Re: Chris Nicholll RIP
Chris went on to be a great player for Aston Villa, Southampton and Northern Ireland. Pity he didn't stay on a bit longer at Burnley.

I didn’t know he’d played for us.
Great for Villa, and a true NornIron stalwart. A proper old-school central defender.
RIP, Chris.

RIP We signed Chris as a youth from Wilton Albion. From memory he was a member of the team that won a youth tournament in Germany.
Re: Chris Nicholll RIP
Bad weekend for seventies/eighties football.
Chris Nicholl took no prisoners but could take it back. A warrior.

Goalkeeper Peter Mellor also signed from Witton Albion at the same time I think.

RIP Chris. Finished with a super career behind him. Including captaining Aston Villa to the League cup against an Everton side with Dobo in it.

Re: Chris Nicholll RIP
Wasn't with us long before he was released. I was told once that it was due to his eyesight which wasn't good enough. He dropped into non-league football and then moved back into the league with Halifax once he was able to wear contact lenses. Went on to have a terrific career.
Sad news today to hear of his passing.

What I brilliant photo that is of players who didn’t know how great their careers would be,can’t quite recognise the keeper ,was it Paul Jones?Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 8:29 pmRIP Chris. Re: Chris Nicholll RIP
I remember him being interviewed by Alan Shearer in the documentary he was doing about the connection between dementia and the constant heading of footballs.
It was really sad that Nicholl sounded like a punch drunk boxer, but he said that he didn't regret a thing in his career.

Repetition.
Re: Chris Nicholll RIP
Also famous for scoring all 4 goals for Villa in a 2-2 draw with Leicester.
Re: Chris Nicholll RIP
I see Sammy Todd, Dave Merrington, Colin Blant and Chris Nichol. How many centre backs did we need?
Actually wasn't Blant a centre forward then and perhaps Todd a full back?

Did justice to his talent, on and off the pitch.

I don’t remember him at Burnley
Re: Chris Nicholll RIP
And the poor man may also have not remembered. 77 years of age and died from amongst other things dementia. Shocking the stats on this. Expect only reason there was less dementia in earlier generations of footballers was the poorer average life expectancy in those days. 1945-64, 2020 81years
