bridge too far.

I really don't think it's having any effect whatsoever on he's confidence, I think he's oblivious to everything around him, vk's telling him it's not he's fault keep doing what your doing and don't worry, your going to be a world beater and future full international. All on vk, really can't blame anyone else but vk for repeatedly playing him.

Brownhill not at fault.
Trafford played a suicide pass to him and there’s no way he could have expected that.
Trafford is not good enough and has cost us this game.
We have been shocking as well.

Sympathy for all those travelling fans today, even for those watching it on TV.
That was as bad as a first hating can recollect fox a long time.
Zero effort/quality going forward, outplayed in every position, hopelessly passing backward and dreadful mistake.
Surely we’ve scraped the bottom of the barrel now 🫣

Palace look a really poor premier league team without their 3 star players, but at the moment they look 10x better than us. They’re just strolling through our midfield like they’re not there. Wingers not working, so need to replace and start packing midfield. See if we can at least stifle them and perhaps nick a late winner.

Re: Burnley vs Palace Match thread
I like Kompany and I’d love him to stay and turn things round, but he’s having an absolute mare. Some of his decisions are mind boggling. We seem to have no plan any more. We have players like Amdouni and Odobert playing who offer absolutely nothing when they don’t have the ball, yet we’re no longer a possession side. We don’t press. We don’t counter attack. We don’t play balls down the channels to gain territory.
It’s a total shambles and with each passing game Kompany is looking more out of depth. I would expect someone of his intelligence and experience in the game to have learned some things throughout the season but I haven’t seen any signs of that.
I’ll feel exactly the same if we scab a 1-0 win today.

Blatant red. Stupid but understandable. Trafford kicking the ball to the opponent criminal. He is fundamentally not equipped for this level and no amount of wishing or hoping otherwise will change it.
Re: Burnley vs Palace Match thread
Absolutely dreadful, unacceptable performance. The team can’t even pass the ball forward with any kind of quality. A team with no confidence at all. I wish they could just relegate us already so we don’t have to suffer for the remaining games, just put us out of our misery and let’s get this squad sorted in the window.

I disagree completely. I think he's told to punt it out as a last resort only. Otherwise he wouldn't be trying to draw attackers in before passing.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 3:53 pmIt's not even just the lad himself - you can see the general hesitancy and nervousness it causes our defence. It's clear he's been instructed to punt it long more often and just now and again play it out short, but he can't even do that correctly. It's totally derailed our tactical style and turned us into an aimless 'playing for percentages' team, which we never were previously, and we've now got the added bonus of game killing howlers on top of that. Utterly criminal Kompany hasn't remedied a critical area of the team earlier and it's absolutely stuffed us.
No this is 100% tactical and comes from the management. Its a poor decision but our management are setting this team up to fail.
The only good thing here is that the stable door has already been bolted, locked, locked and triple locked so it's not a must win game.

Telling you now just playing last year's team without signing anyone would've put on a better show than we've seen in many a game this season.
He's destroyed the harmony the team had despite the PR that comes out saying otherwise and we are an absolute shadow of what we were.

I don’t understand the game plan. We are neither hard to break down and play on the break, or press high and play on the front foot.

It’s not Traffords fault that we have hardly had a touch in their box. The whole team is performing very poorly from front to back.

VK could sit face to face with me and tell me til he's blue in the face how Odobert, JBG, Amdouni and Ramsey deserve to start over Benson or Zaroury and I'll happily tell him he's a liar.
There's no footballing reason that these guys get chance after chance but players from last season don't.

Re: Burnley vs Palace Match thread
What on earth are we trying to do. I dont know what our attacking approach is at all. We are playing a narrow dyche 442 whilst attempting to play from the back, thats not possible in this league, there isnt the options on the ball. Thats a completely tactical failure which worries me, the system makes no sense. I really think kompany has lost his way now, its possible that he goes back to the old style next season and we are fine again so we probably have to risk having to sit through this crap for the rest of the season and hoping it can be fixed in the summer.
And yes whoever said it earlier in the thread, Odobert has been an utter disgrace. Hes been getting lazier each week, theres too many getting away with dropping standards in terms of doing the basics, Trafford as well.

A bright moment is that Cullen has reintroduced passing for the last minutes. I would bring Cork in too.

Re: Burnley vs Palace Match thread
It's clear the team selection just matches the club philosophy. It doesn't matter if we lose points each game because of Trafford, we need to develop him at all costs. Same goes to a bunch of other players. That's why we continue with Amdouni and don't play the likes of Muric and Cork.
Personally I don't agree with it, results should always come first. However I also don't agree when posters have said it harms development. Not at all, if anything players learn more getting their assess handed to them each game. Trafford is young and eventually will learn, just the same as any young goalkeeper.

Re: Burnley vs Palace Match thread
Let’s face it, Kompany could not have made as big a hash of this season if he had tried. I think he’s gone psychologically and is almost deliberately pressing the self destruct button. We’ve been ultra patient with him but he needs to go now for our benefit and his. Difficult to,see how he reconstructs his brand from this position. There is no defence for this car crash…literally
