Today's Football
Today's Football
Wolves just gone 1 up, Blades showing some fight though.
Well two of their players just had a go at each other anyway.
Ref was waiting to see if any red cards should be given.

Re: Today's Football
Sheff Utd look way stronger than us right now. They are improving under Wilder unlike us under VK Very disappointing from Wolves so far
Re: Today's Football
Wolves 1-0. Got away with one very poor second half.

The Chelsea/Liverpool final is still goalless, but some cracking action. Liverpool keeper just pulled off a great save.

Are they still below us?

The referee in the Cup final is shocking. Caicedo on 4 fouls and no sight of a yellow card.

Re: Today's Football
Whether their performances are any better than ours is a mute point because they are absolutely in the same position we are. They're going down without a shadow of a doubt and just like us they've a manager who has proven he knows the championship and the way out of it. Daft to pot him now when the fat lady is already singing on the current season and simply be pragmatic and start planning for next.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 3:51 pmCan’t see Wilder lasting at Sheffield United. Wilder since returning will have a better record than VK in a like for like comparison. The only reason they are on the same points tally as us is because heckingbottom stayed too long & wilder didn't go there sooner

Re: Today's Football
Thought it was a diabolical decision originally. But having seen it back from another angle, Endo’s only intention is to block his opponent, which is cheating, so to do so whilst stood in an offside position I think is expecting the rules to bend a little too much in your favour.

Re: Today's Football
That is just a ridiculous offside. If the rules say that’s offside quite simply the rule isn’t fit for purpose.
Same with Assignon yesterday, the offside player has had no impact on the outcome so should NOT be ruled offside.

Shambolic refereeing performance in the final. May as well just give the trophy to Chelsea

So basically if a defender wants to go somewhere you better step asideRileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 4:31 pmThought it was a diabolical decision originally. Watford are the last club to ask on the ability of a manager.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 4:23 pmBoro and Watford fans may have a different answer if you ask them about Wilder’s ability to get out of the Championship
They potted Rob Edwards believing he wouldn’t be able to get them out of the Championship.

This is what gets me, if an attacking player is running towards a defender and that defender doesn’t move and the attacker runs into him 9/10 a fouls is given
What’s the defender supposed to do? Evaporate?

Re: Today's Football
No, basically if you’re going to obviously block a defender from being able to challenge for the ball then make sure you’re stood in an onside position and the officials will more than likely let you get away with it.
The law states a player is interfering if they are ‘making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball’ - which I think is the case here - unless it can be proven with absolute certainty that the defender wouldn’t have been able to play the ball. Assignon was very clearly offside yesterday by the same principle.

It's not just results the performances generally speaking have been better so you are looking at 2 positives compared to our 2 negatives.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 4:37 pmAs you’d expect - new guy in and we’ve been diabolical. Re: Today's Football
Funny how the national anthem booing lot had their bubble burst by VAR, but let’s be fair it was a shocker.
These days if there is a way to disallow a goal VAR will find it, makes a mockery of celebrating and enjoying the moment. Killing the game and takes away far more joy than the justice it can benefit.
p.s. blocking is allowed of course, we are all entitled to our space on the pitch, but offside blocking is ‘technically’ not nor is a deliberate movement to foul (Adebayo on Trafford). So the Liverpool goal was technically offside but by God it kills the game if the lino or ref doesn’t give it originally.

Yeah definitely. VAR is bonk and has to some extent ruined the game. I’m just not going to agree that a player cheating whilst in an offside position shouldn’t be penalised for it.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 4:59 pmit's not the fact of this decision, it's that next week the same officials will make a different decision for a similar situation.
