Crucial 7 days at Ewood ? ....

Post by Clarets4me » Sun Mar 03, 2024 1:17 am

Following their defeat at Swansea, t' Rovers stand one point above the relegation places, after 2 wins in their last 17 League games. Their new manager, John Eustace, has garnered 3 points from the last 15 available, but they now have two successive home games against Millwall on Tuesday, and Plymouth on Saturday ... Millwall lie one place below Rovers, on goals scored, but have won their last two games under their newly appointed Manager and returning " Favourite Son ", Neil Harris. Plymouth have one more point than Rovers but aren't playing well ...

Following these games, Rover's run in is ...

Middlesbrough ( A )
Ipswich ( H )
Sunderland ( A )
Southampton ( H )
Bristol City ( A )
Leeds ( A )
Sheff. Wed. ( H )
Coventry ( H )
Leicester ( A )

Don't get me wrong, I reckon we're down already ... but that's a shocker of a run in ! I reckon our " friends from Ewood " need at least 4 points from these two games to have a chance of staying up ...

No stats but to my mind they have a good record in the NE. Don’t be surprised if they pick up points at Boro & S’land, two teams equally as out of form as the fiddlers.

On average over the last 10 seasons you need around 44-46 points to stay up, or 1 point per game. They already have 39 points with 11 games left. So their run-in would have to be catastrophic, like win only 1 of their last 11. Same points per game principle applies to us too, meaning we need to win 7, maybe 8 of our last 12 matches, which clearly isn't happening. Therefore highly likely we'll meet them again next season in the championship.

I think we are clutching at straws to find some enjoyment if we are focusing on them getting relegated whilst we stink out the premier league and look likely to finish rock bottom

Everything tells you to concentrate on our own problems and increasingly miserable season. But it requires real discipline not to find this a bit funny.

I would love it, purely because I don’t want to play them next season.

Saying that, the championship is brilliant for playing proper NW clubs

Going off their performance against Newcastle on Tuesday night, firstly I'd be surprised if they don't pick up the required points and secondly I wouldn't like to play them at the moment!

Just hope that Leicester need something from their last game (at home to R*vers)
and that they aren't already promoted and OTB.

The times when you get praised for games that you didn't win, are times when you're on a downward spiral.

League one would be better for Rovers, they could run their team off their academy and avoid getting massacred by the Mighty Clarets.

I disagree. I don’t think we are clutching at straws at all. We know we are gone…. That lot going as well makes the landing a little softer. There will be some who don’t see their demise like that, and that’s fair enough. Personally, I’ll take it.

I think what's more crucial for bstards is the Indian cash abruptly stopping.

You are of course correct, but Sheffield Wednesday are getting some form, and Rotherham have about as much chance of survival as we do ...
There are 8 teams between 16th and 23rd in the table, separated by 5 points ( 35 - 40 points ) ...

Obafemi hat trick would be hilarious or even scoring the winner

Where's Staying Down Forever on this thread?

Only seems to pop up on threads slagging our team off. :?:

We have nothing else to amuse ourselves with this season now, so this may well be the silver lining for us in a terrible year of football. That is a rancid set of fixtures and the really important thing was Eustace not giving them a bounce - if anything they’ve seemingly got worse.

Getting up for a one off cup game against a PL team (which they still lost) is somewhat different to the slog of the Championship. Certainly doesn’t look like they’re showing the same fight and application under Eustace in the league.

I think they probably only need three wins and I can't see them not getting that even with a tricky fixture list. That said there's probably 7 or 8 clubs saying the same. Reminds me of that first season under Dyche where about 10 teams could still go down going into the final few games- think we got 7 points from the last 9 and ended up in mid-table. If memory serves Peterborough went down with 50-odd points so if something similar does happen they might need a bit more in the run-in.

They sold their best player. JDT was right to jump ship.

I thought the Newcastle performance would’ve been a springboard for them.

Laughing at Rovers seems our only way to relieve our pain ,it’s like the doc saying the bad news is we’re going to amputate your leg but the good news is that we’ve managed to sell one of your shoes.
